It is no secret that I love Yuugi Mutou. I love Atem too, and Jounouchi, and Mai, and... a lot of other people. But YUUGI MUTOU. No matter what happens, he always makes his way back to #1 in my heart
( Read more... )
I am a firm believer in Yugi as a top from the bottom (of course, I haven't been into Puzzleshipping in a long long time due to issues I've had with Atem since I finally got around to reading Battle City but that's just me and pretty much why I call myself "the worst Puzzleshipper ever" XD ...either way, this is the sort of thing that could figure into any of his relationships anyway)
But the belief out there that he's meek and childish and eternally submissive just because he's short and kind of baby-faced is one of those things that annoys me to no end. He is a teenage boy, of course he's interested in sex. Gah. I'm rambling. This is awesome.
I think that's fandom projecting, honestly. He's always been written as weak, timid and shy to the point of paranoia, and shy about sex. He's mirroring the writer in that respect. Not all writers of course, but a significant portion.
The fact that Yuugi's pretty meek at the beginning of the series and has zero self-confidence doesn't help the fandom perception any either... But the whole, real point of Yugioh as a series is Yuugi's slowly developing sense of strength. It'd be nice if... somebody actually acknowledged that Yuugi has a spine every now and again. I mean, come on, HE STOOD UP FOR FRIGGN JOUNOUCHI RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SERIES. That takes guts, boy. Real guts, when you're that short.
Yuugi was always the strongest when he had to be strong for other people... But that type of strength just gets filed under the "uke-chan" mentality, and it makes me cry and sob at night for Yuugi's eternally misunderstood masculinity.
btw. Now I'm curious. What problems did you have with Atem in Battle City?
Well, truthfully, my biggest issue with Atem is the fact that in the anime he booted Yugi out of the protagonist slot in his own show. It kind of happened in the manga too and it did mostly start around Battle City. But my biggest problem has always been the whole big "forever" speech right after the DDM arc and then immediately after Atem decides, "well, shit, I'm gonna go hunt up these god cards and my memories." Which is his right, but the fact that he doesn't discuss this with Yugi at all until much, much later just drove me up the wall and made me call him a jerk a lot.
(actually, thinking about it now it bothers me a lot less than it did at the time. Back then I was just so irritated I wanted to punch Atem in the face, now I just feel like yelling at them the way I do at Pearson and Bolger: "BOYS WHY ARE YOU SO STUPID WHY ARE YOU NOT DISCUSSING IMPORTANT THINGS WITH EACH OTHER UUUGH! STOP BEING STUPID!" XD)
My fanon is that Yuugi... At first! Suffers from control issues of the coming-too-soon kind. But Yami/Atem would work with that, teaching him how to control himself. But once Yuugi learns, he is definitely a quick study. Y/A would teach him exactly what he likes (he's a bottom in my head) or ride that boy senseless.
...Control issues... *bites lip to keep from laughing out loud* OKAY! Head canon adopted! XD That's just... hilariously cute and brilliant. hahaha
You write Yami as a bottom?! *_* Excuse me, my brain leaked out of my ears from joy. In my mind they switch a lot, but I'll be the first one to say that THE FANDOM NEEDS MORE YAMI BOTTOMING TO YUUGI. Seriously. The mental images that all just conjured are just... lkadsjfkljfdsalkjdfslkjdfs
Yami riding Yuugi senseless may be a plot-point in my as-of-yet percolating smut fic... So it's funny you should mention that. XD;
btw. Okay! Fandom question! Is it Yami or Atem? I can't figure out what to call the bugger, now that he has an actual name and a fandom/dub name everyone's already used to. D:

In my opinion, Yami Yuugi (the spirit) and Atem are two completely different people, at least from the anime perspective. Yami Yuugi is a slightly twisted, and easily succumbs to his darker emotions and powers. Compare that to Atem, who is a martyr and his wish is for there to be peace and equality. The two are NOTHING alike. lediz explores this issue really well in her story called "Ankh." (And now I want to read it...)
But, of course, you can look at it this way: Yami Yuugi is pre-finding-out-his-name and Atem is post-finding-out-his-name. :D
Yami is so a bottom. Yuugi is entire world. He's so the person to go, "MY BODY IS READY. TAKE ME NOW."
Yami it is then! XD; Sorry, I've just been out of the loop for a while, and I STILL haven't figured out which name fandom generally uses for what. haha But that makes sense. And now it is time to read fic! *cough* *goes to stalk mentioned fic
( ... )
And considering how much they like games, don't you think they'd, you know, play around a little? ;)
...this needs to happen in a fic somewhere RIGHT NOW. lol You know, I keep saying it... Strip Duel Monsters. I'm sure it exists in canon somewhere. XD;
I bet they have some fantastic roleplays and kinky stuff and 'it's not technically a sex game but that's what it usually ends up as'.
Yugioh needs a kink meme so that I can request that now. haha I agree though, fandom needs more writers that let Yuugi top. It'd be amazing. *_* Also, pharaoh-boy isn't so tough and manly that he can't be bottom ever either. He's always bottom when people pair him with Kaiba. And Yuugi's way more boyish than Yami, if you really think about it. haha At least Yuugi doesn't sit with his legs crossed.
It occurs to me now just how hilarious Yuugi/Yami are as a couple. XD; They both toe the masculine/feminine line. Just in REALLY different ways.
I don't even know where they are/that they exist. XD But not being able to comment anonymously kinda sucks. haha Nobody's username should to be attached to a kink meme unless they want it to be.
Yami can wear platforms. Or stilts.
Yami offering his own ass up first so that if something goes wrong, Yuugi's not the one who gets hurt?
You know, that's what I always figured would happen. Yami's just so damn... lovingly protective towards Yuugi. He'd be all "No, wait aibou. Let me do this part." And then he'd show Yuugi the best thirty seconds of his life. XD hahaha
Uuuunf. Sight the King. Yeeees. I blame that fic for half the stuff I spouted up there. It changed my life. No really. That girl writes like... my ideal puzzleshipping dynamic. I learned a lot from her. It's a damn tragedy she never finished the OTHER Yugioh epic she was supposed to be writing. T__T My woe is never-ending.
They aaare x3 I almost want to say that Yuugi is more feminine inside and Yami is more feminine outside but I feel that's vaguely off. /shrugs/It's

This topic is dear to my heart, so the more the merrier! XD (Also, I'm totally cool with people randomly commenting on anything on my journal. That's what it's here for. haha) Yuugi really does have the strength to stand up to Atem and kick ass when it's required. That's how he kept Atem from pushing Kaiba off a cliff in Duelist Kingdom. Yuugi doesn't put up with Atem doing crap in his body that he doesn't approve of. And I like that. Of course my motto is "variety all around" so no matter who ends up where and how, it's all good. XD I just want them to switch it up every now and again. haha
Your AU-land theory sounds nice. *_* It'd also be interesting from a historical point of view, since in Egypt the man who 'receives' is the sinning party. So long as a guy's on top, it doesn't matter who or what he does it with. So for the pharaoh to go bottom... MAN he'd be devoted. (Which Yami also totally is to Yuugi anyway... >__>)
I think Yuugi is better at standing up for other people than for himself.You hit the nail right on the head! Yuugi is absolutely, badassedly amazing when he has to protect others. He has trouble defending himself, but he will do anything to save another person. I love that about him so much. I'm happy you said it. XD
