i'm going to have to say that my favorite memory is probably the Christmas that we all spent at my grandmother's.
Grandma's house was an old two story that had four bedrooms, a dining room, one bathroom, a big kitchen and a small living room. her living room had two chairs, a couch, an entertainment center and very little floor space. at the time, mom's two youngest sisters and her youngest brother were still living at home. so between them and my grandparents, there were the three bedrooms upstairs. mom and dad got the small one downstairs. me and my brothers slept on the floor or the couch.
since Grandma's house was small, she always had a table top tree. three feet high or something like that. she usually set it on an end table between the two chairs. and this year, not only were we there to share Christmas with her, but all of mom's siblings were there, too. mom's the oldest of seven: three sisters and three brothers. one of her sisters lived about ten miles away, so she drove into town with her family and then went home with them. two of her brothers lived in the cities like we did, so they had to drive up. and everyone brought gifts.
there was a walkway between the couch and the gifts that was just wide enough for one person to use. it went from the entry into the living room to the door that led out into the hall where the stairs were. i think i was about seven or eight, so you know how awesome i thought this Christmas was.
it was warm and cozy in Grandma's house. i got to be with all of the family members i loved most during one of my most favorite times of year. i love winter and snow and this was the end all be all for me.
sadly, there will be no more Christmases like that. both of my mom's parents are gone. daddy's gone. it kind of sucks that i didn't get to do that with spawn when he was younger.
