Needing info on stately Wayne Manor...

Oct 13, 2006 20:56

Does anyone have a site or blueprints on the latest version of Wayne Manor from the comics? Or even the title of a special comic that has the info that I can find the torrent for? I've found info on Wiki and a couple other pages on the history of the Manor itself, but not any plans or blueprints. I'm needing something like the general layout. ( Read more... )

This comes from Mike Stackpole's Batman Sourcebook for the DC Roleplaying game. The book is copyright 1989, which is a full game line ago and before uncounted iterations of the mansion in the comics (including Cataclysm), but here's what it has to say (summarized):

The building has three main stories with a two story wing added to the east end. The first floor has a foyer, dining room, den, private study, ballroom, gym, game room, art gallery, and library. The den is where Bruce is often shown thinking/sulking and is where his eponymous bat came through the window. The private study is the room where the grandfather clock staircase entrance to the Batcave is. The family library has an other Batcave entrance. The pool is outdoors.

The second floor has five guest rooms, Dick's room, and Jason's room. Dick and Jason's rooms both have secret panels behind which they kept their Robin costumes.

The third floor has Bruce's master suite containing his master bedroom, a media room and his office, and a meeting room. The master suite used to be the attic; Bruce remodeled it.

There is also a basement containing a wine cellar, a laundry, the furnace room, and a large hidden room for disguises and make-up.

If you can lay your hands on a copy of the book, it has floor plans. For whatever reason, this version looks decidely not-Gothic in the exterior drawings.

The June 2000 Sourcebook: Gotham City for the West End Games DCU RPG version of the game does not have nearly as much detail of the manor. According to it, the manor is 204 feet above sea level and has a helipad, both indoor and outdoor Olympic pools, a sauna, a tennis court, and "several hundred rooms."

Yeah...but remember this info was for the Manor before the earthquake destroyed it, when it was rebuilt it was a completely different building it would be similar but not identical

That presupposes that there's some kind of "identical" quality that runs through the five or six Batman titles, the Batman family titles, and the guest appearances. There isn't. As it_gurl points out, there are certain features that are sort of consistent, but everything else is fair game and frequently not even consistent from issue to issue.

My read on the Batman Sourcebook Wayne Manor is that it's too small and not Gothic or Tudor enough. It's only about 25 X 75 meters, and it lacks the distinctive Old World look that I've come to enjoy in the films. If I was doing Batman fiction, I'd check out the Wikipedia article on Wayne Manor and follow up on the buildings that were used for the exterior shots in the films. If there are floor plans for them (or buildings like them), I'd use those with whatever modifications Bruce might have put in (secret passages, modernized rooms, etc.).

Still it can't be that different. And at least it gives me an idea. The biggest house I've ever been in had three bedrooms. Now at least I have an idea of what goes where.

Thanks again!
