Ohhh... tell about the Saturday night drumming? Do you need your own drum or be at a certain level at all? Where is it?

it's specifically oriented to yoruba spirituality, so it's certainly not for everyone. but you don't need your own drum or be at a certain level. I wish I could get off my fearful little ass and just GO. I always seem to find excuses not to, even though I really want to. :(

Do you mind if i do some research on this type of spirituality and if it meshes - i'd be happy to be a motivator with you :)

I have ADD actually. I find eating fish helps. Ritalin made me kind of zombie like, but super logical... so I stopped taking it. Now I find that, besides being easily distracted, symptoms are pretty much nill - as long as I eat fish regularly.

Oh and also - I think that if I'd had some kind of training as a child, like in Aikido, Tai Chi, or something like that - calming, but active, I would probably have been much better than I am now.

fish is SO good for the body! (as long as you're not ODing on bottom-feeders [yay, heavy metals!] or fish that tend to accumulate a lot of mercury). Salmon, tuna, and mackerel are best because they contain the highest levels of Omega 3 fatty acids, which is what people with ADD benefit most from, as far as EFAs.

L LOVES sushi, especially salmon sushi. We should eat more fish here. N doesn't like it AT ALL, so I think our fish-eating habits have declined noticeably since the three of us moved in together. Must remedy this.

And disciplined activities like martial arts, tai chi and yoga are good for everyone, but definitely beneficial for ADDers. You make excellent points. :)

I eat salmon, kipper, and tuna mostly. Omega 3's are my friend. :) And yeah, if only my parents had put me into one of those activies early. :)

i went to see a capoeira roda

This is a what, please?

drumming on saturday nights

Ooooooo.......

personally, i think much of the symptoms that fall under ADD could be circumscribed by proper nutrition (no sugar, namely) and attachment parenting

Not sure what you mean by the latter, but i agree absolutely with the former. Here's the thing, though; if a kid reacts to sugar by becoming hyper...s/he's got reactive hypoglycemia, and needs to be on a gluten-free, sweetener-free diet.

I wish my brother would get this. He's so gung-ho to find a magic bullet that will make everything make sense that he refuses to accept that if he doesn't stop smoking, drinking, and downing so much caffeine, he's not going to really feel better or stop waking up with headaches every morning...

magine what the world would be like if we all felt completely secure in ourselves while growing up. what kind of world would we live in?I can't imagine it. It's beyond anything i've ever known. It's like a dream, and i can't trust dreams....But it's the ( ... )

Capoeira (Brazilian martial art developped during the time of slavery by the slaves)

A roda is the circle in which capoeira is done, also the event itself.

The drumming I referred to is specifically Yoruba-oriented. The drumming learned is more or less drummed deity calls, different ones for different deities.

With respect to sugar reactions, if someone reacts with hyperactivity to sugar, then yes, they have reactive hypoglycemia. However, even if they don't react with hyperactivity, there could be other effects that adversely affect the child. Sugar depresses the immune system and creates fear and anxiety. None of these conditions necessarily make a child hyper, but they DO affect their behaviour. And if kept ON sugar, they can become hypoglycemic. There's sugar in BABY FOOD for fuck's sake!! NO kid needs that.

With respect to attachment parenting, if a child is fully/securely emotionally attached to his/her parent/s, then there is no insecurity, no anxiety, no fear that s/he will be abandoned by the parent/s. The child fully ( ... )

Agreed. We went baby food shopping, just idly, with B and her baby when we were in MD in April. She said she would never buy baby food unless it was organic, and most of it she said she'd just make herself anyway. The only stuff she said she would buy would be carrots, because carrots apparently require so much of cooking/straining/recooking/restraining to avoid some chemical/compound/enzyme/protein/toxin that it's just safer to buy the food and be sure its been done right. She's got all these plans on how to make her own baby food, mostly from the books she's been reading....supplied to her by our other foster sister, L. B would have even gone for cloth diapers except that her baby ended up with godawful diaper rash because the cloth just doesn't keep her dry enough.

Didja know, btw, that TO actually will accept diapers in the green bin? *grin* 'Bout time.

This is why I think people should be more aware of what it is they're doing when they have children. ( ... )

I knew about the diapers & the green bin long, long ago. Yeah, it's about fucking time. I plan on cloth diapers and EC, but it's good to know that if plans go awry, the disposables wouldn't be filling up the landfill ( ... )
