I’ve been eyeing all sorts of fanfic memes as of late, though I’ve been shamefully bereft of participating in any. Still, better late than never and this one is ganked from the marvelous Threewalls, as are 99.9% of my ideas nowadays. ;)

Thar be lots of words written about fic heading yer way. )

And yes, I'd love to catch you on AIM someday! Thanks for the SN! I'm marringthemoment there, btw. ;)
Lymsleia Falenas
A. I actually very much enjoy Lymseleia-- she manages to be both the damsel-that's-not-so-in-distress, the plucky-young-girl-that-plausibly-fights-back and the young-political-genius, all of which are archetypes that ping me but good. (The first two describe Penelo pretty well and the last one is so Larsa down to a tee. So of course I dig this chick. ;) In any case, I've always enjoyed characters who are doing the best they possibly can in horrible situations beyond their control and I very much enjoy the way Lymselia fights for her kingdom and her selfhood while being grinded under Gizel Godwin's thumb. So much kudos to her for that ( ... )

Can't wait to talk to you on there.
Your Lym thing makes me squee. Especially the ficlet. Can't wait to see how that turns out. ^^

I always did wonder about the "goner" in your name. (I don't know if I mentioned it to you, but the first time I saw a link to your work, there was a little disjoint between the hilarity of the fic and the username. XD)

Reks
A. He's just so damn young and cute, isn't he, and so filled with the fire of his youth (as Maito Gai might put it!) And he seems very devoted to Vaan, who's devoted to him in turn. If I were, say, 14 or so while he was around, I would soooooo have crushed on him. Him and his big, teary eyes are so adorable, yes? ;)
B. But boy does he seem to have a temper on him, as well as Vaan's possibly genetic streak of somewhat ethical stupidity. (What kind of sane man enlists just when the tide is turning against your nation?!)
C. Reks/Penelo, of course! I envision it as being very much like Larsa/Penelo of Knots... only in this case, of course, Penelo's the young, smitten one who's madly in love with an older partner who's mostly embarrassed by her affection. It's cute and tragic by almost equal measure ( ... )

For some reason this comment made me think of Reks as a male Mulan. The whole "entering war with little chance of victory" and "final rush to defend the king/emperor" thing.
Except I remember that Mulan joined for different reasons. And, well, she didn't bite the dirt and Reks did. (Oh, Reks, you pretty little fool. You would've lived if you were in a Disney movie!)
Awwwww. He didn't really love her? :( Well, I guess maybe he was thinking she was too young to take seriously...and now Larsa's stuck in that position. XD I think you mentioned that as being an influence on how Penelo treats Larsa?

And Maito Gai's fashion sense might well be embraced in Dalmasca, as would his Springtime of Youth! AT least, Vaan might dig it, even if Penelo is holding in tears of silent laughter (and possibly fending off the amours of Rock Lee) at the same time.
And no... Reks really didn't love her. And even if he lived, he'd have eventually broken up with her sooner or later. He liked her plenty and he certainly... enjoyed her company, even if he felt guilty about it. But loved her? Enough to spend the rest of his life with her?
He never felt that much about her and that's part of the reason why Penelo can be an emotional mess now.

And the meme looks good. I might have to take it. XD

Luna Lovegood
A. Oh my god, what isn't there to love and adore and cherish about her? But what I love about her is her bold-faced truthfulness that somehow seems to extend and go beyond any attempts at deception. She's truly awesome in the way she blasts through people's pretensions.
B. But it's very possible to have a mind so open that your brains slide right out of it and, thanks to her unquestioning faith in her father, Luna all too often seems on the verge of that. But I have faith she'll grow up and be at least a little more cynical when she grows up.
C. Harry/Luna, of course! I've always seen Harry/Ginny as a toxic combinations-- they just bring out the worst in the bully in each other-- but Harry and Luna are sweet and intriguing with each other. I still remember their last scene together in book 5, where she reassures him that just because someone he loves is dead, that doesn't mean they've gone away. I just wish Rowling had developed that friendship more ( ... )

Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca
A. She's the most fucking entertaining FFXII female protagonist I've ever known. I just love how she's not a wilting flower, how (more often than not) she's a crazy, castrating, half-mad vigilante who's cheerfully willing to castrate anyone who gets in her path. People have complained about her being called "the princess of PMS," among less flattering sobriquets, before-- but damn it, I love how fucking insane she comes off throughout most of the game. Ashe/Madness is my favorite OTP of all!
B. That said, she really does need to learn more about why assumptions can make an ass out of you and me. And she never did apologize for slapping Basch when he totally didn't deserve it, did she? She's an awesome character but if I ever had to serve under her in real life, I'd run screaming ( ... )

As for the challenges, I don't suppose there are anymore popular ones out there. I mean, there is, but nothing as challenging, and most of it are drabbles anyway. Or maybe... you might want to try out the ever popular 1sentence? I don't think anyone has claimed Larsa/Penelo or Vayne/Penelo for that one yet (I think?) :3 Hmm...

And since I've already done Ashe (see above), Basch it is. XD
Basch
A. What is there not to love about Basch? No, seriously, what is there not to love? He's handsome, brave, loyal, heroic, steadfast, kind, gentle and has extraordinarily great hair that will likely age well. If you looked up 'dreamy' in the dictionary, you'd see his picture smiling quizzically at you. He's the kind of man all our mamas would want us to marry when we grow old enough.
B. Well, he does have that pesky problem about accepting responsibility and blame for too many things, which really serves to cheapen the things he is guilty of. But other than that... damn, Basch really is rather Gary Stuish, isn't he, right down to the tragic past? But luckily, it's sort of impossible to hate him even for his perfection, no ( ... )
