1) THE GETTING OF THE THING. Feel free to jump in. lists_to_port August 26 2011, 03:26:12 UTC
Sparrow sprinted across the deck. It was imperative---imperative---that Law and Hornblower not train their guns on the prize before it came within range of Beckett's Mum. He needed to find someone with the right abilities to make this so. Someone talented, and as bored as he was.

Bored? Yeah, that was pretty accurate for Mulder. This did beat out the last significant ship voyage he'd been on, and he was keeping alert to help protect the non combatants when needed. But right now... nothing much was going on. He glanced out at the water, stubbornly hoping to see some sea monsters. It was fine if they kept their distance, he just wanted to get a glimpse of something.

Oh---there was...gah, what was his name?! The quiet one who was always staring at the sky. Jack had assigned him the late watch, just to get some use out of that particular talent. Otherwise he wasn't sure the man HAD any other usefulnesses.

"Oi---Mundy--Mulkle---whatever. Ship--there; enemy ship. You know how to sail?"

Well, he didn't try to call him Fox, at least?

"It's Mulder... and, hm. I've played some pretty cutthroat games of Battleship, does that count?"

Mulder glanced up. Something was there. Still a ways off, but... it was gaining on them, from the look of it. He returned his attention to the pirate captain, he was good about putting two and two together.

"What exactly are you planning?"

"Taking her!"

That was STILL about the extent of the plan.

"Think of it, Munter! You! Me! Us! FLYING. Eh?"

Glitch, with grappling hook and rope looped over one shoulder, poked his beaky nose into the conversation.

"Yes! Flying!" His somewhat vacant grin faltered at that, veering towards a grimace. "W-with altitudes and trajectories and stuff. Um."

Right.

"So we're talking an improvised hijacking mission?"

The prospect of flying on one of those was majorly tempting. Getting up there, and sticking it to the enemy at the same time... Mulder could get down with that. He could also get down with making the plan up as they went along. Some of his own plans often went like that, to Scully's dismay. He glanced at the newcomer, offering him a brief grin on seeing he looked well equipped.

"...That, I can do. Count me in."

"Knew you had it in you, Munster! Right! Remember this, lads: I'm not asking you to give your lives. Just your all, savvy? No soul lost on this mission, or I'll have broken a promise to an insufferable prig. Quietly, now!"

And well before that ship is in range, Jack will have Toph send the metal grappling hook skyward. It will settle on the rail and the attached rope will give the party a way to climb right to the top, to the Third Party crew's surprise. It is a perilous climb, though, from the deck of the cargo ship to a boat some two hundred feet in the air and astern. Do not slip!

Right, a little climbing never stopped Mulder before. He rubbed his hands together in anticipation, giving just one upward glance, and deciding it was best he just forgot what he'd seen in that glance. Still, he'd survived that Skyline Mountain incident- and that had included someone actively trying to kill him- so he could do this.

More or less, anyway. It was a long, rough climb up and it took a lot of concentration and effort to make it. Of course, no long stretch of climb would be complete without one terrifying moment of near slippage. And the accompanying moment of cursing fit for any pirate crewmember. Though after a tense moment, Mulder managed to recover enough to keep along the way, finally seeing the end in sight...

Once on deck, the sword-work would have to be as quick and quiet as possible. Jack opts for sneaking up and throwing sailors overboard---even going so far as knocking a few out to be tied up and thrown in the brig. He hates killing, though he knows that it has been deemed "necessary" by the Powers That Be on these drafts.

Still, a lot of enemy soldiers end up unconscious and tied rather than dead at Jack's hand.

Incapacitating them by knocking them out or tossing them overboard is Mulder's initial plan, at least when they first get on and stealth is of the essence. He'll shoot later on, when things get rough and only the last tough bunch of fighters remain. Those end up incapacitated one way or the other, whether injured or dead.

Mulder has absolutely no qualms with killing the Third Party when he has to. He puts them on the same level as people like Krycek and the Cancer Man.

Finally it seems that the two have cleared at least this part of the ship. As a small scout ship, it wasn't carrying a large crew---only enough sailors to man the few guns and keep it in the air, an intelligence detachment from the Third Party, and the officers.

The Captain was already dead in his cabin, his throat slit.

"I think we've done it, Mustang. I think we've cleared them." The pirate took a moment to catch his breath and lean wearily against the rail.

With a glance around, Mulder nods agreement. He gets a new clip ready in his gun- in the off chance they'd missed someone- but for now, looks like he can put the weapon away. "If the ship's secure, maybe we can start finding answers..." If there are any to be found, but maybe...

"Right. You look like the sort of man what likes an answer and knows one when he sees it. Start peeling the skin back on this boat, mate; look for anything what might give us some notion of what we're up against. I've got to see to Glitch; he needs seeing to, I imagine."

"Yeah, he seemed a little overwhelmed." Hopefully he'd be better in his element now though. Mulder nodded. "I won't stop until I've covered every inch of this vessel." A chance to find enemy secrets... he was on that.

Glitch wasn't so much bored as hopelessly out of his element. At least he'd finally gained some sort of steady footing, and the checkers had been providing some decent distraction, so he could maybe pretend all was right with the world.

The spell was broken when someone sprinted past him up the deck. Sprinting tended to mean trouble, and while his survival instincts told him to find the nearest route below his curiosity...had other ideas. So he scampered after Sparrow, hoping to maybe Learn Things.

"What's going on?"
