Part 2, kind of like a sequel ;)koalathebearDecember 29 2005, 08:32:59 UTC
Now, when I picture Hermione she looks NOTHING like Emma Watson. Don't get me wrong, Emma's a promising young actress, but I don't think her portrayal is as good as I would have hoped for. But anyway, we're not here to talk about her. lol
Well first of all you're free to discuss whatever you like, disgress and digress as much as you like. ;) I always do - and ramble on on and on .... I think there's only one 'rule' on my LJ as such and that's 'be nice'. No need to stay on topic and there aren't really many sacred cow topics either. As to Hermione/Emma Watson - to put it frankly, I don't think any actress could have portrayed Hermione as I imagined her so I had somewhat low expectations. I didn't like movies 1 and 2 very much, 3 was all right and 4 I loved but she was such a sweet, wee little thing in Philosoher's Stone and as I think I've had time to 'grow' up with Emma's portrayal, it's also grown up on me.
Hermione is very much my favourite character - she's bossy, judgmental, impatient, flawed, outspoken and sometimes socially clueless but she's intelligent, has the hugest heart in the world, is compassionate and is fiercely loyal. She possesses the qualities that I most value in people.
Book!Cedric has quiet confidence and modesty, and somehow film!Cedric wasn't exactly like that. I really would love to see the deleted scenes on the DVD because I've heard that Katie Leung (Cho) and Robert had more scenes together but they were cut... I'm wondering if his portrayal was perhaps, more like book!Cedric in these scenes.
I cannot wait until the dvd comes out and if Rowling hadn't changed Cho's character between Book 3 and Books 4 and 5, I probably would have been a rabid Cho/Cedric shipper as I have to love them showing a Chinese girl in a book/on screen and NOT making a huge deal of her ethnicity.
I've seen the movie four times now and I cry everytime it reaches that scene. And I cried when I read "The Boy Who Died", too. (On a side note, I was a little disappointed with the crowd after Cedric's death. In the book there were screams, whispers, footsteps and girls were crying. In the movie they were just staring with forlorn looks on their faces, and it was only Amos Diggory who was in hysterics. It annoyed me.)
I agree but for what it's worth, in a way that made Amos Diggory's pain all the more poignant - emphasised. It might have been a deliberate choice to mute everyone else's reactions so that Amos' pain could really been seen. As I mentioned in my review - everyone in my row was crying when Amos was! It was really very startling.
Anyway, thanks for posting. Given that you are one of the people who (I think) has react every single one of my Cedric/Hermione fics, I like the idea that even though my mind's image might not be exactly the same as yours, the stories still work for you. :)

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE Hermione's character, too. She's one of my favourites (after Harry, because he's my first!). I see myself in her sometimes, and can relate to her impatience!
And about Amos -- that is true, that his crying (a father's terrible loss) was contrasted greatly against the shadows of the other students. It probably worked better that way, actually. It makes it a hell of a lot more heart-breaking, too... Wow, the whole row was crying? Aww... I feel embarrassed crying but I do anyway!
I'm glad that you write Cedric/Hermione, it's given me so much inspiration to write my own (I'm progressing slowly through mine, it's currently at 2313 words) and the way they're presented within all your stories is so real. So I thank you for that!
