Somewhere outside of New York

They left a day or so earlier to begin the search for Bruce Banner. A tracker that resembles a high-tech Geiger counter helps track Gamma waves, something Reed Richards supplied in the hunt. Betty doesn't have the best idea of where she will find her husband, but she has a good guess ( Read more... )

Ben is always willing to help if for no other reason than he'd never hear the end of it from 'licia... someone in distress. And well, Betty knows what it's like to have to put up with men who are sometimes monsters, so it's an even more personal sort of thing.

"No problem, Betty. It'll probably be a walk in the park. We'll go find him, he'll be drinking champagne and you'll yell at him for it. Simple as pie."

"I wish it was that easy, Ben," Betty sighs with a little smile. "More like we'll find him under Abomination's control and have a big fight on our hands."

"Aw, nuts. You know that's just crazy talk. Even if he is, we'll take care of it. Don't you worry too much."

Ben is worried a bit - but lucky that his face isn't that great at showing any expression.

"So, where are we heading?"

"Out west somewhere. I wish I had better specifics than that." She turns to look more keenly at her companion, adding, "I'm glad you said yes. It's good to have someone like you keeping an eye out for trouble."

"It ain't no problem, Betty. How many places can you hide someone like Bruce, after all, and the big green mug of the Abomination? If we get close, will that device of yours go off?"

Probably somewhere wide open and secluded. So, only a large, large chunk of several states to look in. Piece of cake.

"And really, if there's one thing I'm good at, it's keeping an eye out for things going bad. I'm kinda old hat at it by now."

Betty chuckles a bit as she pokes at the device Reed provided. "That's the idea, Ben. I wouldn't even be surprised if Bruce worked with Dr. Richards on developing this thing for an emergency just like this." As she speaks, however, her voice softens, her expression wistful. "I miss him so much. I could shoot myself for buying into that line my father fed me."

"Eh, kids want to believe their folks. Ya spend yer life believin' in them. We'll bet Bruce back, and then ya can ask him, alright?"

Ben is fairly conversant with this thought - ol Mama Grimm was good as her word, though, so it might be a bit different for him than for Betty. He adjusts the flight course to start taking them in a slow loop over the west coast, high enough so that they won't rattle windows or shatter them, but low enough that the device _should_ tweak if it catches Brucie-boy.

"I hope so, Ben, I really do." Betty places a hand on his orange arm before looking outside and down. "Where are we?"

"Don't worry about it. It'll be alright."

Gruffly, Ben moves to look at the instrument panel, nudging a switch to generate an in-flight topographical map. Reed, you come up with the coolest things.

"Arizona, looks like. Your device goin' off yet?"

She glances at the controls and shakes her head, sadness reflecting in her expressive gaze. "Nothing yet. I had hopes for the southwest, too. Maybe we should try Texas or somewhere in the midwest. Large, remote spaces, I bet."

"Well, nuts."

Ben puts the vehicle into a slow turn, before pushing the engines up to high again. Towards Texas, this time - wide open spaces, low places where the.. er, yeah.

"Can't get much more remote than there, unless he isn't keeping him in the States."
