Kibum had texted him earlier in the day to tell him that his usual club meeting had been cancelled and to ask if he had any plans that night. Jonghyun had grinned upon reading his message, thinking he must have done something downright incredible in a past life for this day to be unravelling so perfectly. Wide smile still in place, he’d texted Kibum back asking to simply meet him at the dorm after his classes.
The wait had been long; he was just about bursting at the seams with glee by the time he barged into their room. Kibum glanced up from his computer upon hearing the door bang against the wall, jumping a little at the sudden noise. He looked at Jonghyun in confusion, eyebrows shooting up beneath his fringe as he took in Jonghyun’s almost absurd grin.
“H-hey?” he greeted tentatively, looking like he was apprehending Jonghyun’s next move. Jonghyun would have probably thought it was hilarious if he hadn’t been busy mulling over his next words in his head.
He sauntered up to Kibum, who had stopped typing to instead stare at Jonghyun, before grabbing him by his wrists and pulling him out of his chair to face him at eye-level (or almost).
“I lost the contest,” he spoke solemnly, and yet his smile wouldn’t leave his face.
Kibum looked even more confused. “I’m so sorry?” he ventured, frozen under Jonghyun’s grip, the definition of perplexed. “And yet you seem awfully happy about that?”
“Because the company wants to buy my lyrics!” he exclaimed, finally letting out what he’d been meaning to shout out from rooftops since he’d gotten the news. “Like, actually buy them! For themselves!” he went on, gaining in volume and slightly shaking Kibum.
Kibum seemed a bit bewildered for a moment, but it all soon caught up to him and he was left grinning back at Jonghyun, mirroring his smile.
“That’s amazing, Jjong,” he praised softly, finally relaxing beneath Jonghyun’s hands, his own moving up around the shorter boy’s neck to embrace him. He pulled back to kiss him swiftly on the lips. “What did you tell them?”
“I haven’t replied yet,” Jonghyun was quick to answer, excitement still lacing his tone as his hands restlessly travelled over Kibum’s sides. “I was kind of counting on talking to my personal manager first.”
Kibum frowned, leaning back a little to look at Jonghyun. “You have a manager?” he spoke, unsure.
“Yeah,” Jonghyun said simply, shrugging his shoulders as though it were obvious. Kibum kept frowning, but raised an eyebrow when Jonghyun’s grin turned cocky.
“Since when?” Kibum asked, suspicion rising.
“Since now.” Jonghyun’s hands finally stopped their fidgeting, linking together in the small of Kibum’s back to pull him closer again. “Well, given that he agrees, of course.”
“What?” Kibum uttered, and Jonghyun thought it was almost cute, how clueless he was.
“You, idiot.” Jonghyun shook his head, amused by the mix of emotions he saw fluttering across Kibum’s features at the revelation. “That’s your major, isn’t it?”
“Oh… I’m - well - I mean, that’s kind of… kinky.” His cheeks were slightly tinged with pink, causing Jonghyun to chuckle as he leaned in to kiss him again.
“Clearly, I’m going to need a personal manager considering I’m on my way to commercial success.”
Kibum rolled his eyes, but his blush didn’t fade (which Jonghyun rather liked, anyway, because a shy Kibum was endearing). “Alright then,” he played along, tugging Jonghyun to sit down on the bed, “let’s talk business. Although you should know my advice doesn’t come free.”
“Name your price.”
“I demand a coffee date. And a blowjob,” Kibum spoke with a perfect poker face.
Jonghyun laughed before slowly dragging a hand up Kibum’s thigh. “Whatever you want.”
Kibum merely slapped his hand away, ever so serious as he proclaimed, “No sexual coercion during the meeting.”
“Understood, boss,” Jonghyun retorted, tongue-in-cheek. “I’ll leave that for after.”
A faraway look took over Kibum’s expression for a split second before he snapped back to the present. “Although, you are free to call me boss during the blowjob.”
Jonghyun chuckled again, pushing Kibum back on the bed and leaning over to share a long kiss. Kibum hummed into it, apparently forgetting himself for a few seconds before pushing at his shoulders. Jonghyun reluctantly broke their kiss to lie down beside him on his side, facing each other.
“What did you want to talk about?” Kibum asked curiously, fingers combing through his bangs as he fixed his hair.
“Well, they offered me a certain amount but when I told my professor about it, he suggested that I might be able to ask for a certain percentage of the profits it made instead.”
“I see,” Kibum nodded to himself, lips pursed in thought. “Did they say anything about what they were planning to do with your song, though?”
“No.” Jonghyun shook his head slightly, hair falling into his eyes.
“Hm, well a lot of these companies buy songs all the time as a reserve, kind of, so they don’t necessarily get recorded or worked on.”
“I know, so you agree that I should just take the money?”
“Yeah, doesn’t make it any less amazing,” Kibum was quick to add. “Congratulations.” He brushed a strand of hair away from Jonghyun’s eyes, smiling softly. “How much did they offer, anyway?”
“A few thousand bucks,” Jonghyun answered, unable to contain his smirk. Kibum’s eyes went wide; he suddenly looked a bit dazed.
“A few as in…?”
“Eight,” Jonghyun told him proudly, his chest slightly puffed out.
“Oh my god,” Kibum muttered, although it came out more as a whimper, high-pitched and all. “I love you,” he babbled, cradling Jonghyun’s face to look into his eyes.
“I didn’t know you were after me for my money, Kibum,” Jonghyun joked, playfully touching his nose to Kibum’s. It seemed to break him out of his trance, because his eyes suddenly took on a familiar mischievous glint.
“Of course I’m not after money,” Kibum scoffed. “My boyfriend is an aspiring musician-slash-lyricist,” he said pointedly, and Jonghyun’s chest deflated at once.
“Stereotypes hurt, you know,” he replied, drawing back.
“I’m kidding,” Kibum repented quickly, moving to crawl over him. “You’re amazing, god I love you so much,” he spoke to Jonghyun’s lips before claiming them in a hard kiss and, well, Jonghyun did have a payment to get started on.
