Day 2 - Prompt: write a scene that takes place in a train station
Setting: The unnamed colony latter setting with Thomas et al. Same is 1st 30 day's Saying Hello, Music Therapy, Marketplace, and Called to School.
To the surprise of all of them, including the boy himself, Thomas suddenly darted forward hugging Melissa and Richard. The other two hugging him until he stepped back with blushing cheeks.
"You're both coming right back, just eight weeks, right?"
Richard ruffled his hair and pulled Thomas back into a hug. "Eight weeks and we'll be calling before then. It will be a new semester before you know it."
Melissa knelt down to Thomas's height and tried brushing his hair back in place. "Yep. You'll be back here at the station saying hello to us again before you know it."
Alicia gave her friends a mock glare, "I certainly hope we will. He may be Thomas Kosti now, but you better believe we will both miss you if you don't return."
Thomas nodded, "Going to feel empty without you."
Melissa had only just opened her mouth when the final boarding call came over the speakers. So she gave Thomas a quick hug before standing again.
"Be good, and have fun, we'll be back before you know it." Grabbing her pack before heading for the express cars with Richard. Waving a last time before going through the doors.
Alicia waved with Thomas until the train was out of the station, steadily picking up speed as it disappeared from view. As soon as the last car turned and slipped behind a hill she found Thomas plastered to her side, holding her left hand in both of his.
"Proud of you Thomas." He looked up and she smiled giving his hands a squeeze. "Kept that brave face when they had to go and no whining like some of the kids here. Our place will feel empty for a little while, bu Melissa is right they will be back before we know it. But for now, how about ice cream?"

Note: Not officially Thomas Kosti, yet. I'm pretty sure Alicia's family is well to do (I've decided by now the the place they've been staying is held in a several years already paid lease by Alicia), but even a connected college student probably isn't going to be allowed to adopt quite that quickly. But she's got the confidence to believe it's inevitable the powers that be will see things her way. :)
