Somewhere outside of New York

They left a day or so earlier to begin the search for Bruce Banner. A tracker that resembles a high-tech Geiger counter helps track Gamma waves, something Reed Richards supplied in the hunt. Betty doesn't have the best idea of where she will find her husband, but she has a good guess ( Read more... )

No.

He's been tracking her. It is a necessity.

This is not how she was supposed to react.

His fists clench. It will take them time to find his location... but it is not time he wants to give them.

Time to change the game.

"I don't see anything," Betty is saying to Ben, frowning at the instruments. "This is so much like a needle in a haystack search...I hope I'm reading this right. Try north, Ben?"

".. Even for a big green guy, Bruce is hard ta find when he's not makin' himself known."

Grumbling under his breath about people playing hard-to-get, he arcs the ship northwards, towards the plains of Oklahoma and then towards Kansas.

Just.. let's bet he's not in Smallville, right?

Smallville? Betty smiles at her companion before saying softly, "This is a lot of effort for someone who doesn't get along well with my husband when he's angry. I don't know how I'm going to repay you."

"Well.."

Ben sucks in a breath between rocky lips, looking out and pretty much anywhere _but_ at Betty.

"Not a lotta people do, I bet. Hard ta get along with a 'monster', ya know? I figure he deserves a break , if any of us do. Don't worry about repayin' or nothing. I'm sure he'd do tha same fer me."

"He would," says Betty with utter faith in her husband...and then she asks quite gently, "It's hard to get along with real monsters, Ben. Men like you and Bruce...you're not monsters. Not with the kind of hearts you have. The real monsters are men like Abomination and Doom who hurt people deliberately, for whatever reasons they can devise. Sometimes for no reason."

She places her hand on Ben's arm again before adding, "I've lived with Bruce a long time. I don't know what it's like living the way you two do, but I know you're not monsters. I know a whole lot of people who agree."

Ben chuckles, just a bit, and reaches over to very, very carefully pat Betty's hand. He's quite used to how to do it - after all, living in a world of far-too frail people and easily broken things makes any big man cautious.

"Yeah. I'm pretty sure those two idiots aren't gettin' coffee cake from Captain America this year." he jokes, and then offers a real smile as he noses the vehicle a bit faster, starting to cover more ground, towards the Dakotas.

"No, I don't...wait, what was that?" Betty looks at the little device she carries and says, "There was a blip! I think something blipped. West? Try that way?"

"All right!" Ben's frustration with the search wasn't beginning to show, really! Not that he would admit, at least. He yanks the stick and the vehicle takes a long looping turn towards the West, following the signal that Bett's device gives.

But the bleep doesn't return for minutes, no matter how tightly the brunette grips the device.

But then, just when she is considering shaking Reed's invention until it DOES bleep...

There's a blip. Definitely a blip. "Montana," she declares with excitement in her voice, in her features. "He's somewhere there."
