So I was reading a reader editorial on BME and it made me think ( Read more... )

I gave the girl at the McDonalds drive-thru navel aftercare directions last week.
Some dipshit told her to use DIAL. WTF. I was like "Wash it once a day with mild soap, I like baby soap, and then LEAVE IT ALONE. DON'T TOUCH IT, DON'T LOOK AT IT, PRETEND IT'S NOT THERE. If it gets irritated or you don't think it's clean enough, use sea salt soaks..."
She was confused because after a week it was still sore... who the hell is piercing these people and not explaining how piercings and aftercare work?

I hear a lot of people (not even just from my area) saying that their piercer told them to use anti-bacterial soap like dial...
So sketch.

And I'm a poor college student that decides that spending my entire paycheck on stuff is a good idea.
No financial foresight whatsoever.
I'm going to make the worst accountant ever.

A short comment, but I just want to say:

1. I totally feel for the first section of your post, because I only have three tattoos and two piercings (one of which, being my septum, exists only to have a retainer flipped up in it. I like it that way); from the outside, I appear to be completely unmodified. People I know who are more heavily modded think I'm a poser, but *I* think that the amount of mods you have does not necessarily reflect how much interest you have in the subject or how much the concept influences your life.

Er. I hope that made sense... I fear I have had too many hard ciders tonight to coherently put together what I really meant!

2. This is in reference to the post you made at BME, *and* it might make me sound a little bit creepy, but here goes! Your hair looks spectacular darker. I mean, you make a wonderful blond. But the brown looks good as well.

No man, not creepy, flattering.
Creepy would be if you knew where I lived and how tall I was and how much I weighed and whether I walked or took a cab to school today.
But, I assume, you don't know that stuff... so we're all good. Thanks!

You're not way off base at all. A bit off kilter, but you're where you're supposed to be for the most part ( ... )

Okay, sorry it took me so long to reply back to your comment. As far as not wanting to jeopardize your future career, believe me I fully understand that. I am going to have no problem removing my facial jewelery when I become a professor. If you're not going to be in your career for awhile then why worry about it? I mean, I've never heard of someone getting denied a job because they had scars on their face. Then again, most people have an aversion to having scars on their face, although it's something that I personally have come to terms with ( ... )

I get a lot of discrimination for my age. People think I'm just trying to be badass or a rebel when they don't understand that I got my first facial piercing (eyebrow) when I was 13. I was in middle school and I had NO friends. I had no one to impress. It was about what I had wanted, not what was cool. It set me aside and I got bitched at endlessly by teachers and stared at a lot. But I didn't even care ( ... )

There is no reason that you should feel ashamed of your mods, nor should you be intimidated by those who have more. Yes, sometimes they have elitist attitudes, and that's pretty shitty. I would *never* look down on someone b/c they didn't have as many piercings or tattoos as I do. The fact is that we are an enormous community that should embrace everyone that enjoys modifiying their body. And you are not alone; I once too felt "undermodified" when in the presence of those who were covered in ink and dripping with stainless steel jewelry. However, it is not about how many you have or how big they are or if people can see them or not ( ... )

Haha, I only skimmed because I'm tired and can't even think really (I have 6 hours at work to do almost nothign tomorrow, you WILL get a long-winded reply later), but one or two things that I don't forget.

I'm stuck between this wierd desire to have my mods more private, but the compulsion to show them off. (Explain more later)
And I love when people are like "You know, I don't think most people could do that... but you look good with three holes in your nose!" But I think that's just because it feeds my vanity. And I do get more of that than, "What the hell is that, and why are there three of them?!"

*he he* That's ok. For all intents and purposes I should feel some sting of sleep but I'm wide fucking awake.

I actually understand that completely. I stopped wearing jewelry in my septum b/c I wanted the piercing to be for myself [well and not being able to find something that sat nicely in it that didn't hang down to my top lip >.<] and I feel the same way about my tattoos. There are times that I don't want to be bothered with questions or whatnot, so I make a point to conceal them under clothing. Other times I want to show them off, so I do ( ... )
