... He wasn't exactly sure he wanted to go inside.
At least, not after reading the sign on the door front. Who refuses service to blood relatives? Wasn't that the point of having something new and shiny, to show it off to your tried and true, your nearest and dearest? Not to mention it gave him a vague sense of foreboding before he even stepped foot across the threshold of the small bookshop, the tinkling of the entrance bells the only thing to alert him that he had in fact conquered the glass door and stepped into wonderland.
Oh, the things you do for your boyfriend's brother.
Kai traversed warily up to the main counter, eyes grooming the shop from top to bottom, left and ri-- was that a fucking clown? He stopped ten cents shy of the counter to stare absently at the peek of a harlequin in his periphery, mouth only the slightest bit agape and attention slacked.
"Huh," He uttered simply, the details of his quest soon coming back to memory as he turned to the counter. "Um.. excuse me, sir?"
Despite the sound of the front bell, Arthur didn't look up from current text. It was all in the interests of not seeming too enthusiastic coupled with his own experiences of annoying shopkeepers that would not leave him alone that made him determined not to pester his customers unless they sought him out.
So, it was with a small measure of surprise and restrained eagerness that he found himself already elicited. Swiftly using a paper from one of his inventory lists as a makeshift bookmark, Arthur closed his book and turned his full attention to the person in front of his desk.
Well, he at least seemed friendly enough. Swiftly any thoughts of indecision from lingering further were quickly dashed aside, replaced by a smile of his own as he stepped forward. "Ah, yeah, I.. well, I honestly don't really know what I'm looking for. It's a gift for a friend of mine."
Kai paused, for a moment grooming the pages of his mind to sort through what descriptions of Sindre he could provide other than 'pain-stakingly terrifying on occasion with a side of making me wish I could die'. "He.. he really likes that psychology stuff, but also likes the mystical and magical. Is there any sort of book that bridges both of those? I was thinking like astrology would have something like that, but.."

Yekaterina hadn't had much free time lately, and because of that, she'd been finding herself bringing home dinner after her late classes instead of actually cooking. It had made her guilty, the inablity to take care of her family members herself weighing down on her shoulders in a way that made her tear up, salty tears rolling down her cheeks, whenever she thought of it. But on her way into town, she just happened by the sign of a grand re-opening of a bookstore
( ... )
Abigael had been perusing the cooking section quietly, wondering if Arthur had any books on potatoes or anything remotely Irish and finding herself slightly disappointed in him. But there was an entire book on treacle tart that she could take out... Probably perfect a few this summer. A few that would get her into Arthur's house more often than Sundays.
As she reached up for a book and found it just out of reach, she jumped a foot in the air as a woman rushed into the same aisle as her. Taking a moment to get her breath back, she walked over, putting a hand on her arm. "Are ye alright, missy?"
Starting again as soon as she saw the redhead(?), Katya blinked, blue eyes focusing on the shorter woman and offering a weak smile. "Oh- yes yes... My apologies..." she said, putting a hand over her heart and her other hand pulling up her shoulder bag again. "I was... startled by a doll- I am s-so sorry if I scaring you-" she said quickly, rubbing at her eye.
Katya took a little time to take in the Irish woman's appearance, offering a soft if not a slightly watery smile. No crying in front of strangers, even if her eyes were already uncomfortably warm from the fright.
"S-Sorry. I.. very sorry miss-" she paused, sniffling quietly and offering her hand out for a handshake (that was customary, right?) "I am... Yekaterina- or... just Katya for short."
Samu, what with all the Harlequins. What if Dad shows up?das_vedanyaMay 23 2011, 04:45:01 UTC
First and foremost, the books Ivan had in his arms - bearing such titles as Dating for Dummies, Finding Our Fathers : How a Man's Life Is Shaped by His Relationship with His Father, Living with the Passive-Aggressive Man: Coping with Hidden Aggression - From the Bedroom to the Boardroom, Light His Fire: How to Keep Your Man Passionately and Hopelessly in Love With You, and a rather elegant looking copy of Dostoyevsky's The Brother's Karamazov stacked atop of them (to allude any wandering eyes) - were not for him, they were for his clients

Alfred already had his lucky find as he supporting nearly ten... maybe eleven books centred on the 3.5 Dungeons & Dragons books. This was totally the best find as he was wandering through the store, trying to vaguely find the exit but mostly enjoying getting himself lost in the store.
He walked by a certain section, only giving it a passing glance before pausing and taking a step back, a smile spreading over his face.
He thought perhaps that the approaching footsteps were further away then they actually were, but that godforsaken nickname was enough to send a chill reminder of just who those footsteps belonged to.
At least not before he had strewn his planned purchases on the bookstore floor. Frantic, he moved to start picking them up, not even acknowledging the other until he came to notice that one of the books (Dating for Dummies) had fallen near Jones' left foot. "What are you doing here?"
