guess I should make a list of the fics I made for this YamaShi family:
(they are stand-alone oneshot but are related to each other.)
These would be the 'canon':
01
Yamada's Princess02
Yamada's Queen03
Yamada's Angel04
One Night05
YamaJima if we arrange them chronologically: Yamada's Queen, Yamada's Princess, Yamada's Interview,
YamaJima, One Night, Yamada's Angel. but I think it's best to read them in the order of my writing.
i'm saying i think it would be better if you read this 5 before reading this new fic. :3
and these are with alternative endings:
01
Daddy's Little Girl02

"There." Ryosuke said as he finished arranging his son's tie.
Aki smiled. "Thanks." He said, ever the quiet one.
They were currently at their home. It was already half past four and Ryosuke with his son, Aki and daughter, Yumi was now dressed and ready for the event tonight.
Tonight was the premier of Aki's first ever movie. Not his first staring role; he had a few dramas before. But this was his first movie, and his first role with a love interest. It was an adaptation of a book entitled, "Gray."
Just then their telephone rang. Ryosuke excused himself and went to his living room. He answered his phone and heard his wife's voice.
"Mirai-chan."
"Ryosuke. We've just finished. We're on our way home." She said. Mirai and their second son, Yuta had a drama together this season.
"Hai, me and the kids are all set now. We'll just wait for you."
"Okay." Mirai said. "We'll be there in about thirty minutes. Yuta's clothes are ready, ne?"
"Yes. Take your time, it's still early. Be careful, ne."
"We will." She said. "Then, we'll see you soon."
"Ja." Ryosuke said and hung up.
"Will they be here soon?" A girl's voice asked from Ryosuke's back
"Hai, in a while." He said as he turned around to face her.
"Wow." He said as he saw his daughter. Yumiko was wearing an elegant baby blue cocktail dress, but partnered with white boots so it looked more casual. Her hair was up in pigtails.
"My princess is growing up too fast." Ryosuke complained.
Yumiko giggled.
"I wanna ask you something." She said, as she took his hand and pulled him to the sofa. As they go, Aki entered the living room, looking at his father and sister in mild amusement.
"What is it?" Ryosuke asked as he notice Aki sat across from them.
"Daddy, why do you love mommy?" Yumi asked.
Ryosuke blinked, not expecting that question. But he guess it was normal, he knew it was because of Aki's new movie that Yumi was curious about this.
He glanced at his son. Aki was looking at him, waiting as well.
He sighed in resignation and then shrugged. "It's because she can tolerate my obsession with strawberries." He said.
Now it was time for his children to blink.
"Are you serious?" Yumi asked. Aki raised his eyebrows at his father.
"What do you think?" Ryosuke asked in a playful tone.
Yumi pouted. "Daddy. answer seriously!" She complained.
Ryosuke laughed. "Well, I don't really know how to answer your question."
"Then tell me when you realize you love mommy." Yumi said, unperturbed.
"Hmm... that's a hard question as well." Ryosuke said and then looked at his son. "Aki, what time is it?"
"Don't change the topic! When was it?" Yumi said, grabbing her dad's arm.
Ryosuke sighed. "You know how embarrassing it is to talk about this?" He told Yumiko, looking away. "Let alone to my children." He muttered.
"Just answer!" Yumi pushed, looking pleased at torturing her father.
Ryosuke sighed once more and then looked at his children's expectant faces.
"Well," He started, deciding to just get it over with. "truth be told, I've had a crush on your mom ever since we first met. But... I think I fell in love with her when we were in high school."
"That's vague." Yumi complained.
"Well, you can't really know right? That's love, it grows gradually." Ryosuke said.
"You knew you love me the first time we met." Yumi said, pursing her lips playfully.
Ryosuke laughed. "Of course I do, but that's different. You're my daughter. You're born from my and your mom's love so it's already a given." He said.
"I guess." She allowed, smiling.
Ryosuke looked at his daughter, pausing for a while. And then he said, "Wanna know a secret?"
Both Aki and Yumi perked up at this.
"Between me and your mom, I'm the first to fall in love." He said in a stage-whisper.
Yumi's eyes brighten at this, looking very excited. "How do you know?" She asked excitedly.
"That's a secret you'll find out." Ryosuke said, smirking.
"Unfair!" Yumi exclaimed, pouting.
Ryosuke ignored this and shrugged. "That's life."
Yumi continued pouting for a while more but Ryosuke didn't budge.
"Well, fine, let's go to my next question." She then said.
"There's more?" Ryosuke said, groaning.
"Of course." Yumi said cheekily. "How long have you been together?" She asked.
"Do I need to answer?" Ryosuke said half-heartedly.
"Do you think you have a choice?" She asked back.
Ryosuke shook his head in amusement and resignation. He let out a chuckle and sighed. He really can't win against his daughter.
"Well, we've been married for seventeen years." He said as he looked at Aki, who had just turned seventeen last month. "And before that, we've been together for around ten years maybe." He continued.
"Wow." Yumi said. Of course from a twelve years old, that time would seem very long. "Was that when you were still in high school?" She asked.
"No. It was after we graduated." Ryosuke said.
"But you said you fell in love with her during high school. How come?" Yumi asked.
"Well, your mom is very popular, even then. Not just celebrity-wise. Everyone likes her and you know she have a strong character. I was a bit intimidated." Ryosuke confessed.
"You're popular." Yumi pointed out.
"Maybe." Ryosuke said, shrugging. "But you're mom just seems so out of reach."
Suddenly, Aki piped up. "What about Takahata-san?" He asked.
Ryosuke's eyes widen at this. How did he know about Mariya?
He raised his eyebrows at his son but Aki just shrugged. Ryosuke guessed he must have heard it from someone in the industry, since Aki himself is in the industry now.
"She was my first girlfriend." Ryosuke said simply.
Yumi's eyes widen at this. "But I thought you're first love was mom!" She exclaimed, and Ryosuke noted there was a tone of accusation in her voice.
"Well, no, it wasn't your mom. Nor was it Takahata-san. My first love was from when I was in kindergarten. That was way before I met your mom." He said with a shrugged.
Yumi still didn't looked pacified. "But after you met her you still fell in love with Takahata-san??" She asked urgently.
"I told you, I had a crush on your mom at first. But I only fell in love with her in high school. Takahata-san... I liked her and we went out for a while. But that's so long ago. Besides, Takahata-san is a close friend of your mom as well. And she also have her own family now. You know that." Ryosuke explained.
Yumi seeems to accept this but she kept quiet, looking sad.
Ryosuke shared a look with his son. Aki looked worried about Yumi as well.
"Your mom was my second and last girlfriend." Ryosuke decided to say, smiling at his daughter. "It was very hard to be together, especially with our work. We weren't sure of anything. But still, we held on and we knew it was worth all the trouble when we had your Aki-nii, your Yuta-nii and you." He said gently.
Finally, Yumi smiled. And then she looked at Aki, as if asking something. Aki didn't give any kind of response.
Ryosuke wondered what that was about but before he could ask, Yumi had turned back to him and asked, "How was it when you found out you love her? You were friends, right?"
"It was hard." Ryosuke said, automaticall; his reflex during interviews showing. "Cause I was afraid that if she found out, she'll avoid me; go away. Well, you guys already know she was aware all along."
"Yeah." Yumi said, grinning. "Mom's just too smart for you."
Ryosuke laughed. "She is." He admitted. "And good grief, I think you got her brain. Is my interview over?" He asked.
Yumi giggled. "Just one last question." She said, and she really sounded like an interviewer just then.
"You really really love mom and us, ne?" She asked, but it was more like a statement.
Ryosuke smiled and said, "With all of my life."
Yumi and Aki smiled at this.
"Daddy," Yumi said putting her arms around her dad.
"What is it, princess?" He asked, with a very contented smile.
"I promise I'll find someone just like you when I grow up." She declared.
Ryosuke looked at her in surprise. "Not too soon, okay?"
Yumi laughed and nodded.
Just then, they heard the gate open.
"They're here." Aki said.
The door opened and in came Mirai and Yuta.
Mirai gave Ryosuke a quick kiss on his cheek and proceeded upstairs.
"We'll be ready in a few." She said as she went, pulling Yuta with her.
"Mom's really something." Aki said after a pause.
Ryosuke laughed. "I'm thinking it's all the coffee."
Aki laughed as well.
"You love her anyway." Yumi said.
"Yes, I do." Ryosuke said.
Yumi grinned. "I didn't know this side. Daddy's unexpectedly romantic." She teased.
"Well, you forced me to show you this side." Ryosuke said, pinching his daughter's cheek mildly.
She just laughed.
"Then, as proof of your undying love for mom, I want you to kiss her passionately when she comes back."
"Are you serious?" Ryosuke said, incredulously.
"I am! I wanna see!" Yumi said, giggling.
At that moment, they heard Mirai called from upstairs. "We'll be down in a minute, go and start the car, Ryosuke!"
"Hai!" Ryosuke said.
"Do it, okay?" Yumi pushed.
"Hai, hai. Later, let's go to the car."
Aki laughed.
"You're too much like your mom, you. Can't imagine how Umika and Chii, and Yuto and Suzuka tolerate all her matchmaking before." Ryosuke muttered as the three of them went out to their car.
About three minutes later, Yuta and Mirai, all dressed, were back and with Mirai saying something to Yuta.
"Now, daddy." Yumi whispered.
Ryosuke sighed and then he felt someone push him lightly. Aki was grinning teasingly.
Ryosuke moved forward to his wife. Mirai stopped talking and looked at him in question.
He just shrugged, smiling sheepishly and then dipped down and kissed her.
Vaguely, he heard Yuta said, "Ewww! Yumi, don't look!"
But they broke abruptly when they felt a flash.
Both of them looked out their gates but didn't see anything.
Ryosuke sighed. Paparazzi. Well, it wasn't really a big deal, what they got. It's not like they were doing something scandalous.
"What was that about?" Mirai asked Ryosuke.
"Sorry. The kids made me." He explained.
Mirai shook her head at him in amusement. "You're a push-over." She teased.
He just shrugged.
"Well, let's go. Aki's big night." He said and the family got on their car.
---
Mirai ushered Yuta and Yumi as they got off the car. At once, there were flashes from cameras. Everyone was eager for pictures of the family.
Ryosuke got off the car as well, and waited for Aki. They walked together, a few steps behind Mirai, Yuta and Yumi.
When they were already inside the building, Ryosuke looked at his son and called him.
"Yeah?" He replied.
Ryosuke smiled. "So did you get what you wanna know?" He asked without preamble.
Aki blushed and looked down the floor.
"Not really." He muttered.
"Why don't you just ask me directly?" Ryosuke said, chuckling a bit. "You're sister's a little too much."
"Sorry." Aki said sheepishly. "I... well, I realized I like someone." He said, still not looking.
Ryosuke nodded. He figured as much. "So, what's the problem?" He asked.
"Well, like you and mom, we're friends." He said slowly. "And I don't really know what to do."
"Someone I know?" Ryosuke asked.
If possible, Aki blushed more.
That was a yes, thought Ryosuke. But he didn't push the issue.
"Well," Ryosuke said, and finally Aki looked up. "I think, if you really want something, you need to take risks; or else, you'll never get it. but of course, you don't have to rush. You have to think things through. You have to know what you really want. Besides, you're still young."
Aki was quiet for a while. At that time, they were already inside the movie house.
Finally, Aki nodded. "Thanks, dad." He said.
That was when they met with the other cast of the movie. Many greetings and congratulations were exchanged.
After a short while, they were ushered to their respective seats.
Aki, along with the other cast were directed towards the stage. Aki said goodbye to his family and followed after the others.
He rushed up to his co-star, who incidentally was also one of his best friends, Nakajima Yuka.
Yuka had waited for him and they exchanged smiles before they continued walking.
And Ryosuke knew at once who Aki was talking about.
The audience started screaming as they saw the cast move up the stage. There were so many teenagers in the crowd. Many were holding Uchiwas and posters. Well, Aki was in JE so that was expected. What Ryosuke didn't expect was a few fans holding posters with Aki and Yuka's pictures and written at the bottom was the first kanji of 'Yamada' written in blue ink and then the second kanji of 'Nakajima' written in pink.
Seems the pairing was a big hit.
"You think it's just a crush?" Someone suddenly said from his left.
He chuckled, turning to Mirai. "Yes. For now, at least. But you know, this movie... I can imagine it really happening to them. You know. Similar situation and stuffs." She said.
She nodded and laughed. "Think one day they'll have their own book?" She asked, jokingly.
"What, 'Orange'?" Ryosuke teased.
"Orange?" Mirai said, raising her eyebrows at him.
"You know... Aki's favorite color is red, and Yuto said Yuka's is yellow." He shrugged. "Just like 'Gray.' That's where the title is from, right? Because my favorite color is white and yours is black." He told her.
"That's more than that, you know." Mirai said indignantly.
Ryosuke laughed once more. "Well, you're the author, I can't argue with you. Wait, shouldn't you be on the stage with them?"
END
AN:
-my reason for 'gray' is as yama said, their favorite color. and i was thinking it can represent the fact that mirai and ryosuke are different in many ways (public image, career, priorities, character, views in life). and that it's hard for them to blend because their colors are opposite, contradicting. but they realized that the world is not divided into black and white, there are also gray areas. and in the end their world had blotches of black and white, and had gray parts, but looking at it in whole, you'll see just one color, which is gray. /shot
-it is possible for mirai to write a book someday. it's not unusual for actors. anyway, mirai likes reading books. xD
