My heart just burst a little when I saw your tag reading Walter Blythe.
I have a lump in my throat just thinking about him, dear Koala. I had a huge crush on him, and I still cry buckets when I get to "And so - goodnight." *sob*
I don't mind the long quote. It's been a while since I read it. And it's absolutely heartbreaking! Poor Una. Poor Rilla. Why did Walter have to die????
I kind of regret bringing up Rilla of Ingleside now because I'm reliving the agony I felt when I finished reading Rilla.
That's it? It's over? What happened next? I ran around madly looking up every single book by LM Montgomery I could find to see if there was any mention of Kenneth and Rilla. Nothing.
Kind of like after Gone With The Wind I suppose. And THEN what happened??? Tell me!!! :)
Wow, you sure do have many opinions, and I can't help but find myself agreeing with them.
I think I was too entranced by Rob's good looks to really think about the way he had interpreted Cedric's character... and now that you've mentioned it, he did a great job, but as you said you don't imagine him when you're writing/reading Cedric.
It's for this reason that my fics are about Book Cedric not Film Cedric. This doesn't mean I don't like Film Cedric. I like him very well - it's just he's not the one I see when I write my fics. I have always regarded Cedric as being quite quiet, modest and not flashy at all. He's smart, a really good student, top of his class, a prefect and head of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team.
It's true, that Pattinson did seem to incorporate his own temperament into Cedric's character. Personally, the scene where he's with (as grrliz quotes) "Puff Minions" and Harry comes up to warn him about the dragons, I don't think the book!Cedric would have smiled at his friends about them laughing at Harry... it didn't seem a very

*laugh* I think everyone has many opinions, but for the most part they remain as unvocalised Thought Bubbles.
Often I'll say something and a friend will say: "Did you really say that?"
I'll usually say sadly: "No.. it was just a thought bubble but I wish I had said it though!!" :) LJ is a great place for vocalising those thought bubbles. :)
Personally, the scene where he's with (as grrliz quotes) "Puff Minions" and Harry comes up to warn him about the dragons, I don't think the book!Cedric would have smiled at his friends about them laughing at Harry... it didn't seem a very Cedric thing to do. But there are always going to be book/film discrepancies.I agree with you - that was probably the scene that stuck out in my head the most - also him lying on a Hufflepuff guy's knee was kind of a weird Logan Echolls thing to do designed to send Slash Writers into a slathering frenzy. :) That aisde, that moment made him seem quite laddish and blokey. His portrayal wasn't so anti-Cedric as to make me

Part 2, kind of like a sequel ;)koalathebearDecember 29 2005, 08:32:59 UTC
Now, when I picture Hermione she looks NOTHING like Emma Watson. Don't get me wrong, Emma's a promising young actress, but I don't think her portrayal is as good as I would have hoped for. But anyway, we're not here to talk about her. lol
Well first of all you're free to discuss whatever you like, disgress and digress as much as you like. ;) I always do - and ramble on on and on .... I think there's only one 'rule' on my LJ as such and that's 'be nice'. No need to stay on topic and there aren't really many sacred cow topics either. As to Hermione/Emma Watson - to put it frankly, I don't think any actress could have portrayed Hermione as I imagined her so I had somewhat low expectations. I didn't like movies 1 and 2 very much, 3 was all right and 4 I loved but she was such a sweet, wee little thing in Philosoher's Stone and as I think I've had time to 'grow' up with Emma's portrayal, it's also grown up on me.

Hermione is very much my favourite character - she's bossy, judgmental, impatient, flawed, outspoken and sometimes socially clueless but she's intelligent, has the hugest heart in the world, is compassionate and is fiercely loyal. She possesses the qualities that I most value in people.
Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE Hermione's character, too. She's one of my favourites (after Harry, because he's my first!). I see myself in her sometimes, and can relate to her impatience!
And about Amos -- that is true, that his crying (a father's terrible loss) was contrasted greatly against the shadows of the other students. It probably worked better that way, actually. It makes it a hell of a lot more heart-breaking, too... Wow, the whole row was crying? Aww... I feel embarrassed crying but I do anyway!
I'm glad that you write Cedric/Hermione, it's given me so much inspiration to write my own (I'm progressing slowly through mine, it's currently at 2313 words) and the way they're presented within all your stories is so real. So I thank you for
I have never given too much thought to that, honestly. I think I use both Cedrics... in the looks I probably picture Robert but in the way he acts and talks I focus in book Cedric, because as you say, Robert's Cedric isn't as nice or as good as he should be. Robert's Cedric likes to show off a bit, think I don't think book Cedric would do.
I actually agree with you there... I tend to see Robert's looks but I just picture my own version of Cedric for his temperament, which is different to the way Robert portrayed him.
On a side note, I would have liked to see Cedric being Crucio'd by Krum... I don't know why... but it might have made that maze scene much more tense and powerful.
what is wrong with robert pattinson's protrayal of cedric diggory. ok so he maky have made cedric diggory a little thougher then he really is in the book but it is good.
and looks wise there isnt anything wrong. he has the built and the hair, dirty blonde is still pretty much dark haired if you look at it. comparing dark and light. dark hair doesnt necessarily mean black. in fact when i first read goblet of fire, i thought that he would have dark blonde or maybe even brown hair. but definately not black.
i still love the way robert portrays cedric diggory. and i'll always rmb him as cedric diggory. he did a good job at that. the off screen robert pattinson looks nothing like the on screen pattinson when he's acting as cedric. he pulls the boyish charms and qualities cedric's supposed to have well..
i may be biased i dont know. cos i love cedric diggory and the way robert pattinson portrays the role.
I think if you re-read my post you'll see that I'm not criticising Robert Pattinson's portrayal of Cedric or even his selection. He brought many good things to it. I'm merely clarifying what the Cedric that I visualise when I write my fics is. I also wanted to clarify that I write Book Cedric and not Film Cedric. For me, Cedric is not a 'tough' guy, or a swaggering guy who seeks attention, he's always been very quiet, self-contained and self-assured.
All of us have a different mental picture of our favourite characters. Rowling gives us a lot of scope when she says his hair is 'dark'. When I read it, I read that as 'very brown bordering on black' or even 'black'. Others can read it to be blond, dark blond or dirty blond or even purple if that's what they want. I'm not really fussed, I was merely setting out what my image was. Each to their own and tha's why in my fics, I continue to use the word 'dark' - therefore everyone can continue to imagine whatever hair colour they like. :)
