Somewhere outside of New York

They left a day or so earlier to begin the search for Bruce Banner. A tracker that resembles a high-tech Geiger counter helps track Gamma waves, something Reed Richards supplied in the hunt. Betty doesn't have the best idea of where she will find her husband, but she has a good guess ( Read more... )

Crossing the state line brings a strange vision.

Suddenly streaking past the front of the ship.

A giant green bird-creature.

One that might seem eerily familiar to the navigator.

What the....

Betty's jaw drops as she stares at the creature, a chill running up her spine. "No," is all the brunette breathes.

"Wuh-Whoa!"

Ben twists the vehicle in a very intent fashion, avoiding the streaking-by birdie.. thing.

"The hell was that, Betty? I didn't get a good look." As he talks, he's already checking the radar, seeing if it'll pick up something that small. At least he might get a little more warning next time...

"It...." Betty puts a hand over her mouth. "It looked like the figure of the Harpy," she explains unsteadily. "That can't be."

"... That's bad, right?"

Thing's jokes fall flat, but the aircar keeps its spiraling grace, still trying to home in on the location of Betty's boyfriend, the zig-zagging path not only to try and avoid new attacks, but also to let him triangulate on the approximate location.

"This thing has guns on it. Somewhere. She comes close again, I'll take some pot-shots." Unless Reed's 'revamped' the damn thing again. He does that like, every other week.

"It's really bad, yes." Betty looks confused and a bit panicked as she watches for the return of the green flare across the sky. "What worries me, Ben, is if she's here, right here right now - somehow - then someone knows we're coming and was expecting us. Or someone to look for Bruce. We're close. But it's not going to be smooth."

Then she takes a deep breath, Reed's tracker on her knee, and adds, "I'll find the controls to the guns. If something gets in our way...it won't be there long."

She wants her husband back now, damn it.

"Check in the left side-car. That's where the hothead sits. If anyone wanted to be able to shoot things like a video game, it's Johnny."

Ben levels out the car to make transitioning seats easier, and then muses, hopefully not too loud.

".. Nuts. So this is gonna be rougher than we thought. Nuttin's ever easy, is it? Can't bring candy and cake and say 'Hi, came to pick up a giant green guy'."

Betty shifts as best she can to the side car as directed, looking for the controls to the weapons system and keeping an eye on the gamma radiation tracer for signs of Bruce.

The thing's still bleeping softly. A good sign.

"No, I'm afraid it won't be that easy, Ben. But we're going to get him if I have to take down Abomination and Harpy myself." And she MEANS it.

"Aw, you'll let me get a few licks in too, right?"

Ben starts the vehicle on a dive, to take it closer to the ground. At that point, they should be able to keep the Harpy from getting under the 'car, and maybe get a better angle on her if she swings around again.
