While I'm not giving up on the writing thing (I've even signed up for NaNoEdMo because I'm insane) I am also well aware that being a mommy is going to be taking up the lion's share of my time and energy for the foreseeable future.

What kind of pads do you use? I can't recommend the cloth kind highly enough; mine are way more comfortable than the disposable kind ever were (for one thing, there's none of that godawful glue). I won't say they're a joy to wear when you don't need them, but most of the time I really don't notice they're there. About the only time they ever bother me is when I'm wearing a bike, but then again that can suck pretty bad with disposable pads, too. Anyway: I use both Lunapads and Gladrags. The former are a little bulkier but that means they fit my big granny-style underpants the best; I've only used the smaller daytime size of the latter but their nighttime size pads look pretty good too. Also, Lunapads come in leopard print, which is pretty much the coolest thing ever.

I love my Gladrags, yes I do, esp. the nighttime one. I have to say though, once when I was camping out of desperation from my unprepared state, I used a hiking sock turned inside out. They surpass anything at wicking, and I like them best for heavy flow days or spotty days. I find an entire sock too bulky in the day so I cut a pair at the heel and now have four ex-hikingsock pads which are enough for me. :-)

You are way hardcore. I haven't gotten around to making my own pads because I'm happy with the ones I've got, but Lunapads do happen to be made out of fleece for its absorbent properties and hmm. I guess I know what to do with old hiking clothes the next time I admit something's finally fallen victim to wear and tear!

Thanks a lot for sharing this. I'll admit, I have a lot of anxiety about the things you mention, and going back to work, and a billion other things (what if I can't breast-feed?!). But it helps to read your experiences.

I'm intrigued by the love at first sight thing. I don't think I get it, yet.
