Homespun and row counters
Two massive (and I mean garbage-bag size) bags of hand-spun wool were dropped into the Op Shop today. It is all very nice and dyed and lovely, but now I have to sort it into bags and weigh them. The first thing I discovered when I began knitting is that while I love the act of knitting, I absolutely hate, loathe and detest the part where you have to get out a needle with an eye and do something with the ends. My new cousin was born on Valentine's Day, sharing her birthday with one of her older half-brothers. My parents are visiting her this weekend, taking with them the one pair of booties I actually finished and not the small afghan-thing I was trying to get done but have only done... erm... two squares of.

I just remembered that knitting can be REALLY expensive
My father has been dropping hints at me. Actually, very broad statements. He wants me to knit him a jumper, which I have decided I'll do in the intention of it being a birthday/Father's Day present (birthday is 31st March, in Australia Father's Day is the first Sunday in September... And I thought yarn splitting was annoying!
I am knitting squares in Zhivago Baby for a blanket for my uncle's expected bub. I've been enjoying having an upcoming baby to knit for, and have discovered that booties are far more addictive than socks. Today Mama Smurf decided that she would get her old knitting stuff down from the top of her wardrobe. Mama Smurf was the kind of knitter who was madly knitting an outfit hours after my youngest brother was born, because it was started three children before this and there might not ever be another to give it to! I have just remembered why I don't visit online yarn stores too often: I want to spend far more than I can afford. Although, luckily, none of the Australian ones (and I'm afraid I'm over paying the international postage costs of American ones) have PayPal options, so impulse buying is less of a risk.

This year's Boxing Day involved travelling to Melbourne and back again, although it was made easier this year by the Pakenham Bypass being finally open.
