SAD

I have been feeling inexplicably depressed lately. I wake up in the morning and feel tired and disoriented. I haven’t gotten to the point where I call out sick from work from feeling depressed, but I don’t look forward to the day. I console myself with the possibility of a nap at lunch time (which I never take, but somehow helps me get out of bed ( Read more... )

Welcome to the club... ext_2136298 October 19 2013, 01:50:32 UTC
It's quite common to experience what I call the post-summer activities blues. For me, the pending 'holidays' can be a time of just wanting to hide. And for us 'creative' and 'expressive' people, it REALLY can be a problem.

Neurochemically, it is theorized that the lower levels of sunlight (as well as it's COLOR!) in some people lower serotonin levels. And lower serotonin levels cause a drop in DOPAMINE levels. We become 'flat' and uninterested.

On suggestion is some good old 5-HTP supplement. Better than St. John's Wort IMHO. Another might be a little bit of 'Velvet Bean' which has natural L-Dopa in it.

All else fails, I suppose scheduled cups of coffee through the day...

Hang in there, it sucks.

Hmm.. Yes. In anticipation of this possibility I've been taking 5htp over the past month or so. I haven't noticed and difference but I have been known to have resistances to various things. I may up the amount or switch to something else.

I'll be planning hikes again and just trying to make sure I still have activities to look forward to. :)

I do try to grab life by the cojones and live as well and fun as I can. But I still have hurdles to get over. There is a certain amount of feeling unfulfilled in various areas of my life ( ... )

Yeah, I don't mean to give you an advice you might have already figured out on your own - but for me, I had to figure out "what am I good at and like doing (that you can actually get paid to do)." For the last few years I thought about trying to go to law school because it seemed like what I "should" do, but at the end of the day I wasn't very excited about it at all.. and I couldn't imagine my spending my free time reading cases/doing all the stuff you have to do to be a good lawyer ( ... )

I couldn't swing BlizzCon, financially or emotionally. Being there but not having a responsibility, not being PART of the event, was too much for me. I already feel slightly bummed each time Blizzard launches a game I'm not part of, even though I am doing something super cool, so I will probably swing by to the dinners and external events to see people, but I couldn't make myself buy a badge for this one.

I guess I'm trying to go cold turkey?

*hugs*

I getcha... I didn't have as many BlizzCons in my life as you though, so my frame of reference is different. Yes, there will prolly be parts where I feel bored or whatever because I don't have something specific to do, like at Faire the year I didn't have a job other than helping MooNiE and Broon sell t-shirts.

I will be happy to see my friends, and hit up the after parties though. I have homies I met last BlizzCon that are coming out from the midwest and we gonna dance the night away. :)

I think secretly I hope I will find a niche again, and something cool to re-apply for haha... who knows?

Yeah, I worked every BlizzCon. It'd be so weird to not be able to duck in early to the hall in order to get to my shift or whatever.

I hope you find something, Blizzard is a good home for you!
