Rewarding day

Cards
After BMT, I was on cardiology rotation and it was really good. Very busy as there was a lot of turnover. Patients are admitted during the night and the next day, they're going home. So I was constantly learning about new patients well enough to present to the attending and then writing discharge summaries the same day. The attendings and fellows ( Read more... ) -
Code
Walked right into a code today. It's a patient I don't know and night float intern was telling me a little about how she got hypoxic/not getting in enough oxygen. I needed to relieve the night intern and so I just asked him to go. Waited around until Pulmonary critical care team arrived and when they did, they started gowning up and wearing a mask ( Read more... ) -
Last impressions
So, I'm on Bone Marrow Transplant service now. We do take care of transplant patients but we also take care of those with malignant heme or also called blood cancers. I had been taking care of this one patient for just 2 days and last night, she got a huge hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in her head) and was intubated. They terminally extubated her ( Read more... ) -

This was awhile ago but that night, I had to go see a patient in the ER. He was extremely hard of hearing so I had to yell very loud right next to his ear. So I yelled all of my gazillion questions. Going through the review of systems, I finally came to Genitalurinary section ( Read more... ) -
Baaaaad night
So I'm on nights on Neurology for a week. Last night was my second to last night and it was bad. I guess it was this morning. So while on nights, I do cross-cover, meaning the teams leave their service pagers with me and I'm responsible for all the patients. Nurses page me for anything and everything. Second month
Never thought this will happen cuz I'm such a stress eater but I lost 12lbs in a little over 4 weeks. That's how stressful it has been. There has just been no time to eat much less do anything else.
I'll write in details more when I can later.. Just a quick update that things are better cuz I'm on a different service now.

First week of residency
I knew residency was going to be hard but I didn't know it was going to be this hard. This past week was abysmal.

Auction
I went to my first auction today! At my new place. They auctioned off all of the guy's stuff and things went super cheap! And I bought so much stuff, it's not even funny! It was so tempting to bid on everything but I held myself back. Went all out on the furniture cuz they're nice ones and the advantage of buying now in addition to it being cheap ( Read more... )
