Needing info on stately Wayne Manor...

Oct 13, 2006 20:56

Does anyone have a site or blueprints on the latest version of Wayne Manor from the comics? Or even the title of a special comic that has the info that I can find the torrent for? I've found info on Wiki and a couple other pages on the history of the Manor itself, but not any plans or blueprints. I'm needing something like the general layout. ( Read more... )

If you can get your hands on that it might have something.

I can remember seeing maps of Gotham and such, but never a layout of Wayne Manor. I don't think there ever was an official one.

I have that book and I just flipped though it, it has a good pic of the outside of the manor (pages 38-39) and a detailed layout of the Batcave (pages 40-43) it has no floor plans of the interior of the manor proper.

Ok, I called a friend of mine and he said that DC has no official layout of Wayne manor. If an artist or writer asks, the offical line is that the Batcave is accessed through the clock in the den, there is a grand staircase at the entry hall and the marble floors have a high shine.

Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Actually that helps a lot. That means I'm free to make it all up and don't have to worry. LOL!

Thank you so much!

This comes from Mike Stackpole's Batman Sourcebook for the DC Roleplaying game. The book is copyright 1989, which is a full game line ago and before uncounted iterations of the mansion in the comics (including Cataclysm), but here's what it has to say (summarized):

The building has three main stories with a two story wing added to the east end. The first floor has a foyer, dining room, den, private study, ballroom, gym, game room, art gallery, and library. The den is where Bruce is often shown thinking/sulking and is where his eponymous bat came through the window. The private study is the room where the grandfather clock staircase entrance to the Batcave is. The family library has an other Batcave entrance. The pool is outdoors.

The second floor has five guest rooms, Dick's room, and Jason's room. Dick and Jason's rooms both have secret panels behind which they kept their Robin costumes.

The third floor has Bruce's master suite containing his master bedroom, a media room and his office, and a meeting room. The master suite ( ... )

Yeah...but remember this info was for the Manor before the earthquake destroyed it, when it was rebuilt it was a completely different building it would be similar but not identical

That presupposes that there's some kind of "identical" quality that runs through the five or six Batman titles, the Batman family titles, and the guest appearances. There isn't. As it_gurl points out, there are certain features that are sort of consistent, but everything else is fair game and frequently not even consistent from issue to issue.

My read on the Batman Sourcebook Wayne Manor is that it's too small and not Gothic or Tudor enough. It's only about 25 X 75 meters, and it lacks the distinctive Old World look that I've come to enjoy in the films. If I was doing Batman fiction, I'd check out the Wikipedia article on Wayne Manor and follow up on the buildings that were used for the exterior shots in the films. If there are floor plans for them (or buildings like them), I'd use those with whatever modifications Bruce might have put in (secret passages, modernized rooms, etc.).

Remember that in the DC comic run, Wayne Manor got totally busted up and collapsed during Gotham's big, destructive earthquake a few years back. Wayne//Batman had the manor rebuilt to be better and more solid and more fortress-like and Earthquake Proof and stuff. I forget if Wayne//Batman re-established the olde blueprints and made them Earthquake Proof or if he completely redesigned the entire manor, but I definately remember Bruce and Alfred standing over the manor's ruins with blueprints and saying stuff like "Alfred, it's going to be better, let's rebuild this shit to kick ass!".

I'm sure Wikipedia can give answers [post-earthquake, pre-rebuilt Gotham was called 'No Man's Land'], as can google-terms that include: "gotham earthquake", ""wayne manor" earthquake" and such.

Thanks for the reminder. I haven't been able to find anything on the layout of the Manor on Wiki, just the general history and stuff but maybe if I check out that Gotham earthquake that'll give me an idea. Thanks!

No problem. I hope at least Wiki was able to give better key-word help :P
