I finally got my first tattoo three days ago, and I decided to stay small and simple for my first one. I did have some issues, so I have a few questions under the cut if anyone would mind answering.

Pic and questions! )

not taking ink and being that swollen may have been an allergic reaction? my skin didn't hold ink and you can get it touched up. the guy who did mine messed up one of the l's and it drives me insane to look at it but no one notices. I love this and you can't even tell unless you point it out!

It looks like you've had a bit of an allergic reaction in that first pic, it could be to something in the ink itself or it could be as simple as the gloves the artist was wearing or the skin cleansing solution etc. If you go back for a touch up observe everything that you skin comes into contact with and if you get another similar reaction you'll have a starting point for working out what is causing it.

I'm curious: what is it about semicolons that people love so much that they want to get it tattooed on themselves?

My husband's tattoo acted about the same way when he first got it. Like someone else said above, it's probably an allergic reaction to something. And any good artist should do a touch up for free, especially if it didn't take in areas. So give it some time to heal completely and go back in for a touch up and it should be fine. If not, like everyone else said it looks great as is.
