Somewhere outside of New York

They left a day or so earlier to begin the search for Bruce Banner. A tracker that resembles a high-tech Geiger counter helps track Gamma waves, something Reed Richards supplied in the hunt. Betty doesn't have the best idea of where she will find her husband, but she has a good guess ( Read more... )

Ben is always willing to help if for no other reason than he'd never hear the end of it from 'licia... someone in distress. And well, Betty knows what it's like to have to put up with men who are sometimes monsters, so it's an even more personal sort of thing.

"No problem, Betty. It'll probably be a walk in the park. We'll go find him, he'll be drinking champagne and you'll yell at him for it. Simple as pie."

"I wish it was that easy, Ben," Betty sighs with a little smile. "More like we'll find him under Abomination's control and have a big fight on our hands."

"Aw, nuts. You know that's just crazy talk. Even if he is, we'll take care of it. Don't you worry too much."

Ben is worried a bit - but lucky that his face isn't that great at showing any expression.

"So, where are we heading?"

"Out west somewhere. I wish I had better specifics than that." She turns to look more keenly at her companion, adding, "I'm glad you said yes. It's good to have someone like you keeping an eye out for trouble."

No.

He's been tracking her. It is a necessity.

This is not how she was supposed to react.

His fists clench. It will take them time to find his location... but it is not time he wants to give them.

Time to change the game.

"I don't see anything," Betty is saying to Ben, frowning at the instruments. "This is so much like a needle in a haystack search...I hope I'm reading this right. Try north, Ben?"

".. Even for a big green guy, Bruce is hard ta find when he's not makin' himself known."

Grumbling under his breath about people playing hard-to-get, he arcs the ship northwards, towards the plains of Oklahoma and then towards Kansas.

Just.. let's bet he's not in Smallville, right?

Smallville? Betty smiles at her companion before saying softly, "This is a lot of effort for someone who doesn't get along well with my husband when he's angry. I don't know how I'm going to repay you."

Crossing the state line brings a strange vision.

Suddenly streaking past the front of the ship.

A giant green bird-creature.

One that might seem eerily familiar to the navigator.

What the....

Betty's jaw drops as she stares at the creature, a chill running up her spine. "No," is all the brunette breathes.

"Wuh-Whoa!"

Ben twists the vehicle in a very intent fashion, avoiding the streaking-by birdie.. thing.

"The hell was that, Betty? I didn't get a good look." As he talks, he's already checking the radar, seeing if it'll pick up something that small. At least he might get a little more warning next time...

"It...." Betty puts a hand over her mouth. "It looked like the figure of the Harpy," she explains unsteadily. "That can't be."
