I got nothin'

- Someone, possibly in Austin, ganged up my car. There's a hood tag written in Sharpie on the passenger side front door of the ChickWagon. My hope is that other local thugs will follow suit, transforming my beat-up ride into a graffed-up masterpiece, but I'm not entirely confident in that hope ( Read more... )

Very smart non-consumer choices, though.

The most expensive thing I ever bought was my wedding gown ($100). If we're talking a value of "own" that involves "will be able to wear again," I honestly couldn't say. I'm guessing something on the order of $30 or so, as that's my upper limit for clothes, but precisely what it is I have no clue.

I tend not to put too much value on practicality, as I have spent $400 on several occasions on things that I hope never to use. But I just get to a certain point, with clothes, where I find myself wondering what possible advantage a shirt that costs $100 has over a shirt that costs 1/4 as much.

I wonder that, too. Not much of an advantage, I'd guess. At least, not that I've ever seen.

paying off credit cards are a great good. I am all for that. And as for the expensive items, I have only recently been able to allow myself to spend more than 20 bones on a shirt, buy a suit, and not agonize over buying sneakers. The last one isn't true. But now that I have a job I can be conned into buying an expensive item-- my suit was $300 and change I think and my coat was $100+. I bought a $60 shirt before a wedding last year, and I am prepared to spend 60+ on a pair of slacks. Those are all items I wear to death (well, not the suit) so it'll be worth it. If I had to do it again I would spend $200 on the coat and get a better one that would last longer ( ... )

Well, discounting a five-hundred dollar suit, my kilt cost me $165 and my nize jacket cost me $85. Everything else I own cost forty dogs or less ...

Except for socks and underwear, I buy all my clothese at thrift stores. Consequently, I'm pretty sure my most expensive article of clothing is a trenchcoat I got for something like $40. Beat that!

Admittedly, I don't own a suit. Should I ever feel the need to acquire one, I'm afraid my $40 record will be shattered.
