Summary: Jung Yunho was supposed to be the mysterious, indifferent, student council president. While he’d never stolen any minute of Kim Jaejoong’s attention before, he certainly was now.
“Have you sorted out your things yet?”
Jaejoong turned his head and glanced at his best friend, “What things?” he questioned as he toyed with the blades of grass underneath the palm of his hands, “I cleaned my room yesterday if that’s what you’re asking -“
Yoochun shook his head and laughed loudly, “You idiot.”
The other student scowled, “What the fuck are you talking about?”
“I meant, your university things, you know? Like your confirmation shit and whatever, those kinds of things…” Yoochun said as he continued to shake his head in amusement. He stared up at the leafy covering provided by the acacia tree they were both lying down under and sighed, “God, I feel old.”
“You are old.”
“You’re older than me you fucker.”
“Shut up.”
They relaxed in silence, and after a few more minutes of enjoyable stillness, Jaejoong shut his eyes to get some sleep. He could still feel the slight caress of the summer breeze against his skin, and despite the shade provided by the acacia tree, he could still feel an enjoyable amount of warmth settle over his body.
“Where’s Yunho going to study?”
“I’m not sure,” Jaejoong replied casually as he stretched his arms out further, “He hasn’t really said anything, but he passed every school he applied to. I asked him about it a few days back, and he said that he hasn’t really made a decision yet.”
“I see.”
Neither of them said anything, and after a few minutes, Jaejoong opened his eyes to tilt his head and look at his best friend. “Where are you studying?”
“I don’t know yet. What about you?”
“I don’t know yet either.”
The two best friends reached out and high fived each other lazily. They laughed at each other, and Jaejoong smiled to himself as he turned his eyes away from Yoochun to look up idly.
“Does this mean we’re both screwed?” Yoochun said aloud, “I don’t think slacking off on major life decisions is a good thing.”
“Don’t stress about it,” Jaejoong said slowly before his eyes fluttered back shut so that he could enjoy the rest of their lunch break in uninterrupted peace, “We have as much time as we need to figure everything out. We’ll be fine.”

“Where’s Yunho?”
Jaejoong looked up from his textbook and shrugged. He ran a hand through his hair and watched as Changmin placed his things on a desk before he turned his attention elsewhere and took his wallet out of his pocket.
Jaejoong took his bills out and straightened them, determined to do something that would distract him from wondering why Yunho was absent. Although it’d originally been his plan anyway to hang out with Yoochun, he still wanted to know where in the world his boyfriend was. Jaejoong huffed as he fixed the contents of his wallet, but he stopped as soon as he caught sight of the pictures he and Yunho had taken at the mall photo booth a couple of months before.
His eyes went from the first picture of him and Yunho all the way to the last one where they were kissing. A smile crossed his face, and Jaejoong left the picture on his desk so that he could continue looking at it later. When he looked up, he noticed that Changmin had finished fixing his things, so Jaejoong cleared his throat loudly to catch the other student’s attention.
Changmin glanced at Jaejoong and raised an eyebrow.
“What do you want?” Changmin muttered as he pulled out his pack of cookies from inside his bag. He took a bite of one and chewed, “If you have some annoying question to ask me, I prefer you ask it now.”
Jaejoong scowled, “I’m just concerned. Yunho didn’t answer my calls, and he hasn’t replied to my texts.”
“Maybe he forgot his phone?” Changmin offered after he’d finished the last of the cookie that he’d crammed into his mouth. He brushed his hands to get rid of the crumbs before he reached for another, “I forget my phone sometimes. It’s a normal thing. Cut him some slack -”
Jaejoong rolled his eyes and let his chin rest on his palm, “He didn’t tell me that he wouldn’t be going to school today. Do you guys have some sort of -“
“Just because I’m vice president, that doesn’t mean I’m his secretary,” Changmin replied dully as he picked up another chocolate chip cookie. He waved the cookie in Jaejoong’s direction, “I think the fact that you don’t know where he is shows how poor of a boyfriend you are.”
Jaejoong’s mouth fell open, “You asshole!”
Changmin shrugged, “I’m not the one who doesn’t know where his boyfriend is.”
“That’s because you don’t have one!”
The vice president shot Jaejoong an unamused look, “If I had one, I’d know where he was...unlike you.”
“Yunho’s your best friend! You should know where he is,” Jaejoong shot back, “Aren’t you concerned about his safety? Besides, as friends, shouldn’t he be updating you too on what he does -“
The door opened, and Ara stepped in hesitantly. She looked at the two of them and smiled nervously, and Jaejoong immediately slumped in his seat. He was still around for student council meetings seeing as he was part of the volunteer committee, and seeing as the school year was about to come to an end, it was time to plan the graduation ball.
However, what Jaejoong hadn’t counted on was being placed once again in the same committee as Ara. To be honest, he didn’t quite hate her, but he just didn’t want to be near her - after all, it wasn’t like any normal person wanted to be around someone who was known to have feelings for their significant other.
Despite his slight dislike for her, it seemed like the universe was intent to conspire against him and thus constantly placed him in situations which would involve them needing to interact with one another closely. It was a cruel fate, and honestly, Jaejoong wouldn’t have been surprised if it was all Changmin’s fault that he’d somehow ended up in the same committee as Ara with no chance of switching out to another committee.
“I’m just going to pick up some papers from Mr. Kim,” Changmin said aloud after he’d finished his last cookie. He slung his bag over his shoulder and handed Ara a manila envelope, “These are the results of the voting for the graduation ball venue and other issues, so just look through them with Jaejoong, alright? When I come back, we can discuss matters further.”
Ara smiled and took the envelope, “Sure thing.”
Jaejoong caught Changmin’s eyes as he was about to leave the room, and he scowled at the vice president. Changmin merely smirked before he opened the door and shut it behind him. The moment he was gone, Jaejoong shifted uneasily in his seat and looked over at Ara.
They stared at each other blankly until she eventually got up from her seat and made her way over to the chair beside Jaejoong. She moved her desk so that they’d be closer, the only sound in the room was the sound of her chair scraping against the floor tiles.
“Well, Changmin said we should look through these,” Ara said calmly as she took the papers out of the envelope, “It’ll be helpful for us when it comes to booking the venue as well as choosing the graduation ball’s theme.”
Jaejoong nodded slowly but said nothing. He took some of the papers from Ara and skimmed through them, but his mind was entirely elsewhere. There was something bothering him about Yunho’s absence, but he didn’t know what it was exactly.
“Is it okay if I borrow the results for the theme?”
He was torn away from his thoughts, and Jaejoong shuffled the things on his desk before he could hand the paper over to Ara wordlessly. She took the paper from him and smiled at him, but as soon as Jaejoong had completely lifted it off his desk, her eyes immediately averted to something else lyingthere.. Jaejoong noticed that she was distracted, and just as he was about to ask her what was wrong, she reached out and picked something it up off the desk.
Jaejoong froze in horror as soon as he realized she had picked up the picture from the photo booth.
“You two are…”
He was speechless, and in one quick movement, Ara dropped the picture and bolted out of the door. Jaejoong was stunned, and he had realized all too late that he had to run after her and somehow try to explain things to her. He bumped into a desk as he tried to leave, but when he stepped out into the corridor, she was gone.
“Holy fuck,” Jaejoong breathed out, his heart pounding in his chest and his thoughts running wild in his head. He had no idea what he could do to make things better, and the only thing he knew was that he needed to talk to Yunho - maybe Yunho would have some sort of idea on how to deal with things.
He scrambled back to the student council office and grabbed his phone from off his desk. Despite the fact that Yunho hadn’t answered anything yet for most of the day, Jaejoong was determined to try again - he had to. The phone rang and just as Jaejoong was about to give up, Yunho answered.
“Jaejoong, I’m -“
“Fuck, Yunho, we have to talk -“
“I -“
“Please, Yunho,” Jaejoong shook his head and ran a hand through his hair in complete and utter frustration, “I need to talk to you. It’s important, I need to…I don’t know what to say but, we need to talk. Where are you?”
“I just got home -“
“Can we meet halfway then?” Jaejoong questioned, “Let’s meet at the football field near your house, okay?”
“Okay -”
Jaejoong hung up, and he pocketed his phone before he grabbed his stuff and slung his bag over his shoulder. He knocked into Changmin on his way out, but all he could muster was a rushed apology about Ara before he pushed past Changmin and began to make his way to where Yunho would be waiting.

The moment he caught sight of Yunho, Jaejoong stopped in his tracks. Yunho turned around and their eyes met, and Jaejoong could see the stress and anxiety etched onto Yunho’s features. He couldn’t even think of what was running through Yunho’s head at that moment, and Jaejoong ran up to his boyfriend to apologize.
“I’m so sorry,” Jaejoong stammered as soon as they were only a feet apart, “I didn’t think, I’m so sorry -“
A look of confusion etched itself onto Yunho’s handsome features, and he frowned at Jaejoong, “What are you talking about? Why are you apologizing? I should be…I should be the one -”
Jaejoong stopped in his tracks, and he stared at Yunho in equal confusion, “I’m talking about…Ara. I thought you found out…somehow?”
“Found out about what?” Yunho questioned, his voice soft.
Feeling so much more unsure of himself, Jaejoong said nothing for a few seconds before he replied, “I was with her in the student council room,” he explained slowly, the memory still fresh in his mind, “She saw…she saw the pictures of us at the photo booth.”
“Oh -“
Jaejoong’s face contorted into immediate irritation, “What do you mean oh? Aren’t you worried? Aren’t you -“ he stopped speaking, and he stared at Yunho, “Why do I have a feeling that you thought I was talking about something else?”
Yunho was silent, and Jaejoong knew he had guessed correctly. His heart pounded in his chest, and he could feel unease settle in his gut. He looked at Yunho worriedly and waited for an explanation, but when none came, he decided to press his boyfriend for one.
“Yunho…? What…what were you worried about?”
The heavy silence killed Jaejoong, and just as he was about to repeat his question, Yunho finally spoke.
“I’m moving to Japan.”
