It is not a new story, but it has taken on more complex and urgent qualities. In the wake of the financial crisis and the continued erosion of American power, it seems more and more common to discuss why and how those happened and too often the conversation ends in cynical despair and defeatism. Hey! So, I have a few comments. Yay!
1) As for your friends having children: was it perhaps a matter of biology and not desire? Did they set out to have children, or did she get pregnant by accident?

2) Children WILL NOT cure everything. Point in case: a mother who was a meth addict made her 19 month old overdose on meth when she breast fed him.

3) I used to be passionate. I used to want to participate and change the world. I used to believe I could. The older I get, the more I realize that it doesn't matter on a large scale. Eventually, all that mattered was living within the bounds of what I feel is good and right. Watch "The Edukators."

1. To the best of my knowledge, each pregnancy was a conscious effort.

2. You missed my sarcasm. Reread it.

3. You are passionate; otherwise, why be vegan? Why go to school? You may not have the conventional passions (career, house,family, etc) but you have some within you.
