I watch things?

*glances around* This is turning into a bit of a meme thingy... Ahem. I've been thinking about how certain shows instantly create fandoms and some shows don't. Is it the slash factor? *g* Also, I've been musing a lot about how I watch a lot of things, but am very rarely moved enough to write for them. What has it got to be, I wonder, to make me ( Read more... )

fascinating, not writing, personal log, talk to me

I don't really watch a lot of TV... movies I own a shite load of... but not really interested in TV. Several friends on my f-list are into XMFC (Don't get me started on how much I hate that movie.) and H50... which I just... I don't get it. The men are... OK and the same goes for the acting. Which isn't enough for me to get into a series. (I hated the original H50 series as well ( ... )

LOL. I like BBT every now and then, it's funny and witty and the quotes are precious. But I can't watch watch it. An ep or two every once in a while is fun, though. :D

I like the secrete circle too. Not sure why. The only other show that comes to mind where i would be tempted to write fanfic in is Sherlock. Moviewise maybe Thor since i like loki...

I adore Sherlock, but I couldn't write for it. Something's not doing it for me writing-wise.

I like Loki, too, though probably more in general than from that movie in particular... ;)

I watched the first two episodes of Once Upon a Time and just couldn't hack the cheese. I think I was hoping for something more, something gritty? I mean, if you're brining fairy tales to the 21st century then I want some serious effort. Not sure I can be bothered to watch more.

The Secret Circle? Seriously? Wow. That... really brings back memories of being 15. I devoured that series like a BOSS. You ever read the books? It always did have obscenely beautiful people in it. Just watched the first episode and it's causing some major flash-backs -- though this Cassie has more or a spine, believe it or not. And the TV series seems to be missing some characters from their circle. /nerd

Lastly: Watch Fringe!!!!!! Season One is kind of rubbish (they hadn't found their feet at all yet) so either keep a very open mind or just wiki S1 and start watching at S2. It's bloody amazing. I'm even slashing the het canon pair, would you believe?!

P.S. Got your email and am putting a few things together. Hope it helps you out... :S

I don't know what I was hoping for with Once Upon a Time, but clearly it was missing, whatever it was. This is reassuring though, I thought I was the only one not seeing it.

I haven't read the Secret Circle books, nor was I in any way familiar with this verse, so I have no ground for comparison. It just amuses me for some reason. Maybe because some of the characters there remind me of people I know from somewhere (completely unrelated) and it's all a bit hilarious. :D

I tried watching Fringe. I watched the pilot and en ep or two after that, but I just couldn't get into it. It seemed a bit... boring. /o\ Don't hit me. Just really, the extent of my thoughts was 'Huh?' But if you say it gets better, maybe I should give it another go...

:) Can't wait. :)

You're definitely not the only one not seeing the appeal. *high-fives*

Finished watching all nine episodes (thus far) of The Secret Circle. It's cute and very teen supernatural drama and I'll probably watch the rest when it comes out, but I'm not in love or anything. The series went waaaaaaaay off from canon, doing it's own thing, which I think works better anyway. *shrug*

Oh bb, please don't give up on Fringe. Like I said above, S1 is really really pants. I didn't like Olivia that much and everything was kind of disjointed and WTF? inducing (I couldn't get behind the pseudo-science of the show, it wasn't believable and I didn't really see where they were going with any of it). BUT! Because I have nothing better to do, I persevered and boy was I paid back in full. I started liking Olivia (her back story makes her more human) and the world suddenly because a place I could believe in. The plot got complicated/intricate/exciting and just bloody watchable. Would it make you happier to know that Leonard Nimoy is in it, being his badass ( ... )

LOL. It wouldn't make me happier, but perhaps a bit more intrigued. ;)

I think it's totally fascinating how some shows/movies inspire an explosive amount of fanfic and general fandomness and others don't. I honestly don't have much of a clue myself - whenever I can think of a "rule of thumb" thing that they might have in common, I can usually think of at least one good counter example. For example, for myself personally the shows that inspire me are ones with fantastic script writing and good acting. But obviously there are counter examples to that which get other people excited - like the newer Star Wars movies (*shudder ( ... )

Hm. I think my story with Battlestar Galactica was much the same as yours with Merlin, except I did quit watching sooner, because it was putting me to sleep. Maybe I should give it another go. Hm...

Sorry, comment hijacking, but I just couldn't help myself: because it was putting me to sleep

Oh man. Judging you so hard. I can't imagine a show less likely to put someone to sleep than BSG. The first and second season are so action packed it's hard to catch your breath. The world and the characters are phenomenal. I'd go so far as to say Battlestar Galactica is one of the best TV series ever made.

I totally freaked when I saw Gaius Baltar in Merlin talking to... Gaius. :P

Mm. In retrospect that might have been Stargate I was thinking about... *can't be assed to run away so just ducks for cover*

But hey, I managed to keep my mouth shut when lulabel said the first 5 eps of Merlin were boring. Don't I get points for that? :D

LOL. You're a star. :D

Yes, I think my problem with XMFC is exactly that I'm not big on comic books in general. For me, they never really graduate from being kids' stories. I watch them happily for the sheer entertainment factor, but that's it.

BBT is very amusing, but I can only watch it occasionally, when i'm in a mood for a laugh. It's good though. ;)

Aw, bb. I did watch Sherlock (loved it), and I do watch Doctor Who (it's on hiatus now, though). But thanks for the adlib anyway. ;)
When I made this post I was talking about new things I watch. Sherlock and DW are old friends. ;)

Babylon 5! It was airing here when I was in school and I was such a fangirl! :DDD Aw, good memories. XD

I love AMY!!!

well i read comics when i was a teenager, same thing with the xmen cartoons but you can't forget the thing you loved, like Batman, nop i can't. I didn't read a lot of comics by then mostly Batman, and xmen, i watch more cartoon thou as a child i watched a lot of boys cartoons and anime (robot and mecha anime, and cartoon with superheroes, mutants and spiderman) i never was too girly about such a things i love my dolls because i made stories with them, but i hate girls stories in cartoons or anime because it was like soap operas for little girls and i hate soap operas even now. I loved and love Science fiction and fantasy.

That's why i was in comics until i reach college then only manga more mature manga, supernatural, mythological, or very artistic ones, and obviously always books.

LOL. I like Amy too. She's my second-favorite companion after Donna. :D

I don't think comics were ever a huge part of this country's cultural background. All pictures books were probably like all desserts thing... :D
