Now that Joe has started orientation, I'm riding my bike to work/school. Tennessee is so much hillier than I'm used to. We don't live that far from Vanderbilt, but the hills really do me in. Nashville streets are better designed for bikers, and the drivers, at least in our part of town, are a lot more used to seeing bikers than people in Houston ( Read more... ) -

I'm back and married, which is a crazy feeling. We had the best honeymoon I could've imagined in the Dominican Republic. My wedding day was the happiest, most perfect day of my life.

My cat Jellybean died yesterday. I had given her back over to my parents, and we thought putting her back on the thyroid medication might help, but my dad found her yesterday. At least we didn't have to make the decision to put her down, but we really thought she was doing better. She would have been 14 in September. She was the first cat that Joe ( Read more... ) -

Unfortunately, life doesn't really stop when you're getting married in a week. All of the flat tires (my mom's), unplanned-for surgeries (my brother's), and broken lawnmowers (mine) still happen. 10 days out, and it has hit me that I'm planning a real wedding and that it's mine and that it will be over in 10 days. There are only about 10 million minute details that I have to remember between now and then. There has also been a lot of drama surrounding the rehearsal dinner and Joe's parents and grandmother. We've been here almost three weeks and haven't turned on the air conditioner. Even the majority of government employees are nice. I've rediscovered the outdoors. Joe took me to the Smoky Mountains, and we hiked on the Appalachian Trial to a 1000-foot sheer drop called Charlie's Bunion. We were the only ones out there on that crop of stone. It is so incredibly green and lovely here. I keep pinching myself because this is my home now, my neighborhood, my front porch swing. Joe and I both agree that we feel like we're staying in a B&B: the clawfoot tub, the hardwood floors, the gas stove, etc. But that's our art on the walls and our furniture. I just want to say that, in between the Jeremiah Wright "scandal" and Pope Benedict's visit, I'm really glad that religion has been in the news lately. I think that, when it is talked about often, it makes it less of a taboo subject, and maybe we can begin to have real conversations, which ideally would lead to understandings and partnerships ( Read more... )
