It had been a while since that flag had been run up the airship -- a while since its arrival had brought a sharp, short chuckle from the Slayer's lips. And once she was sure that the assault on the cargo ship had calmed down, Buffy made use of the little boats and jet-skis that were so thoughtfully provided for them by their drafters. She didn't do any of the driving herself -- oh, no. She talked another draftee into bringing her from cargo ship to a trailing rope. She'd spotted it from a distance and thought she ought to jump on the opportunity before the fastidiously tidy pirate coiled it up somewhere and deprived her of the chance to see him again.

So Buffy Summers climbed one rather long climb. It was a lot like high school gym class, she thought. Only this rope never seemed to end. But when she finally gained the airship's deck with a bit of a wobble and a frown, she grabbed hold of the first crewmember she could find.

"Captain's cabin. Just -- just point."

And off she went.

Captain Sparrow was in the captain's cabin. The captain lay dead nearby, his throat slit, but the pirate was ignoring that; he was too busy poring over the charts and maps that lay on the table, greedily absorbing information about these seas. The hijacking mission had been his idea of a success: no casualties and they'd taken the ship successfully. Third Party crewmembers had all been disposed of, much as it made his lip curl to think about that.

Killing them, though, was different from killing anyone else.

Then he heard approaching footsteps. "Enter," he said sharply without turning around.

She flirted with the notion of once again not identifying herself but quickly tossed that away. Not after the last disaster. So she tried to joke at the pirate's back. "What am I supposed to throw at you now, huh? I'm all out of Tic Tacs. But I have this little container of trail mix..."

It was one of a few supplyish things she'd grabbed and stuffed into a back-pack before making her way over to the airship.

"Buffy!" And in three strides Jack crossed the cabin and was throwing his arms around her. Muffled, against her hair: "Welcome."

She reciprocated that hold with power that was kindly tempered with care. "I saw the flag. Very you."

"Thought you might like that," he answered gruffly. "She's rather a nice scouting vessel, eh? But she's got some guns under her belt. We're rearguard, now. Rather the place for a man who always runs away, eh?"

She stepped back out of the embrace but remained close. "I didn't know you when I said that, Jack. Not like I do now."

A hint of an apology.

"You knew me well enough," he assured her. "What do you think of the Elizabeth, hmm?"

A grand sweeping of the arms as Jack indicated his proud new vessel.

"That's her name, huh?" With what little she actually knew of this Elizabeth, she could hardly guess at whether it was a fitting name or not. Perhaps she could convince Norrington to give her more information about Will Turner's wife. Oooor maybe not.

"...She flies. With balloons. Kind of on the far side of weird, don't you think?"

"Aye, she flies!" He was practically wriggling with happiness. "The Elizabeth flies like a beautiful graceful albatross, and just as lucky, I think! I've just got to get the lads trained up on her guns and we'll be ready. That Munster fellow, now---Muckler...bugger. I always forget. Tall fellow, looks at the stars a lot---he's a likely one!"

"...Who?"

And then she ran through the list of those she'd seen on the decks during her arrival. Ah. "Oh. Mulder. Hah. Right. The cop."

"Him? The law? Ha!" With a devilish grin Jack swept away from her and back to his maps, stepping carefully over the bloody corpse on the floor. He rolled up one or two and tucked them into his coat before returning to the dead former captain, lifting him beneath the arms.

"He's like no lawman I've ever met."

If Buffy Summers had yet registered the corpse, she showed no signs of it. More likely, she barely considered it something worth noting. How many had she dropped all on her own on the decks of the cargo ship?

"That's...kind of the point. He's, like, the quintessential loose cannon FBI agent. Bravely crusading after the truth when all others are either crooked or non-believing.

...Do you want help with that?"

"Mmmph. Aye. Grab the legs, will you? We'll swing him over the side." There would be no ceremony spent on this lost captain. Jack wondered if he'd ever face him down again: how far would the cycle of vengeance ignited on these drafts travel?

She dropped her backpack and did as she was asked. Buffy grabbed onto those legs and pulled up -- careful not to trip and slip in the blood.

"How hard was she to take, Jack?"

"Not so bad."

It hadn't been difficult to scale that rope; fighting desperate and vicious Third Party sailors was a different story altogether. They had all come through unscathed, however, and he counted that as a major victory.

Once at the rail, Jack swung his burden up and over and turned without waiting to see how the body fared.

"We had surprise on our side, and stealth. There was some fighting to be done, though, in the end."
