You're a brave one, far braver than me obviously. The idea of h/c bingo truly terrifies me - in fact more than I thought it would, but after looking at that card...
But I think you're braver than me, because you kink_bingo card frightens the life out of me! And to be honest, that card is scary, especially first thing in the morning, but the more I look at it, the more I see possibilities - and the prompts are defined like the tropes at trope_bingo (and there are plenty of ways to interpret those even so), they're just prompts as stands
( ... )
I don't know if you're aware of it, but trope bingo does have a themed mini-card challenge during amnesty. Can I use your idea? An apocalypse mini-card selection sound rather nice, though I have only vague ideas for sub-tropes right now.*totally hasn't been looking up apocalypses on TV Tropes etc

I've been reading the comment threads and finding myself very comforted (no joke intended for once)! Both MacGyver and Stargate tend towards, not even, h/c, but outright whump -- all H, no C -- and it goes overboard so often it drives me nuts.
There was one MacGyver fic writer who started out a very good writer, and then devolved into what I can only call 'torture porn'. Utterly unreadable -- the characters became completely unrecognisable, and all semblance of actual story vanished as well. In a small fandom with only a few good writers, losing one to a torture fetish was doubly infuriating!
I love the Six/Peri idea -- I would read that!!
On Lost Spook's card, I read 'branding' and immediately started thinking about how to subvert the trope so that it was about commercial branding instead. For example, corporate Disney, or Lucasfilm, or action figures . . .
Interpreting things is definitely allowed (or I would NOT have been signing up)! If I do that one, it's being metaphorical - or, yes, commericial, or something. But not literal branding. Unless, I suppose some weird fic idea occurs, because these things do happen...
but I do like hurt/comfort, even if I think my definition in my head is not always the same as other people's How do you think your definition differs from other people's?
it involving someone noticing someone else's problems? Yes, that is nice.
And I don't at all think it's something that it's automatically OOC, which is one of the things that gets flung at it. That's just badfic, of any genre. It's only going to be interesting when it's in characterYeah, I think people are sometimes scared of hardcore whump, or annoyed by really schmoopy h/c that gets OOC, but neither of those are necessarily what it's about

Like, in superhero fandoms sometimes you see characters being hurt enough to take them out of the field, but not so much that the fic is mostly about them being in pain, and then other characters entertaining them/keeping them company, but since they aren't upset it isn't exactly comfort either?
heh, yes, that's quite a specific one, isn't it? I don't think I've seen it in a fic, but then I'm not really in any superhero fandoms. Maybe convalescence fic? Er... *stumped*
And I don't know, mild/subtle hurt/comfort is still hurt/comfort - it just won't quite conform to expectations.
Yeah, I think people are sometimes scared of hardcore whump, or annoyed by really schmoopy h/c that gets OOC, but neither of those are necessarily what it's about.Which is very true - and it's perfectly understandable getting turned off if you've been in a fandom where there's a lot of stuff like that, or the hurt is gratuitous/extreme and too easily fixed, or involves OOC-ness
