If you are a parent and need to talk to your child's teacher, keep in mind the above statements (especially the last one). Believe what the teacher tells you. They have been around and seen and heard more than you can imagine. It is very rare that a teacher is a wack job. My son had one in the fourth grade. I'm getting depressed over the shutting down of some FanFic sites. Ironically, I could see their demise coming, just not quite so soon. I was going to spend a little time this summer copying stories into files so I could enjoy them again after the sites were shut down. They just beat me to it.
