Is the Kenet from Robin McKinley's book, "The Hero and the Crown"? It's been forever since I've read it, but I do remember a fair amount of dragon-slaying. ♥

Also, my soul belongs to this fic, but you probably could have guessed that. :D

yes! it's my favourite favourite favourite book ever!

and here's your cookie/random scene that found no home in the chapters:

“Now, now! You can’t kill me in front of Sakura-hime! Right? Isn’t there some sort of ninja code of conduct against that?”

“Ninjas don’t hide behind women’s skirts!”

“Good thing I’m not a ninja then!”

“Do you ever wonder if Mokona can hear every word we say?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Like right now. Mokona isn’t here. We’re not actually speaking the same language. But we can understand each other because it’s translated through Mokona. So does Mokona hear everything we say?”

Kurogane blinked. “Well, now I’m thinking about it. Thanks.”

“I’ve considered asking him, but I’m not sure I want to know.”

Kurogane raised an eyebrow. “‘Him’?”

Fai shrugged. “I’m not really sure. It seems rude to ask and ‘it’ is so impersonal. But Mokona seems boyish to me. A very girly kind of boyish. So, ‘he’.”

“I’ll stick with ‘it’.”

“You would.” Fai said lightly.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing at all, Kuro-honey.” Fai stretched up and gave the ninja a kiss on the cheek.

“Don’t do that.”

Fai smiled. “It’s not as if Mokona can see everything we do ( ... )

This chapter is lovely. I was wondering how this would develop into a KuroFai relationship with Kurogane so stubborn and suspicious in the beginning short of some really drastic event but I'm happy and appeased to see their development slowly bloom. Very nice.

The details are adorable. I do see Fai being absolutely disasterous with meat (we never did see him cook anything other than desserts) and I love how you established him in Japan. He seems utterly in his element, which I'm sure Fai is very good at, since he's so at ease in any situation.

And Kurogane getting so manipulated by Fai's passive aggression is amusing, even more so when he knows he's being manipulated but falls for it anyway.

Love this fic! Will be looking for future updates.
