[Kisame had been quite peaceably folding laundry in the living room this afternoon, sitting on a bench beside the basket and neatly separating the clothing into two piles. He himself doesn't care too much about these things, but having someone else to tend to does seem to make him surprisingly domestic.... And with more than one person to concern himself about, it's just easier this way, to try and stay organized and on top of things. It frees him up for other business when he can take care of such basic matters quickly....]

[And he does like to be free. Itachi needs to be watched, after all. Not all the time, certainly, but he's still blind, and still very weak--Kisame just likes to be there as much as he can. It makes him worry less, makes him feel safer--his partner's health is nearly his own, and trying to make sure that Itachi is happy (or at least, as happy as he can be) and not wanting for anything makes him content.]

[Kisame worries often. So when a flash of metal passing the window catches his eye, and a shout reaches his ( ... )

[ What relief washes over Valeria when Itachi speaks her name is confused, transient. Despite what she knows of him (and how little she does ultimately know of him, for Itachi has always behaved as an enigmatic man, more often than not leaving people to wonder whene'er they don't know), however familiar he may seem, this man is a stranger and this is their first honest meeting. Spring-loaded muscles cling of their own accord to the previously summoned tension rather than relax. Although they waiver, they continue to wait for some solid, conscious command. ('Do we move to fly, fight, or stand?')

She stands, straightens wordlessly, and commences the process of putting her thoughts, her emotions into their proper places, but she can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. Not just with her, but with Itachi, too, with his eyes... he had been straining them, hadn't he? After he threw that kunai... she watches him close them now. He seems to be relaxing them, almost as though --

Why are you here?Valeria pauses, lips parted just ( ... )

[Kisame's heart wrenches at the sight, dropping into the pit of his stomach, and he can almost immediately feel the guilt washing over him; she's hurt. Valeria is hurting because of him, because of how ridiculous he is, because of him acting as though she's something she isn't.... He'd never wanted to hurt her. Never. He can smell it, almost taste it, the adrenaline and fear and tension and pain.... She's turning to leave, saying something--he hardly hears what, for being absorbed in the sound of her voice, its tone and the way it's cracking. (No, no, no--don't. Don't leave, don't leave me again, please....)]

Hey--hey, wait! [Kisame isn't sure when he decided to stop her, or even when he moved--all he knows is that he's suddenly moving, then there, far too fast. Far too fast, in the time it had taken him to realize that this might be a bad idea. But there it is, and there he is, and there she is--and he's reacting too suddenly to even approve of his own actions, his shinobi-honed reflexes far faster than his own rational thought, ( ... )

[Itachi is confused.

He can't see what's going on, but he can hear the awkwardness and distress in Valeria's voice and the could hear the sound of her footsteps starting to move away.

She's leaving so quickly?

No, Kisame's calling out to her, going after her--the hand is no longer touching his shoulder, and Itachi is glad but he had almost been too on edge to even notice Kisame touching him there--louder, heavier footsteps hurrying down the across the porch and into the yard.

He still cares about her.

Itachi can remember the complete adoration and affection that he had seen in Kisame's eyes whenever he had looked at this woman, and the edge of possessive protectiveness that she'd had in hers--when truly what could she have done to Itachi?--knowing that she had been so ready to strike against anyone who disrespected Kisame was enough then, could be enough now.

It's not real.Their feelings are false, forced on them by vindictive gods. Valeria was not a part of their world, nor the conflict they had carried with them from it. She ( ... )

[ When Valeria's feet find the ground again, they do not depart from it, not immediately. A word would have been enough. Three, though... three words and she's taken aback, turning her head too quickly to look to Kisame, except that he's there, standing almost directly behind her now. (How did he...? When...?) Her eyes widen, lips parting ever so slightly as she feels his hand seize hers so quickly, so gently despite the urgency she only just heard in his voice. She hadn't been expecting that--any of it really. Hadn't expected him to move, to reach out, to--to say her name, no “san” attached, and look at her that way, and say the things he says. He's flustered, so flustered, and all she wants to do is turn and fall back into him.... and when he says that word, she can't help but shudder involuntarily.

Go? She doesn't want to go. Gods, why would she ever? Her fingers twist of their own accord, fit themselves in his, and she grips them tightly, securely; it's all she can do to keep herself anchored as she struggles with herself, what ( ... )
