Texas History FAIL

Chuck Norris, I love you.  I do.  I had a friend who was cast as an extra on your epic show, and he had only good things to say.  Also, your house (well, one of your many houses in Dallas), was surprisingly normal, and located a few blocks from mine.  I used to jog past it in the summer.  And I still remember the year you gave out autographs for ( Read more... )

I mean...I get Conservatism. I do. Kay Bailey Hutchison has been kicking ass and taking names in D.C. for quite some time now. And Ron Paul is a loon, but he walks the walk, and I respect that.

But people should not toss around Secession like it's a quaint, charming, folksy idea. It just pisses me right the fuck off.

You're my walking encyclopedia of Texas weirdness. I learn so much coming 'round your parts. Me loves you lots.

Glad to be of service, ma'am. Glad to be of service.

PS: He really did give out autographs for Halloween one year. I couldn't make that shit up.

Secession. Huh. That's not something to toss around lightly, given the death and destruction associated with the idea.

I mean, I understand being angry about current fiscal policy, and I think there's something to be said for interpreting the union as a voluntary compact between states. But the last time anybody tried to secede from our happy little union, more Americans died than in any other war in U.S. history. Quoting the Founders and Sam Houston like it's all lofty and idealistic doesn't make the implications any prettier.

I saw you mentioned dear Dr. Paul, too. :) Lawd, do I admire that guy, even when he's talking about abolishing the Fed and the income tax. Y'all breed 'em ballsy in Texas.

ETA: July, I'ma echo other folks in saying that you are a delightful commentator on Texan uniqueness. Yup yup. :D

Even when we did it from Mexico! Remember the Alamo? YOU remember the Alamo, Chuck. Jeez. And a big WORD on Ron Paul.

And I'm delighted to be of assistance, random knowledge wise.

Duuuude. Lookit yer shiny new layout thing. *whistle* Snazzy. Very snazzy, lady.

Perhaps this is entirely inappropriate, but I always kind of head-tilt when I hear the phrase, "Remember the Alamo!" Because, erm, I do remember seeing the Alamo for the first time, and thinking it was kinda on the small side. Plus that stupid Davy Crockett song wouldn't come unstuck from my head. *wince*

"It's the pictures that got small!"

*ahem* I mean, of course the Alamo looks small now. Everything in Texas used to be flat, though. So back when everything was flat and made of mud, I'm sure it looked a lot more impressive. And the guns probably helped. *nods*

Glad you like the layout. I found myself totally unable to be productive school-wise, so...this is what I've got.
