Do you think that people wouldn't be so quick to judge Xion and call her a "Sue" if she was a boy? (Of course in that case it'd be "Stu", but whatever)
Haha, I think I was just reading the post that inspired this.
I would, honestly. I'm not a big fan about how keyblades seem to be getting thrown around like confetti lately, for one, and for two ... I don't know! It just smacks of the whole "My character is the fourteenth member of the Organization and REALLY AWESOME, GUYS, LOOK HOW AWESOME SHE/HE IS," except now in canon.
I don't they would as much or as willingly, but some still would, probably. I know there would already be people out there shipping him with Axel and Roxas. Characters don't need names to be shipped, just dicks. (See: Final Fantasy XIII Versus)
IF WERE A BOOOOOOOY.....princealiaDecember 25 2008, 06:26:32 UTC
I think what's happening is people are reading the facts, seeing she's a Sue (cause, I mean, really she is XD), and believing she's going to act like one in a typical fashion that is associated with Sues. It's possible to be a character that sets off a billion Stu/Sue tests and still be good, though, which I think people are forgetting. See: Sora. She could be bad, she could be good, it's just too early to tell.
But as far as caring if she was a boy in this situation, probably not as much if she were, but I think the character would still raise some eyebrows. Mine would be raised either way because really--where the fuck did all this come from? I'm not even concerned about the Sue part. Her existance is bothing me as far as the games go because it looks like she's coming out of no where and I'm just suppose to take it like she's been influential this whole time. What.
I have very little information on the game. I can't say for a fact if she's a sue or not.
But I do know that I would be extremely judgmental regarding a pretty and sparkly extra Organization member with such influence on the game who came out of virtually nowhere, regardless of their genderI find it unfortunate how easily some members of fandom disregard the opinions of others through accusations of fandom misogyny. Yes, fandom can be harsher on female characters than male characters, but not every opinion about a female character is founded in that character's gender. Even if there is a pattern of shippers hating on a character who sinks their ship, not everyone who dislikes that character is a shipper, etc. I think a person is entitled to share their opinion on a character without someone jumping to conclusions about the source of that opinion, and trying to force that conclusion on the person sharing the opinion, or anyone else who might hold it
( ... )
i.e. nobody complains about Ven being a literal clone of Roxas down to his clothes for whatever reason, but when Xion looks a little bit like Kairi, oh, it is on.
Well, to be fair, I was just complaining to a friend on aim exactly that about Ven. xD
Maybe the complaint isn't as widespread, but it's not fair to say that it's not out there. BBS isn't yet receiving as much attention on the sites as 358/2, I think when there's more news on it more people might begin remarking about it.
