10 days out, and it has hit me that I'm planning a real wedding and that it's mine and that it will be over in 10 days. There are only about 10 million minute details that I have to remember between now and then. There has also been a lot of drama surrounding the rehearsal dinner and Joe's parents and grandmother. I told my mother about six months ago that, when I imagined my wedding, I always imagined my family being the difficult one. Thank goodness they aren't. Hopefully it will be so much fun that people will forget their grievances for a few days and just have fun. I certainly can't handle being told off because we don't have assigned seating/a receiving line/bouquet toss/whatever.
Joe and I had my dad over on Saturday for fajitas since my mom was out of town. He brought lots of wine for us to try to decide on for the reception. I think we're going to go with an Italian white and a Spanish Grenache. The fajitas were delicious, and it was fun entertaining, even if it was just my dad. Joe and I have done well with cooking at home. Of course, it's a lot easier when neither of us are working. Last night I made a dal-inspired dish with lentils, cauliflower, broccoli, and celery on a bed of brown rice. I didn't expect Joe to like it that much, but there wasn't even enough left for leftovers!
I'm currently trying to grow some basil and chives. I stopped by our reception venue on Saturday, and there was a farmers' market going on outside where I almost bought a pot of cilantro. When we went to get our marriage license, I bought a quart of Amish strawberries from a guy in a beat-up pickup truck who called me "little lady". The strawberries were fantastic.
We also discovered via Google Earth that Ben Folds has a house within walking distance.
