1) THE GETTING OF THE THING. Feel free to jump in. lists_to_port August 26 2011, 03:26:12 UTC
Sparrow sprinted across the deck. It was imperative---imperative---that Law and Hornblower not train their guns on the prize before it came within range of Beckett's Mum. He needed to find someone with the right abilities to make this so. Someone talented, and as bored as he was.

Bored? Yeah, that was pretty accurate for Mulder. This did beat out the last significant ship voyage he'd been on, and he was keeping alert to help protect the non combatants when needed. But right now... nothing much was going on. He glanced out at the water, stubbornly hoping to see some sea monsters. It was fine if they kept their distance, he just wanted to get a glimpse of something.

Oh---there was...gah, what was his name?! The quiet one who was always staring at the sky. Jack had assigned him the late watch, just to get some use out of that particular talent. Otherwise he wasn't sure the man HAD any other usefulnesses.

"Oi---Mundy--Mulkle---whatever. Ship--there; enemy ship. You know how to sail?"

Well, he didn't try to call him Fox, at least?

"It's Mulder... and, hm. I've played some pretty cutthroat games of Battleship, does that count?"

Mulder glanced up. Something was there. Still a ways off, but... it was gaining on them, from the look of it. He returned his attention to the pirate captain, he was good about putting two and two together.

"What exactly are you planning?"

[Airship hijacking? Where has Suki heard of this before?

Feeling very much in her element, Suki tears her way through the enemy ranks, leaping and bouncing over heads to attack the wings of the Third Party soldiers. They had something of an advantage, usually, but in the confines of the airship's lower decks, there was no room to fly. Clearing the ship of all enemies should be a simple task for a group with their skills. And with no powers or technology assisting her, they couldn't give her any handicaps.

And this airship has weapons they can use! With this, they'll be sure to do more damage.]

[For all of Sokka's hard training, he wasn't quite the acrobat Suki was. And by that, it meant he wasn't one at all. So rather than bouncing over them, Sokka had the rather messy business of moving through the corridor on foot, cutting down the soldiers as he passed, narrowly avoiding their blows, and finishing off any that his initial blows didn't finish.]

Okay, so, actually taking over a TP ship is a lot harder than a Fire Nation one. Falling for the birthday ruse was a little too much to ask for.

apparently this notif was lost in limbo too, good grief sokkafangirl August 29 2011, 23:31:13 UTC
[It's an unpleasant job, clearing the halls, but at least infiltration is something she's good at. Taking down a soldier behind her with a quick backstap of her katana, she sheathes it and returns to her fans, tossing one towards an opponent blocking off the door ahead of them.]

We can't expect the same trick to work twice!

[Once they're through the door, Sokka is going to SEAL IT behind them.]

Well there isn't even a control room on this ship anyway. I hate to say it, but I miss the Fire Nation.

The trees back home didn't move- or fly for that matter- but whether that looming skyward hull was made of wood or metal, they had deemed it worthy for the taking, and Jet was going to climb it. Thus far he had managed to make it past the hoards to the masts, and headed for the highest point he could reach.

"Here goes,"

Weapons drawn, back arched, it was obvious what the Freedom fighter planned to do. No doubt the sight of someone throwing themselves at an airship looked insane; but when had Jet ever gave the impression he wasn't? It wouldn't be the most conventional way of boarding- he probably had minutes before he'd be thrown back off, but if they could just draw the thing closer, Toph's metal nonbendingwhatever abilities could probably help reel this sucker in.

Once on board, Jet will probably encounter Jack Sparrow slicing away at any Third Party crewman he meets. They gained the ship with the element of surprise, but it didn't take that long for their enemies to figure out what was going on. Now the fight has begun in earnest. Sokka and Suki had already dispatched much of the crew at the ship's stern, and Jack's plan was to take care of the gunners.

The climb upward definitely took a lot out of him, but behind the beading sweet and sore limbs was the kind of fierce spirit Jet hadn't displayed in months. He caught a glimpse of Jack up ahead and flashed a quick grin.

“Definitely a lot more interesting than the cargo.”

He wasn't completely at the gunner's station, but Jet attempted to aid the pirate in yanking back any third party members that tried to assist their brethren in the battle near Jack. The long range of hookswords definitely proved advantage on the higher ground, it made it easier to keep his footing whenever he shoved a few over the edge. They had wings, they could deal with it.

“We got someone steering this thing?”

"We'll have ME steering it in a moment once we've got their guns out of commission!" was the shouted reply. The last thing Jack wanted was for this prize to fire upon Beckett's Mum. Or, worse---for the gunners to turn the weapons on their own ship and ignite the powder magazine, sending everyone sky-high.

He gutted another TPer before heading for the hatch that led belowdecks.

"COME ON!"

Glitch was limping to the controls. He'd twisted his left ankle somewhere in the process of boarding-and-not-getting-killed, and was busily focusing on the mission from the Captain so as not to worry about the...carnage.

So this was Third Party. Ozma's emeralds, how would he ever be able to fight them? No, no, don't worry about that, juts focus on the mission of staying in the air and and things.

Gears and levers and switches. "...oh my."

At some point Jack will pop his head into the engine room and see how Glitch is faring.

"Glitch? We've not as much power as we should to those balloonish things. What's the trouble?"

justaddmarbles August 28 2011, 15:55:20 UTC
He'dd located a schematic of the engine and pinned it to a wall, then unpinned it and stuck it back right-side up. Piping and gauges and none of it made sense but...there on the empty edge of his mind he knew what was wrong, he just needed to push, to presume, to press-

"Pressure!" Glitch finally declared and tapped a gauge with his spanner. The measuring needle was fluctuating wildly, dropping low and then spiking to the proper range. "There's a a a leak, somewhere, probably up in that mess." He gestured to the main pipe which led to the network supporting flotation. "I I think I can..."

And then, staring at the gauges, his expression blanked and his voice went all quiet and focused. "--compensate if I divert some of the power from propulsion at the boiler inlet, but then speed would be compromised." He blinked, cocked his head, and Glitch was back. "O-or the whole thing could blow up."

"I never want speed compromised, savvy? Speed is my friend. Speed is the especial friend of Captain Jack Sparrow. Just tell me what to do--I'll climb up and fix it!"

It had been a while since that flag had been run up the airship -- a while since its arrival had brought a sharp, short chuckle from the Slayer's lips. And once she was sure that the assault on the cargo ship had calmed down, Buffy made use of the little boats and jet-skis that were so thoughtfully provided for them by their drafters. She didn't do any of the driving herself -- oh, no. She talked another draftee into bringing her from cargo ship to a trailing rope. She'd spotted it from a distance and thought she ought to jump on the opportunity before the fastidiously tidy pirate coiled it up somewhere and deprived her of the chance to see him again.

So Buffy Summers climbed one rather long climb. It was a lot like high school gym class, she thought. Only this rope never seemed to end. But when she finally gained the airship's deck with a bit of a wobble and a frown, she grabbed hold of the first crewmember she could find.

"Captain's cabin. Just -- just point."

And off she went.

Captain Sparrow was in the captain's cabin. The captain lay dead nearby, his throat slit, but the pirate was ignoring that; he was too busy poring over the charts and maps that lay on the table, greedily absorbing information about these seas. The hijacking mission had been his idea of a success: no casualties and they'd taken the ship successfully. Third Party crewmembers had all been disposed of, much as it made his lip curl to think about that.

Killing them, though, was different from killing anyone else.

Then he heard approaching footsteps. "Enter," he said sharply without turning around.

She flirted with the notion of once again not identifying herself but quickly tossed that away. Not after the last disaster. So she tried to joke at the pirate's back. "What am I supposed to throw at you now, huh? I'm all out of Tic Tacs. But I have this little container of trail mix..."

It was one of a few supplyish things she'd grabbed and stuffed into a back-pack before making her way over to the airship.

"Buffy!" And in three strides Jack crossed the cabin and was throwing his arms around her. Muffled, against her hair: "Welcome."
