Snake had used the fastest method he knew to travel, Lucifer. He had bribed the bastard into doing it because of the baby though it left Snake feeling uneasy that Lucifer was willing to give without pay. Snake stood for a moment in the nearby alley where the angel had left him. He still had the after effects of the bright light from traveling. The splotches of color in his vision were fading but he had enough on his mind that he almost didn't notice.

This was a new place and Plissken took it in stride though he moved slowly. His eye was watching everything as he descended into the bar. He was glad to see Murphy had taken the back booth. He would rather be in the shadows. He didn't say anything at first just walked up and took a seat across from her. He was still distracted by his thoughts about Lucifer and beyond them to the rest of his family. Snake was nervous and anxious. It showed even if he was trying to hide it.

Murphy raised an eyebrow at him and slid the second glass of ale to him. Something wasn't right with Snake. She wasn't exactly sure what caused it but something was definitely wrong.

"You all right?" She asked, studying him critically. "You look like hell."

Snake looked up at the glass and then farther to her. A small smiled cracked into his expression.

Could say that when Lucifer's giving out free gifts and I don't know why.

Snake sipped the ale and smiled. You don't look much better sweetheart.

"Nothing's for free." She said. It made her suspiscious too, but she couldn't offer any good advice so she just shrugged.

"You're such a charmer." She sighed, "It's been a rough couple of days." which was putting it lightly, but really she didn't need to say anything detailed yet.

Yeah that. Snake shrugged. Worth a try. If not he might be interested in learning the little bit I do know.

I am. I still got them but the one is broken. Snake shrugged downing his scotch. I'd offer to show you but you'd probably give me an excuse. Still I could just show you without asking.

"Why don't you ask the Harry you know?" She asked, curious. She knew Snake didn't trust people, but if he knew Harry was a wizard, they should have at least talked.

"I don't think the rest of Mac's patrons would appreciate the show." She looked around the bar pointedly. "Look, you don't have to do something flashy for me. I get it now. No need to change my mind."

I would but it's been a long time since I've seen him.

Snake looked out on the bar. That's the thing about angels. We only let the people see we want to see.

Snake shrugged. I was right about the excuse. When are you going to calm down enough and realize you got a teacher standing here prodding you in the ass to help you out?

"Never too late to catch up." She said. It was hard for her to imagine her life without Harry in it now that she'd gotten so used to him being around.

She sighed, "Snake, thanks, but you've got responsibilities and I have Harry. No offense, really, but it's easier for me to go to him than go to you. You're a little out of my way."

Murphy if I go or tell her to I will ruin anything salvageable in our relationship. Hell she claims abandonment every time someone else becomes part of the family. I'm trapped by this shit and I think she knows it.

Snake nodded. You know what's the worst? The way she acted all upset when my wife went home. She never made an effort to be around her and used to always tell me how much she didn't like her. Every time she acts out about how much she missed Xena it makes e sick. Only worse when she gets indignant with me for being with Bria like I'm hurting her. The disgusting old man she sees in me turns my stomach almost as much as watching her repeat the things she did with Xena all over again.

She sighed, thinking for a moment. "She's a two year old and she's throwing a tantrum it sounds like. She wants things her way and is manipulating everyone to get it. Which doesn't sound much like my definition of hope, but really she needs a crash course on the real world."

"It might be harsh, but sometimes you have to just... just cut people loose sometimes. You'll always welcome her back when she's straightened up and learned how to behave. Maybe she needs a finishing school. Know anyone with the patience of a saint and a firm hand?"

Yeah, try telling her that. Snake chuckled. She does need a dose of real world.

She'll always be welcome as long as I can trust her not to endanger the family.

Woman, don't tempt me. Snake shook his head and grinned. I know someone who could. Hope wouldn't like it at all.

"Maybe it's because I had to face things young, but people like your daughter annoy me when they don't face up to things." She shrugged.

"Oh, I'll keep pushing. Your daughter needs it. Send her there, make her grow up and face it." She smiled, "In the long run, it's better for her and your family."

Talking a magical ward not a district of a city. Snake chuckled. Basically it's a magical block. It can be put up against a number of things. Most often people put it up to prevent magic. Say for example you had a rival that used fire magic. Might think it a good idea to put up a ward against fire magic on your house.

Make sense?

Murphy looked down at her ring, "This must be a ward of some kind since it kept me from getting burned."

Usually a ward is something bigger. Though could be depending on the magic used. Could be a protection spell too. Snake shrugged.

I've got an amulet too that I carry... two really.

"It's something protective, that's all I know for sure." She looked him over, "What are you carrying?"
