(no subject)

I just want to say that, in between the Jeremiah Wright "scandal" and Pope Benedict's visit, I'm really glad that religion has been in the news lately. I think that, when it is talked about often, it makes it less of a taboo subject, and maybe we can begin to have real conversations, which ideally would lead to understandings and partnerships.

I've noticed this in my own life. When Joe tells people about me and how I'm going to be a priest, the topic of religion isn't as much of a social faux pas. On his most recent rotation, he spent a fair amount of down time talking with the attending about what Presbyterians believe vs. what Episcopalians believe. I think it is so healthy to have respectful conversations like this.

In other news, I'm off to Nashville this weekend for wedding planning and bishop-meeting. I've missed my parents, and my dad noticed in our last conversation when I referred to "home" as where they live. I am also a big weenie because our cats have been at Joe's friend's house since she is taking care of them, and I miss them SO MUCH. Jellybean, the 13 year-old Maine Coon, is a little sick and on three medications. She has a heart murmur (due to hyperthyroidism), a bladder infection, and her liver and galbladder enzyme levels were abnormal. Poor baby.
