PAIN

That morning, Ruki’s cellphone ringed. Ruki tried to open his eyes, but he still felt too sleepy to answer it. Beside him, someone grunted.

“Shut that thing off…” said the man.

Ruki hated to hear it. He didn’t want to hear the grunt nor the ringing. He needed more sleep after the wild night he got through with Tora. They made love twice, and he just wanted to sleep all day long today. But if he didn’t answer it, the ring won’t stop. He could have just turned his cellphone off, but he’s not that type of person. It might be important, right? In the end, he picked up his cellphone and looked to the screen: Kai’s name.

“It’s from Kai, Tora…” Ruki said to the person who slept beside him. Yes, Tora didn’t go out of the town. He’s not going anywhere; he’s there in Ruki’s apartment, all the time.

“Ignore it…” Tora said with his sleepy voice.

“But why didn’t he call you instead?”

“I left my cellphone in his apartment…”

“What!?” Ruki was surprised. “Now I know why I didn’t see your cellphone since yesterday.” They kept talking and just ignored the ringing.

“The battery was out and I just didn’t have time to recharge it. I just wanted to get here as soon as I can…”

“You’re stupid…” Ruki sighed. At last, he pressed the button on his cellphone and answered the call. “Yes, Kai?”

“Hi, there, Pretty… have you already wear anything right now?”

“Enough, Kai. You want to talk with Tora?”

“Oh, you know me very well, Pretty…” Kai chuckled.

Ruki gave his cellphone to Tora. “Kai want to speak with you…”

“Tell him to call me later…”

“It might be important, Tora…”

It looked like Kai could hear Tora’s voice. The next thing Kai said to Tora made Tora snapped his eyes open: “It’s about Aoi and Reita, Tora…”

Tora took Ruki’s cellphone and put it on his ear. He sat up and started to speak. “What’s going on?”

At his apartment, Aoi prepared himself before he went to campus. He looked at his appearance on the mirror. Aoi fixed his shirt’s collar. That time, a shine thing around his neck caught Aoi’s glance. He opened his collar a bit to see it: it’s the necklace that Reita bought for him yesterday.

Aoi remembered every single thing happened with Reita last Sunday. He also remembered Reita’s words that surprised him oh-so-many times. Aoi smiled when he recalled yesterday’s event. Slowly, Aoi traced the silver strand around his neck.

Tora won’t be there in campus today. Aoi didn’t have to worry about anything. He didn’t have to hide the necklace. He’ll do that tomorrow. Aoi won’t wear it. He’ll keep it in a save place inside his apartment, inside his bedroom, inside his cupboard or maybe somewhere else so Tora wouldn’t find it. If Tora founds out about the necklace, Aoi would be in a big trouble.

Aoi took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly. Once again, he smiled at his own reflection on the mirror. Aoi then took his sling bag and walked out from his apartment.

When he reached the campus, Aoi was about to enter his class when Kai came and met him. “Good morning, Beautiful,” Kai greeted him.

Aoi was surprised when he saw Tora’s cousin near his class. For him, Kai appearance never gave him good omen. There’s something that made Kai showed himself in front of Aoi. Whatever it was, Kai could always made Aoi trembled.

“Kai… what’s wrong..?” Aoi asked slowly.

“Hey, you won’t answer my greetings first?”

Aoi clucked. “Good morning, Kai. What makes you here?” Aoi asked without courtesy.

“Hei, what’s the rush? What? You have a very tight schedule today? Your class will start sooner? Or any schedule change for today? Did Tora already know about that? You know that Tora didn’t like it when you’re being secreti-”

“No, Kai,” Aoi denied it quickly. “My class will start at its exact schedule, I’m not in a rush, I just want to know what are you doing here, ‘cause as far as I know, your class is not in this area.”

Kai chuckled. “You still don’t like to chit-chat, do you, Aoi?”

“I never like to chit-chat with you, Kai.”

Kai smiled. “Good, then. I’m here to deliver some message for you.”

“From?” Aoi asked suspiciously.

“Who else?” Kai smiled.

Aoi took a deep breath. He tried to control his breathe which started to get shaky. “Why didn’t he call me directly?”

“I don’t know,” Kai answered as he scratched the back of his head. “Maybe he was busy. Moreover, what should I know?”

“You’re his cousin, Kai. You often spent the time with him.”

“Not really…” Kai smiled again.

“So, what should I know now?”

“Tora is waiting for you.” Kai’s answer was such a big shock to Aoi.

“Wh-when..!?” Aoi asked in panic.

“Tora is such a nice man, Aoi. He let you take your entire class today. You can meet him after that.”

“T-today..!?” Aoi asked in disbelieve.

“Yeah. Why? Something wrong? Kai smirked.

“T-Tora is already home?”

“I think so,” Kai said lazily.

“When did he get home?” Aoi didn’t want Tora to found out what he’s done yesterday.

“I don’t know, Aoi. I’m not his mother. Why did you ask me, by the way? You’re his lover, right?”

“Tora didn’t say anything to me.”

“You never tried to call him?”

“His cellphone was never active, Kai…”

“Oh, really? Since when?”

“Since he went to out of the town - wherever it is - last Saturday, Kai.”

Kai looked as he was a little confused with Aoi’s statement. After few moments, Kai laughed. “Oh, yeah. You’re right. Tora’s cellphone was still in my place.”

“What!?” Aoi didn’t believe with what he heard. “Tora left the town without taking his cellphone with him?”

“Sort of. Tora is still human, right, Aoi? It’s a natural thing if sometimes he forgot about some things.”

Aoi snorted. “Yeah. And it looks like I deserve to die if one day I forget to take my cellphone with me.”

“That’s natural too, right?”

“What..!?”

“You need some supervision. It’s natural if Tora got mad when you didn’t bring your cellphone with you, whatever the reason is.”

Aoi opened his mouth. He tried to argue it out. Aoi closed his mouth for he knew that arguing Kai would only put him in vain. Kai always has the way to defend his cousin and there’s nothing Aoi could do about it.

“By the way, you don’t have to be worry, Aoi. I’m the one who will take you to Tora’s place,” Kai said as he turned his back on Aoi and started to walk away. “See you later, Aoi…”

“Kai!” Aoi called. Kai stopped and looked back to Aoi. “What does Tora want to talk about with me?” Aoi asked cautiously.

Kai shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe some things that usually discussed by someone to his lover?” Kai said as he chuckled. “Moreover, why should I know? Don’t be ridiculous… I’m going!” Kai said as he waved at Aoi and walked away.

Aoi’s heart was beating fast. Everything about Tora now never made him calm. That was the time when Aoi realized, how did he agree to be Tora’s lover? What did he saw from Tora actually? Aoi shook his head. He entered his class and saw Reita sat at the usual seat.

Reita looked at Aoi and smiled. Aoi tried to reciprocate the smile. Again, Reita could easily catch the fake smile. Reita waited until Aoi took his seat. This time, Aoi sat in front of Reita. That was one hint that Aoi was having a problem. Aoi never wanted to sit beside Reita if he didn’t want Tora to finds something out.

Tora. Reita couldn’t take his mind off of that fierce guy. Reita leaned his body forward to get closer to Aoi’s position. “Something wrong?”

“Tora was already home…”

Aoi’s answer made Reita shocked. “What..!?” Reita tried to lower his voice. “When?” Aoi shook his head. “Mm… will he be in campus today?” Aoi shook his head again. “Did he ask you to meet him?” This time, Aoi nodded. “When?”

“After today’s class is over…”

“In his apartment?” Reita asked him again. Slowly, Aoi nodded. Reita know that Aoi was really scared that time. Reita patted Aoi’s shoulder. “Aoi, are you alright?”

Aoi fell silent for a moment before he answered, “I don’t know…”

That was the last thing Reita heard from Aoi that day. At every break, Aoi always avoided Reita. Aoi went to some place Reita didn’t know. Every time Reita searched for Aoi - and he found him - Reita would always see Aoi was being with someone he didn’t know. Reita was never aware that THAT someone is Tora’s cousin, Kai.

“Who’s that guy? There’s definitely something wrong here…” Reita said to himself.

That day’s class was finally over. Aoi walked out of the classroom without saying anything to anyone. Reita didn’t like that. He didn’t like it more when he heard someone in the class talked about Aoi.

“Look at that. I used to saw Aoi as a very interesting person. But since he’s dating with madman called Tora, Aoi’s behavior was getting weirder and weirder.”

Reita passed the person and tried not to listening. He didn’t even say anything when Uruha caught up with him. Reita kept looking at Aoi who walked even farther. Reita saw that person again, the one that dominated Aoi this whole day. The person smiled at Aoi before he reached Aoi’s hand and pulled Aoi to walk with him. That time, Reita observe the person that pulled Aoi. Something from that person made Reita thought deeply. Without realized it, Reita stopped his step. Uruha turned around and looked at Reita.

“What’s up, Rei?”

“That guy…” Reita said as he kept looking at THE person.

Uruha looked at the person that Reita meant. “THAT person? Tora’s cousin? What’s wrong with him?”

“It’s like… I’ve seen him before… I don’t know where…”

“He’s one of this campus’ student too, Reita. It’s obvious if you’ve seen him before.”

“No, not here…” Reita disproved it.

“Ok. You can try to remember it as we get to Sumire. Don’t forget your shift, Rei,” Uruha said as he pulled Reita and made him start to walk again.

Aoi and Kai reached Tora’s apartment. Kai pressed the bell’s button and waited there. Not long, Tora opened the door. He smiled when he saw Aoi.

“Hey, Darling,” Tora said as he pulled Aoi into his embrace. “I miss you…”

Aoi tried to smile. “Me too…”

“That’s so sweet,” Tora smiled. Then he looked at Kai. “Kai, thank you for bring Aoi here.”

“No problem. I’m happy to see you happy, Tora,” Kai said with a smile. “Call me if you need me!” Kai waved his hand.

“I will!” Tora said. Tora then pulled Aoi into his apartment and closed the door. Aoi could saw it when Tora locked the door. “Take a seat…”

Aoi nodded. He walked to the living room. Aoi stopped himself when he saw something on the table at the center of the room. Tora turned on his notebook. There, in the notebook, Aoi could see slide show that displayed few photos. The photos were about him and Reita. There was a lot of it. Aoi could see the background when they were at the front of the station, inside the movie theater, and there were even the photo when they’re in front of the shop where Reita bought the necklace for him.

Aoi was in a big shock. He couldn’t take his eyes from Tora’s notebook. Not even when he asked, “H-how did you get those photos, Tora?”

“You’re not the one who should ask that question, Aoi,” Tora said with a smile.

Aoi looked at Tora. “Tora, I-”

A very hard slap came to Aoi’s face. Aoi was shocked for that slap. He was shocked, and he was hurt. Tora’s hand made a red mark pretty fast and it left a sore feeling on Aoi’s cheek.

“You enjoyed your time with Reita, Aoi?” Tora asked.

Aoi was holding his cheek as he looked at Tora. “Tora, I’m so sorry. I-”

Tora slapped Aoi once more. Aoi couldn’t hold his balance and fell to the floor. Aoi forgot about his sling bag that he brought with him all the time. The sling bag became the barrier to the floor as Aoi fell.

“I’m not asking for your apology, Aoi,” Tora said. “I’m asking you, did you enjoy your time with Reita, yesterday, Aoi-baby?”

Drop by drop Aoi’s tears began to flow. His horror increased for he knew that the slaps would not be the last thing Tora would do to him. Aoi was scared. So, very, scared. He wanted to run away from that place. He didn’t want Tora to torture him again. Aoi didn’t want to feel the pain again. But Aoi couldn’t do it. Tora grabbed Aoi’s hair and pulled it hard. Aoi had to stand to lessen the pain Tora caused to him.

“Tora! Forgive me! Tora!” Aoi screamed as he held Tora’s hands, tried to make Tora let go off of his hair.

But Tora just tighten his grip. “You didn’t answer my question yet, Aoi!”

“No!” Aoi answered quickly. “I… I didn’t enjoy it!”

“Liar!” Tora pushed Aoi hard and made Aoi fell onto the sofa near him. “You’re lying, Aoi. If you didn’t enjoy it, then why did you kept smiling in every-single-photo there!?” Tora pulled Aoi’s collar and nearly choke him.

“W-we’re just-” Aoi couldn’t finish his words when Tora squeezed his collar and choking him now.

“Answer.”

“Tora… i-it hurts…”

“Answer!” Tora yelled as he squeezed Aoi’s collar even more.

Aoi had no other choice. If Aoi didn’t answer it, Tora would keep choking him and it would hurt him more. In the end, painstakingly, Aoi answered the question. “W-we’re just watching movie, Tora…”

“JUST watching movie!?” Tora yelled in disbelieve as he let Aoi’s collar go. “Why didn’t you tell me about your watching-movie-agenda with your affair, Aoi?”

Aoi rubbed his neck. “He’s not my affa-”

“Don’t argue with me, Aoi. Just answer it!” Tora yelled again when he pulled Aoi’s collar harder. This time, Tora’s grip made Aoi’s topmost button snapped. Tora halted himself and looked at Aoi’s chest. Aoi’s necklace steal Tora’s glance. “What necklace is that?” Tora asked.

Aoi was shocked and fell silent. He really forgot about his necklace. Now Tora was already founds out about it and there’s nothing Aoi could do to hide it. “I… b-bought it yesterday…” Aoi lied.

“In that foul shop?” Tora asked. Aoi nodded nervously. “Good…” Tora said as he smiled. “Very good. Where’s the hook?” Tora put his arm around Aoi’s neck as he rubbed the silver strands.

“To-Tora… please… don’t. I beg you!”

Tora didn’t care about it. He took off the necklace after he found the hook. Tora slammed the necklace to the floor. The wing-pendant was broken and the hook was damaged.

“Stand up!” Tora yelled as he pulled Aoi’s collar once again.

Aoi nearly fell when Tora pulled him hard and he lost his balance. Aoi followed Tora when Tora pulled him to his bedroom.

“You’re happy enough yesterday, Aoi,” Tora opened his bedroom door. Tora pulled Aoi to his bed and pushed Aoi hard until Aoi fell onto it. Aoi didn’t have the time to think when Tora pulled his hair again. “Now it’s time for you to feel what I felt when I knew you could be that happy when you’re with someone else other than me… especially with Reita…” Tora took a grip of Aoi’s collar with both of his hands. Tora pulled Aoi’s shirt open until all of the buttons snapped off.

“Tora..! Don’t..! Please, don’t! I beg you!!” Aoi was scared to death. He knew exactly what would Tora do after this.

“You’re so happy yesterday, Aoi.” Tora opened his jeans button and lowered the zipper. “Now, it’s time for you to share your happiness with me. Make me happy… Aoi…”

Tora pulled Aoi’s hair again. Aoi couldn’t fight it. He could only cry. Aoi was pretty sure that tomorrow he won’t be able to go to campus. After this, Tora would screw him; bad.
