I finally got my first tattoo three days ago, and I decided to stay small and simple for my first one. I did have some issues, so I have a few questions under the cut if anyone would mind answering.

Pic and questions! )

punctuation, semicolon

I have 2 tats on my wrist, and the smaller one towards the outside of the wrist, swelled up something awful and didn't take color in the middle of it the first time. But it healed up and when I had it touched up, it now looks totally fine. Don't worry -- if you have a tendency to swell, see how it looks in a week and/or after touch up in 6 weeks or so.

I loooooove it!!! I love semicolons lol and wanted one with untitled but the guy said it wouldn't look good, so I didn't get it!

I've never had any allergic reaction even if I'm a very allergic person!!! I've always been very careful because when using the plastic wrap around the tattoo, I can't use any adhesive tape because it gives me allergic. But luckily I haven't had any problem.

This is very unique. I love it because I am also a semicolon freak. I hate that no one knows how to use them appropriately! Nice choice.

i got a semicolon tattooed on the inside of my finger, and while it looked good at the beginning, it "flaked" off in some places and they didn't take the ink (but only in some places, and it didn't "scab") unfortunately my tattoo artist blamed me and my maintainence, but gave a free touch-up because "when the area is so small, the bleeding on the edges of the tattoo can show, so he didn't go as "deep" as he could have, so that could be why it didn't take." but it happened again after the touch up (but less noticeable, and in different small places....so it looks better and i will just get it re-done by a better artist next time ( ... )

actually, it sounds like the guy you went to did at least know his stuff, in trying to prevent the bleeding - some artists just go right ahead and dig it in and it looks spidery in weeks...

i don't think that he was wrong in a) not going too deep to prevent bleeding or b) his assessment that that might be the case, but he was in a bad mood when he touched it up and he was being pissy in repeating that it might have just been how i took care of it, etc, when that makes no sense as to how/why the spots were random/not in every tattoo (i had three separate in-between fingers pieces done.) and his attitude just left me dissatisfied with him, especially when he ended abruptly by saying "i only ever do one touch up" and next time it would be 45, etc.... which left no room for it being his fault again and gives me no reason to go back if it would be the same, price wise, as me going back to him. it was just a bad experience.

i agree with some of the above comments, i like the look of it the way it is, but i also understand the desire for super crisp text, so hopefully i can help a little.

i have a tattoo on my back that did the exact same thing. it wasn't too noticeable at first, because of the blood/ink residue/etc, but once it healed, it was definitely spotty, and got progressively worse. i also had a tattoo artist blame my skin (i am fairly pale, bruise easily, heal rather slowly...all of the above), but a good artist won't deny you a touch up just because of how your skin reacted. there is nothing "wrong" with you, all skin reacts differently to tattooing ( ... )

I'm glad you said that, because that was one of my worries. I have all of these lines from books planned out as tattoos and this was just a tiny one to start me off. I felt like all my dreams had been crushed because I couldn't get any more haha. Thank you!
