-----------------------------------------------
[Itachi is sitting on the porch of Kisame's home, doing his best to keep out of whatever troublesome situation he may put himself in should he move.
The last couple of days have not been easy for him...but he has not--will not--complain. He has done this to himself, blocked out the light, and sent his world into the darkness that he had once thought he was so ready to face, and then believed he had managed to escape.
But he had just lulled himself into a false sense of security, had set himself up for a greater fall.
And Kisame... Kisame has done nothing but stay by his side, support him, care for him. Itachi is not sure what he had ever done to deserve a partner who would looked after him when he pushed himself to this state twice. There is no debilitating illness--no coughing of blood or stolen breaths that feel as if his chest will constrict from the lack of air--but Kisame has done everything he can to help Itachi.
Kisame saved him. Brought Itachi to his home, sheltered him, bandaged his wounds, provided everything for him.
Itachi almost wants to wander away from this place and let the wild have him, if only so he can stop being a burden on his too-giving partner. But Kisame would only worry, search for him, and bring him back and lecture at him for his recklessness.
Kisame is far more than Itachi will ever deserve.
The breeze is nice, but there is a lack of warmth, so Itachi assumes that the sun is not out...blocked by clouds. He doesn't know for sure. Never--even when he had been losing his sight before and there were days when he couldn't leave their hotel rooms because he couldn't see enough in front of himself to maneuver himself around their location--had Itachi lost all of his sight. He had still be able to see shapes...light, darkness, shades.
But now there is only darkness. Black. Empty.
And it's so quiet. He can't even hear Kisame moving around inside the house.
He wonders if this is what the dead feel after they are too far gone to take in the world around them.]
