What am I doing?

Minho had been asking himself that same question for the better part of two hours as he sat in his car in the University Library parking lot waiting for Jinki to come out. He didn’t usually take this long at the library, but tonight he must have been doing some extra work for his thesis. Minho suspected he would make an appearance soon, since the lot was halfway between the library and an internet café. The only place that sold food at this hour.

Minho knew Jinki would be hungry.

As if the universe heard his thoughts, Minho saw an auburn tuft of hair bouncing along in the distance, obscuring a head that was bowed, and shoulders bowed even lower from the weight of books and the grad student’s ever-present laptop. Minho quickly put the car in gear, spun around the corner and pulled into a lucky parking space right in front of the café even before Jinki could raise his head and cross the street.

As Minho waited for his coffee order he made his way to the back, logging onto one of the unused computers. Ever since the night that they met, Minho couldn’t get Jinki off of his mind. How just thinking about his touch sent shivers up his spine. It was a mystery, a challenge, and Minho never backed down from a challenge. Who was this mysterious man who had taken over his subconscious since the night they met two weeks ago?

So here he was, sitting in an internet café, for all intents and purposes stalking a human that he had absolutely no desire to kill.

He wanted to know why.

He wondered for a moment if the other man would see him from the seat he had chosen against the far wall, or whether or not he wanted him to. While he debated the situation inwardly, his name was called. As Minho was reaching for the warm beverage, soft, thick fingers curled around his wrist.

“Hey Minho!”

Minho’s hand felt like it had been plunged into hot water after being exposed to a cold winter wind without gloves. Prickly heat made its way up his whole arm to his shoulder, across the back of his neck and down his spine.

He shivered and jerked away from Jinki’s grasp.

“Whoops! Sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.”

“N-no it’s not that. I’m fine.”

Jinki looked at Minho curiously, as if he didn’t believe the taller man and the truth was written somewhere on his face.

“Um…it’s Jinki right?”

Jinki smiled so wide, Minho lost sight of the man’s irises altogether.

“You remembered.’ He said thoughtfully. “So how’s it going?”

“Ok I guess.”

“Sorry about your job.”

“Pardon?”

Jinki leaned in and lowered his voice. His scent was so intoxicating that Minho had to fight to keep control. He was gripping the edge of the counter so hard, he felt the edges molding to the shape of his fingertips.

“Well, I heard your shop got closed down after they found that dead girl there, so I figured you lost your job after that….”

Minho could barely hear what Jinki was saying over the rush of sound in his ears. Jinki’s scent was like the sweetness of warm apple tarts and cool afternoons mixed with the intoxicating musk left in a room with shut windows after hours of sex. All Minho wanted to do in that moment was wrap himself around Jinki’s warm body and never let go.

“Minho?”

“Huh? Oh…um…yes. Well, I’ve been looking for work ever since, we’ll see.”

Jinki nodded and then reached for his favorite large frozen caffeinated drink as the server set it on the counter in front of them. Minho took a sip of his latte, trying to think of something else to say. He pretended that he wasn’t staring holes into the side of Jinki’s face for a few seconds before Jinki glanced back at him meeting his gaze. Color inked his plump cheeks quickly and Minho swallowed hard to fight back a whimper. Embarassed, Jinki took a long, slow drag of his drink as if the caffeine was revealing the meaning of life itself. Minho watched Jinki’s Adam’s apple bob up and down and noted the calm pulse of his jugular as he swallowed. At this point, Minho was biting the inside of his cheek, distracting himself with the pain in order to keep his fangs sheathed and not give himself away.

Oh my God. I want him so badly. Minho thought desperately.

“What?”

“What?” Minho looked around startled.

“Did you just say something?” Jinki said confused, looking a bit scared. Minho actually felt Jinki’s pulse quicken as he stared at him in shock.

“N-No. I was just standing here, waiting for you to say something. Why? What did you think I said?”

“ I could of sworn you just said you wanted…”

Holy shit. He heard that?

Jinki looked like a deer caught in headlights as he retreated a step.

“Um…I’m just gonna leave you to it then. Um enjoy your coffee, bye Minho!”

And with that Jinki practically ran out of the café, leaving a very confused and turned on Minho in his wake. Jinki was a block and a half away before he slowed down, staring at his hands which were shaking uncontrollably.

“God. Not again. Why now?”

Jinki looked to the sky praying to any deity that would listen before he squeezed his eyes shut and took a deep breath. Taking another sip of his drink he started to walk home.

The long way.

Jinki was surprised as he stepped off the elevator and into the hallway to see Taemin’s all black seated form, leaned up against the apartment door. His ever-present backpack pushed under his long legs pulled to his chest by gangly arms, a cheek pressed to his knobby knees.

He was fast asleep.

Jinki bent down to gently shake his cousin awake and was even more surprised when one small hand gripped his wrist firmly, and he was met with flared nostrils and an angry glare.

“T-Taemin? It’s me…what…?”

In an instant, Taemin’s face softened into a beautiful soft smile, puffy cheeks, (a family trait), and sparkling eyes staring straight into Jinki’s frightened ones.

“Oh hey hyung!”

“What are you doing here? I thought you weren’t coming back until tomorrow?”

“I actually had to come back early for another assignment, but I thought I’d surprise you.” He shrugged.

Taemin slowly moved his grip from Jinki’s wrist to his hand and squeezed it as he spoke. He grinned and maintained eye contact to distract Jinki as he used his left hand to slip the long silver blade back into it’s sheath on his belt at the base of his spine.

“You lost your keys again didn’t you?” Jinki said shaking his head.

Taemin shrugged again and leaned to the side so that JInki could open the door.

“I swear to God I’m going to staple them to you Taemin.”

Taemin giggled as he grabbed his pack and followed his older cousin inside the apartment.

Minho needed to think.

So he parked the Impala a few blocks away from Key’s pub, aptly (or obnoxiously) named “Keys” and was walking along slowly, lost in thought. As he rounded the corner into the long alley towards the entrance, he caught a familiar scent. A split-second later, he barely had time to react before someone literally pounced on him.

“Get the hell off me Jjong.”

“How’d you know it was me?” Jonghyun spoke right into his ear.

The smaller man’s arms and legs are wrapped around him from behind. Arms crossed at his shoulders and ankles crossed at Minho’s waist. Minho never stopped walking, and never took his hands out of his pockets, as if wearing your best friend like a coat was something he did all the time.

“I can smell you a mile away Jjong.”

“Yeah right.” Jonghyun snorted as Minho smirked and glanced over his shoulder which he shook a bit to rid himself of his newly acquired accessory.

“I mean it Jjong, get the fuck off.”

“Nuh-uh. Not until you tell me where you’ve been.”

“Out.”

“Out where?”

“Outside.”

“Stop being an ass. You haven’t been to the apartment in days, and I …”

Jonghyun yelped as Minho quickly dropped to a crouch on one knee, one arm on Jonghyun’s shoulder as he ripped him off his back and flung him down the alley like a rag doll. Jonghyun twisted himself mid-air and landed on two feet and one hand, skidding back a few inches, the other arm waving in the air a bit as he caught his balance in front of the bar’s entrance.

“Well fuck you then. I just wanted to make sure you were alright.”

Minho casually walked over to his angry roommate straightening out his jacket dramatically as if Jonghyun left him irreparably rumpled.

“I’m fine.”

“Well that’s good. Do me a favor, the next time you wanna disappear for a week and a half, let a guy know ok?”

“Ok.”

“And quit throwing me. It’s aggravating.” Jonghyun said quietly, picking gravel from the already healing cuts in his hand.

“Quit jumping on my back and I won’t have to.”

Jonghyun glared at Minho.

“What’s it smell like?”

“What?”

“Me? You said you could smell me.”

“Oh.” Minho cocked his head and stroked his chin with long fingers, trying to find a way to make as tactful a description as possible.

“Wolves give off an unmistakable aroma. It’s…well…strong.”

“Got that. What does strong smell like?”

“You don’t want to know.”

“Yes I do.”

“No you don’t.”

Jonghyun growled. Visibly irritated.

“I wouldn’t have asked the question if…”

“Dog shit.”

It’s Jonghyun’s turn to cock his head to the side incredulously.

“Shut the hell up!”

“I told you you didn’t wanna know.” Minho said with a smirk, pulling open the door to the bar.

“I swear sometimes you say shit like that just to rile me up.”

Minho held the door open for Jjong, and when he wasn’t looking Jonghyun sniffed under both armpits nervously, then scowled and shook his head.
