"The Other Side Chap. 4"
“Something’s not right.”
Minho felt it too. The moment they had stepped out of Keys he felt a surge of heat straight up his spine, and a vaguely familiar tingling sensation at the back of his neck. He didn’t know what Jjong felt, but he definitely looked spooked. Jjong’s eyes narrowed to slits, and his breathing had picked up. He unconsciously rolled his shoulders as if he was shrugging off a jacket, widening his stance a bit, hands curling into fists, nose upturned, sniffing the air.
“You hear that?” Jonghyun said staring down the alley without looking at Minho.
Minho listened for a moment, closing his eyes and opening up his heightened senses. He gasped as as he realized he could hear absolutely nothing.
No car alarms, no bums fighting, no music blaring, no cats meowing, no dogs barking, no people yelling, no birds chirping, no footsteps, not even a cricket. The only sound audible to him was the electric buzzing of the streetlamp at the end of the alley, and Jonghyun’s accelerated heart rate. It was as if time itself had stopped, bathing the entire area in unnatural silence. The air was thick with tension and heat. It could only mean one thing.
A vampire was near. A strong one.
No sooner had the thought slipped into Minho’s consciousness when it was interrupted by the sound of tearing fabric and a sharp intake of breath as Jonghyun shivered and then fell forward in a dead faint. By the time he hit the ground however, his hands and feet were large paws, claws scraping the pavement and his body was covered in soft mottled brown fur. A deep growl that Minho could actually feel through the thick leather soles of his shoes vibrated up through Jonghyun’s fully transformed body as he bared Lychan fangs into the darkness of the alley.
Minho heard the bullet releasing into the chamber split seconds before it was fired and in an instant the vampire and the werewolf jumped away from each other onto opposite walls of the alley. Jonghyun ran along the wall perpendicular to the ground towards the attacker, while Minho flew up to the highest fire escape for a better view.
Minho was annoyed that he couldn’t identify the vamp, he should have been able to feel him. At least way before Jjong. Watching the figure slip from the shadows, Minho could just make out the body of a well-built man in a fitted leather jacket. He wore matching leather pants as well, well-defined muscles pulling the fabric taught across each leg, and across a broad back, where the man was now pulling another gun from a second holster. Minho’s eyes widened as he recognized the red insignia on the right epaulet of the jacket.
It was the mark of the Clancy, the warrior class of his coven.
Jonghyun lunged left, then right, bounding off of the brick wall using all 200 pounds of body mass to thrust forward, aiming to swipe the head right off of the vampire shooting at him. Just as his paw grabbed at the man’s short strands of ink black hair, the vampire disappeared. Only to appear a second later 20 feet down the alley from his original position, whirling around, letting go of another round of gunfire his combat boots kicked up dirt as he skidded across the pavement. Jonghyun didn’t know what type of rounds were flying at him, he could regenerate from most small arms fire, but the bullets whizzing through his mane looked big and left brun marks on his skin when they grazed him.
Silver-mercury bullets.
Suddenly, there were two guns. Well that’s not fair. Knowing it was nearly impossible to aim and shoot at a moving target as fast as himself, with a grunt, Jjong pushed off of his back paws and bounded straight for the leather-clad vampire in a zigzag fashion. The man steadily let off round after round at Jonghyun but every bullet fell just short of its intended target. Jonghyun picked up speed as he rounded on the vamp and at the last moment he jumped at the wall close to the man’s right, who instinctually shielded himself by turning his body away from the werewolf, still firing one of the weapons at him.
Perfect.
The man howled as his the gun was ripped from his hands along with three of his fingers.
Minho was about to jump down from his perch and offer backup when he caught sight of his friend’s furry face. Even from the fire escape Minho could see Jonghyun’s bared fangs as he landed in front of the man on all fours, ears laying flat back against his head. The werewolf’s eyes had turned from chocolate brown to glassy yellow and even from a distance he could smell the adrenaline coursing through his friend’s veins.
When Jonghyun went feral he tended to lose control. In this state it was nearly impossible to control his animal nature.
The smell of blood sluggishly oozing from the vampire’s severed appendages shot straight through Jonghyun’s body. It had been ages since he’d fed and although vampire’s rotten flesh wasn’t as tasty as humans, the scent still lit the carnal desire within him like a recovering alcoholic strolling through a bar during happy hour. Jonghyun’s vision tunneled and his periphery blurred as he surrendered himself to the beast within. He was so riled up he didn’t feel the bullet that grazed his eyebrow, but he did feel the one that went straight through his right paw, lodging in the ground under it.
Jonghyun’s own yelp of pain and the sound of a weapon firing above his head brought him back to reality a moment later. The vamp was airborne now, flying over him, firing straight down at him with his one good hand and cradling the other against his chest. At this range, the should have been able to do more damage, but the werewolf could smell fear and pain pouring off the vamp in waves.
Minho wondered for a moment, why the vamp was focusing only on Jonghyun. The man must have seen him with him moments before he started firing. He also knew that the warrior Jonghyun was fighting was elite class. Minho was torn from his thoughts when he heard Jonghyun howl in pain, but when he looked down into the alley, it was empty.
That’s when he felt him.
“Hello Minho.”
Jonghyun didn’t even feel the pain in his paw anymore he was running so fast. He didn’t know where he was going or how long it took to get there, his purpose in life had been narrowed down to this one moment. Kill this bloodsucker. All he saw were flashes of black leather and red before his eyes as he chased the vamp through the city streets at inhuman speeds too fast for the human eye to comprehend. He used buildings, lamp posts and the occassional bus as leverage for vaulting points from which to launch himself, closing the distance between him and his prey. The vampire was running top speed away from the area towards the docks, but fatigue was setting in. He would have to stop soon to regenerate his lost digits. Jonghyun knew it. Yet and still, this vamp was fast.
But Jonghyun was faster.
Minho instinctually jumped away from the voice and consequently off of the fire escape, flying back down into the alley as he sensed not one but two more vamps approaching. One from above and one at the end of the alley.
As he stood up Minho heard the distinct “click” of a safety being released in his ear and the feel of cold steel against his temple. He saw another pair of black combat boots next to him. More elite guard.
Fuck.
Looking at the ground the second vamp stepped from the shadows, and if Minho hadn’t recognized the vampire’s expensive Ferragamos barely obscured by the edges of his white duster, then the sudden glint of the alabaster handle of the gun he was holding gave him away as it shone like a beacon in the moonlight.
It had belonged to his maker.
“Siwon,” Minho spat.
“It’s been awhile son.” Was the soft, low response.
Just as Jonghyun had suspected, the vamp was running out of steam. He could tell because the kick that landed in his chest was not nearly as strong as the swings the man had given back in the alley. Jonghyun crowded the vamp allowing himself to get hit again and again. Literally being born the runt of the litter, Jonghyun knew how to take a punch. He waited until the vampire had kicked him to the ground and leaned in close to gloat to lunge for the man’s jugular.
The vamps body had stopped shaking awhile ago, but Jonghyun was lockjawed in his feral state and couldn’t let go if he wanted to. Being a vamp and all he separated the head from the body and watched as the limbs turned to ash. As Jonghyun’s human consciousness began to reawaken he realized that he was clear across town at the city’s imits. With a sigh, he shook the ash from his fur, tested his weight on his injured paw for a moment and then took off back towards Keys.
They separated us. Minho thought.
“Yes, my boy. Divide and conquer, I always say.” Siwon said with a chuckle. His short black hair shone in the moonlight as he lowered the pearl-handled revolver. Minho could still make out the deep scar that ran diagonally above the older vamp’s right eyebrow, and peeked out from under the right lens of his Ray Bans onto his cheek.
“Kangin. Please, let the boy stand.” The guard named Kangin backed up a bit, but never lowered his weapon.
“I do believe it’s time you started looking for a new guard dog.” Siwon said, till holding the pearl handled revolver. Minho’s smirk dropped as he thought of Jonghyun howling in pain. Where are you little guy? Come on.
“Oh. I sent Joon, one of my best to take care of your little bitch. So that we could-“
Siwon hadn’t finished speaking before the werewolf in question appeared out of nowhere, jumping over Minho, knocking Siwon to the ground and growling in his face. Blood still fresh on his tongue, the only thing keeping him from taking a chunk out of the old vamp’s neck was Minho’s voice screaming.
“Jonghyun! Jonghyun, no!” Minho yelled repeatedly. Kangin was confused, he kept swinging his gun from the werewolf to Minho and back again. Annoyed by his ministrations Minho finally just plucked the weapon from the distracted vamp’s hand and pistol whipped him with it in the temple until he dropped to pavement out cold.
Jonghyun was also confused. These were the vampires that had just tried to kill him and appeared to be directing the same fate at Minho.
Why the hell is he protecting this one?
Jonghyun fought with his baser instincts to just hold the vamp down with his body weight and not rip out the man’s throat. Saliva dripped from his bottom fangs onto Siwon’s cheek who tried to wrench away in disgust. Only managing to release his own fangs. Siwon hissed as Jonghyun growled.
“Runt, I know you can hear me. Come on.” Minho said soothingly, using his pet name for Jonghyun both to protect his identity and to force him to remember it. Minho had rounded the hissing pair and crouched down to eye level, looking at Jjong sideways, baring his neck at him in a gesture of surrender. It worked, as Mihno saw the yellow orbs release their hold and Jonghyun’s bright brown eyes came back into focus.
“Hey buddy, wait for me at the other end ok? I won’t be long. Just trust me.” Minho backed up as the wolf tentatively removed it’s claws from the vampire’s throat, never looking away from him once. He growled at Minho as he brushed past him almost knocking him over in a display of displeasure.
Siwon stood up slowly, looking for both his sunglasses and his gun as he brushed off his white coat. “You don’t deserve to touch this…Siwon” Minho snarled, gesturing with the revolver now in his hand. He held Kangin’s gun in the other.
Minho could just make out the three parallel bloody tears in Siwon’s otherwise crisp white shirt, and one healing on his face. He smirked as he reminded himself to tell Jjong about how well placed his blows were later. He glanced over his shoulder at the Lychan, who was snarling, but maintained the distance that Minho had established, like a silent perimeter.
Siwon dabbed at his face, the wound starting to heal even before he placed the handkerchief back in the breast pocket of his trench. Glaring at the older vampire, Minho could see that the iris of Siwon’s injured eye was white as the driven snow where Minho’s blade had pierced it years ago. If the fact that he ruled over at least three of the largest vampire territories in the region wasn’t enough to respect him, his scarred visage usually did the trick.
“You’ll pay for that.” Siwon said quietly as he dusted himself off. For a moment Minho wasn’t sure who Siwon was referring to.
Jonghyun answered with a growl of warning. Sparing another glance at Siwon’s good eye, suddenly things began making sense. The normally dark brown orb were rimmed with blue and the old vamp’s breathing was irregular.
“You took the serum didn’t you? So I couldn’t sense it was you?”
Siwon grinned sheepishly in response. The serum was an old vampire elixir laced with garlic to throw others off of a vampire’s scent. But many vampires, like Siwon had a bit of an allergic reaction, which is where the false legend of humans’ successfully using garlic for protection had begun.
“What do you want? Why are you here?” Minho said, never taking his eyes or his newly acquired weapons off of Siwon. He smirked as he found his sunglasses on the ground and stooped to pick them up, seemingly unfazed by the fact that Minho had two weapons trained on him the whole time.
“Siwon, you have 5 minutes. Start talking.” Minho said exasperated.
Siwon’s short black hair glistened with sweat in the moonlight, his jaw set like stone as he took in the wayward vampire before him.
“It’s time for you to stop all this foolishness and come home Minho.”
Siwon didn’t spare him a glance as he took out his handkerchief again, dabbing his forhead gently with it before wiping off his sunglasses. He realized too late that he’s lost one of his favorite cufflinks in the tussle and his eyes scan the ground for the diamond relic.
Minho holstered his master’s gun in the back waistband of his trousers under his jacket, still holding onto the elite guard’s weapon.
“I am home.”
“No son. Your true home. Back at the coven, where you belong, with your family.”
Minho lost control for a second, unsheathing his fangs and quickly stepping into Siwon’s space, who returned the gesture in kind.
“You’re not my father! I no longer believe in the coven that killed the only family I ever had.” Minho hissed. Eyes changing from dark brown to silver as he pointed the gun under Siwon’s chin.
Siwon’s hiss morphed into laughter as he glanced down at the gun and up at Minho’s angry face, clearly unaffected by it, or Minho’s incisors' sudden appearance.
“Oh, but son, the coven believes in you.
“Did the coven also believe in you killing my MAKER! You ruined my life! YOU made me an orphan again!” Minho yelled, his voice echoing down the alley. Regaining control of his emotions Minho moved away from Siwon dejected.
“Kyuhyun was supposed to be your friend, even I looked up to you. How could you kill one of your own?” Minho said quietly.
Siwon moved to answer, but Minho just waved the gun at him.
“Forget it. There’s no excuse you can give, there’s nothing you can say or do to make me go back there. Erase my name from The Book, because as far as anyone is concerned, the night Kyu died, I died with him.”
Minho turned on his heel and walked away.
Siwon looked at Minho’s back shaking his head as the other vampire retreated down the alley.
“It was all for you Minho. It always has been.”

A/N: So sorry for the late update guys. RL has been kicking my ass. A BIG thank you to
stjoan4eva , who helped Beta the hell out this thing and helped me re-structure the story a bit. So yeah Siwon is a big bad Vampire leader, and killed Minho's maker Kyuhyun. There's more to that story that will be revealed later. Joon (MBLAQ) was the vampire Clancy that Jjong was fighting, and Kangin (SuJu) was the Clancy that was assisting Siwon.
I kind of look at Jonghyun's werewolf abilites a little bit like spirit posession, where someone looks like they faint or lose control of their body for a few moments before another entity takes over. I made up "Clancy" it'as an old Irish surname that means "red warrior". (I know, I'm random). Thanks for reading! Comments are love...
This is how I picture Jonghyun in Lychan form:
This is Siwon's pearl handle revolver:
