[Kisame can feel the shudder running through her as Valeria links their hands together more securely; that he brings his other hand up to curl warmly over hers is only instinct, born from too much closeness, too much emotional disarray, too many lies that he so desperately wants to believe, even if he wants to back away from them and the poison-bitter aftertaste their absence leaves in his mouth. (It was all a lie. But she wasn't.)]

[There's a sick lurch to his stomach, because Itachi is leaving, and Valeria is staying, and.... or rather, they both want to leave and stay. And he doesn't fucking know what to do, because he can't be in two places at once, he can't, and he's a big person, but not big enough to reach out and hold Itachi there. He's neglected Itachi enough through his idiocy with this, he doesn't want to make his partner feel unwanted. But Valeria.... But should she really....?]

[He couldn't just abandon her like this, on a strange world with no friends, no family, no colleagues, no--it would be like cutting Itachi's ( ... )

[She wants to stay?

Kisame wants her to stay?

Itachi stops in his exit at her admission and Kisame's response. His body is weak and it tires him to remain standing--even with the support of the sturdy house against his hand--but he tries to ignore his own failings and focus on what is transpiring in the yard. Valeria wants to stay. Kisame wants to let her.

She tried to strike me just for slighting him.Kisame cares for this woman. Whether his feelings are caused by the lies implanted inside them both, or if he has...developed more for her over the course of their relationship... Kisame feels something for this woman ( ... )

[ Valeria can't help but smile when Kisame says that word. (Home.) She likes the sound of that, how he says it when he does. She always has; he doesn't strip it of its meaning, twist it about and spit it out as some single, senseless, dry syllable that could mean anything or nothing at all. He knows. (To her, it's so much more than a word, some single, pathetic syllable. It is a place with a person, with the people one truly loves, who truly love you in return; it's those people, that person who becomes your sanctuary. Therein hearts intertwine and the world, for all its turbulence and attempts at rending fragile human hearts apart, cannot touch, cannot trespass. That is a home, and he--knowing what they now know, that theirs was founded on some quaint fabrication courtesy of divine inspiration--would still extend his own? Would use that word, knowing well what it means....)She squeezes his hand, eyes wide and shining with clear, unmasked affection. It's all she can do to keep herself from hugging him on the spot because that word, ( ... )

[Kisame flushes a rather pretty shade of purple--he just can't help it, now that he realizes exactly what he said. That look in her eyes.... how can he not realize it, now? He hadn't meant to say that. Or rather.... well. He had meant it, in his mind, in his heart.... but he hadn't meant to say that. Not when he knew what it meant, not when he was still trying to keep some polite distance between them.... The thought sends not-unpleasant warm chills racing through him, remembering the home they had built together.]

[He hopes Itachi doesn't feel put upon like this. He had meant it when he tried to include Itachi in the choice--they were partners, and for now, this home was both of theirs. If Itachi didn't want her to stay with them, then he would have been glad to help set her up in a house--even one right next door, if she had wanted. Itachi shouldn't have to feel slighted, or left ou, or intruded on, or.... well, anything. Not while he's staying here. But if he really does think it's okay....]

[A sheepish smile at Valeria's urging ( ... )

[The arm that wraps around his shoulders, steadying--a crutch--cause Itachi to tense, but he knows Kisame is only trying to help, only trying to be there for him because Itachi so obviously cannot take care of himself.

It stings, but it is a truth Itachi has accepted by now.]

It's all right, Kisame. I'm fine with the ropes you've set up.

[But he's not. He's weak and tired, and it had taken a bit of discussion this morning just for Kisame to allow him outdoors when he's still so fatigued that he rarely stays awake longer than a few hours at a time.

That doesn't mean he had to like being a burden.]

Tea sounds very nice.
