"The Other Side" Chap. 5
Siwon stood in the same spot for a full minute, staring at a spot of mud on one of his Ferragamos, before pulling his handkerchief out from his breast pocket and crouching down to clean the offending spot. He then kicked at Kangin’s prone form still lying unconscious in the alley where Minho had dropped him.

“Good help is just so hard to find.” Siwon said with a sigh.

He then turned, moved three paces and stepped into the wind.

Jinki wandered into the kitchen late at night, restless. The light from the fridge spilled into the dark room as he opened it looking for something to eat. With a sigh he scratched his arm, lamenting that Taemin truly was going to eat him out of house and home eventually. Glancing at the clock it read 1am. The 24 hour market down the street should have what he would need to satisfy his chicken craving and enough for breakfast for the two of them in the morning. As he shrugged a jacket over his oversized t-shirt and loose fitting pants, he realized that Taemin’s boots were gone.

Where could he be at this hour on a weeknight?

Jinki shrugged having giving up long ago trying to figure out exactly what Taemin did for  living, and why it required such strange hours and the need to travel so often. The night air felt great on Jinki’s skin when he paused to lean against the side of his building for a moment. As a cool breeze wisped through his hair he took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Head tilted skyward, he made a silent promise to himself to get out from behind his computer screen more.  He opened his eyes to a brilliant full moon and a very quiet street. Pushing off the wall, he walked towards Mr. Cho’s store, the bright green awning shining like a beacon in the distance a few blocks away.

Kangin woke up in the alley alone with a splitting headache. As he recalled the events of that evening, he knew that Siwon was going to punish him severely for his ineffectiveness. He shivered as he recalled his last punishment: he was chained down to a concrete slab with heavy silver for 24 hours unable to move or breathe without feeling searing pain all over his body. His skin would regenerate only to be burned again by the silver laden restraints moments later.

As he got to his feet he caught the scent of a human. And a young one at that. He smiled as he finished dusting off his clothes and stood up casually.

Master did say that it’s always good to replenish one’s energy with a good meal after a fight.

Kangin’s smile dropped when his gaze locked onto a series of ancient carvings adorning the conical tip of a brilliant silver arrow at the end of a crossbow. He shifted his focus to see one of most beautiful eyes he’d ever seen, the rest of the small face obscured by red hair. The features of this human were angular yet soft, almost female, but he could tell by the scent that the boy was decidedly male.

He smirked.

“You’ve been watching too many movies, baby boy. Silver won’t kill me.”

Kangin could have sworn he saw light dancing around the ends of the arrow the instant before it flew through his shoulder, throwing him with force and pinning him to the opposite brick wall as red dust flew into his face.

“FUCK!” the vampire spat.

No, it wouldn’t kill him, but goddammit if it didn’t hurt like hell.

The boy moved with the grace of a dancer as he slowly walked towards Kangin, looking him up and down as if searching for something. Finding it, his eyes narrowed as he pulled a long silver blade from it’s sheath on his thigh. When the boy came near, Kangin used his free hand to reach for the boys throat, but dibilitating pain shot though his pinned arm stunting his range of motion. The boy easily pushed his arm away and slapped him. In the instant that Kangin was stunned he felt searing pain down his other arm before it went numb.

The boy stabbed his other shoulder into the wall with the knife.

The vampire yelled a string of obscenities in the old tongue before leveling his gaze at the boy.

“You IMBECILE! I told you silver won’t kill me. I’ll just regenerate, and find you..”

Kangin growled as he used most of his strength to push off of the wall pulling the both the arrow and the knife through his burning flesh as he advanced towards the hunter.

“…I was going to let you live. Now I’ll use this very knife to flay the skin from your body, and listen while you scream for me.” Kangin snarled.

The vampire was confused as to why the boy didn’t seem to be the least bit scared or why he was still walking towards him. The boy ran both hands up his chest puling open his oxford collar so forcefully he popped a button, to glance at the marking on his neck.

“So you’re a Choi.” Was all he said. Kangin could do nothing but nod.

He was so close Kangin could have kissed him if he wanted to and if the boy wasn’t trying to kill him, he’d want to. He had to admit this close, the boy looked beautiful, he smelled delicious. Full lips, empty gaze, virile strength, just like Minho had when he was young, before he was turned. In another time and place, Kangin would have turned him so that the boy could be his.

Kangin was snapped out of his reverie when an almost imperceptible thin line of silver wire glinted in the moonlight beneath the boy’s nose.

Jinki couldn’t breathe. One moment he was walking to the store, the next he was slammed against a brick wall with the wind knocked out of him. As he struggled for air, familiar long fingers wrapped around his neck.

“Mmmmm. You smell so good Jinki. You have no idea how intoxicating you are.”

Jinki struggled to see his attacker, but they pushed his head sideways, cheek pressed to cool brick as he hyperventilated.

“P-Please. I don’t have much money, but I’ll g-give you w-whatever you want.”  His heart was beating so strong and so fast he could feel it vibrating his ribcage.

“Oh I know Jinki. I know.”

Instantly Jinki felt the most excruciating pain he’d ever felt shoot through his neck and right down his spine like he’d been electrocuted. When the hand pressing his face to the side slid down to his collar bone to hold him in place, he tried to struggle, to pull away, to breathe, to do something. Spots swam before his eyes as he glanced down at the profile of his attacker. The familiar jawline, the short black hair, all seemed so familiar…

Minho?

Taemin climbed the trapped vampire like a tree, wrapped both legs around his waist and using the space the he’d had created between him and the wall for leverage as he wound the wire around the vampire’s neck and pulled.

Hard.

The head separated from the body with a horrible gurgling, snapping sound, and Taemin had just enough time to turn his face away before he was doused with arterial spray. In one motion he jumped down and pulled both his arrow and his dagger from the body watching it fall before it dispersed into ash.

“Regenerate that.” Taemin spat.

He pulled his sleeve down over his hand then up across his face, only succeeding in smearing more blood onto his crimson stained cheek. He had wiped the blade clean and was returning it to its sheath when he heard a choked sound come from behind him to his right.

“Holy fuck.”

In a split second, Taemin had pulled his gun from his thigh holster, released the safety, cocked it and pointed it in the direction of the sound. That was before he turned his head to see who he was aiming at. What he saw when his eyes refocused in the harsh light cast by the neon sign of Keys, was the bar’s namesake standing in the doorway, lowering a shotgun that had obviously been pointed in his direction. From previous recon he knew that the bartender was a shifter, not a vamp. And right now, they weren’t a threat.

But he had seen his face.

“You’re a hunter.”

Taemin knew how he must have looked. Blood spatter on one side of his face and down his neck, black leather jacket, tight black skinnies, dagger at his hip, a pure silver bloody arrow in one hand, and a .45 Desert Eagle pointed at the man in the other. Folded crossbow and quiver slung across his back.

Shit.

He answered by holstering the gun as he quickly ran back down the alley, not even slowing down, he spun and grabbed up his big black backpack from beside a dumpster.

Key’s hand was shaking when he felt soft, familiar fur rub against it. He looked over to see Jjong in his Lychan form staring at him knowingly. A tear that Key didn’t realize he was holding back escaped his cheek as his breath hitched in his throat.

“Find him.” He choked out.

Jjong leaned in and nuzzled Key’s neck reassuringly, then scampered off down the alley after Minho’s scent.

______________________________

Jinki’s elbow collided with something as he literally fought his way back to consciousness.

“Get off me! Get off me! STOP!”

“JINKI WAKE UP!!”

Taemin yelled into Jinki’s ear. He’d practically tore the door down to the apartment trying to get back in when he’d heard Jinki screaming. Since then, he’d been trying to wake Jinki from some type of horrible night terror he was having and was struggling since Jinki mistook Taemin for his nightmare attacker. Jinki had been bucking and screaming, flopping around the bed like a fish out of water gasping for air. Taemin had rolled them both off of the bed before Jinki gave himself a concussion on the sharp edge of the nightstand, but not before being punched in the nose for his efforts. The younger Lee was now sitting astride his cousin on the bedroom floor, blood dripping from his nose onto Jinki’s pyjamas, full body weight on his kicking legs and forcing Jinki’s wrists to cross each other over his chest in an effort to keep his flailing wreck of a cousin from hurting either one of them.

Jinki stop it! You’re having a dream! Wake up!

Jinki’s eyes suddenly snapped open and Taemin could tell he wasn’t all there, so he kept talking him back into conscious reality.

“Come on Jinx, that’s it. You were having a dream. Wake up. That’s it.”  Taemin cooed.

“Taemin?” Jinki said quietly, blinking rapidly, his voice raspy and choked from all the screaming and crying.  He was suddenly aware of a weight holding his legs down and that his arms were restrained and began to panic again. Wriggling and struggling out of Taemins’ grasp, his voice ragged and short as he tried to regain himself from Taemin’s effective, yet temporary hold.

“OK. OK. I was just trying to keep you from hurting yourself..or me again.” Taemin said letting off and waving his hands at him in surrender. Exhausted he rolled off of Jinki to lay on the floor beside him. Chest heaving with the effort.

Jinki sat up and instantly grabbed for his throat. Vision clearing, he looked around, taking in the state of disarray that his room was in and the trickle of blood that was seeping from his cousin’s nose.

“It was a bad one huh?”  Jinki asked, kind of stating the obvious.

“You could say that, yeah.” Taemin said throwing an arm over his eyes, trying to rest and not fully succumb to the sleep pulling at the edges of his consciousness.

He still had to shower.

“Oh my God Taemin!”

Sensing alarm, Taemin sat straight up off the floor, hair falling in his face as he looked around.

“What?”

Jinki looked horrified.

“Did I do that?” Jinki first pointed to his nose, and then his eyebrows disappeared into his hairline as his eyes widened in guilt and fear. He began pawing at Taemin, trying to open his shirt to see…oh.

Taemin completely forgot that he was covered in vampire blood. He jumped up waving his arms around defensively.

“No! No Jinki, you know how bad head wounds bleed, it’s just my nose, I’ll be fine..” Taemin was out of the room and down the hall headed for the bathroom so fast, Jinki almost missed which way he went when he ran out of the room after him.

“Yeah, but your shirt. That’s so much blood, I’m so sorry! I didn’t realize…”

Taemin stuck his head out of the bathroom door, now shirtless with a large white towel wrapped around his head, neck, shoulders and chest. In trying to conceal his bloody visage, he merely succeeded in looking like a terrycloth nun.

“It’s fine Jinki, why don’t you make us some tea while I clean up and you can tell me about your dream ok?”

Jinki still looked distraught as he thought for a moment, but his face softened when he nodded in response and padded back down the hall to the kitchen.

Taemin put both hands on the cool pale blue tile of the shower and watched as rivulets of red washed down the drain.

“It’s getting worse.” Taemin whispered into the water.

“What am I going to do with you Jinki?”
A/N: So in case you're confused, Jinki never left the house, he had a vision, or a very vivid night terror, and he's obviously had them before. Taemin's a badass lil vamp killer, and after Key sees what he's capable of he's sufficiently freaked out and rightly so because he knows that Minho's in danger, that Jonghyun will do anything to protect him, and he himself had seen the vamp killer's face. So, yeah their lil freaky family is in danger. Siwon, is a very old, very bad vampire that was around when Minho was made, and it's actually a good thing Taemin killed Kangin, cuz Siwon would have tortured him to death (or had one of his minions do it). Thanks for reading! Comments are love!
Taemin’s arsenal:

.45 Desert Eagle Long Colt w/Shotgun load (this is a ridiculously huge handgun)

Glaive

Tibetan Spirit Dagger

Folding Crossbow w/silver tipped arrows

Taemin's Outfit (minus the trench):

(yes that's Hawkeye from the Avengers, check the folding crossbow!)
