Texas History FAIL

Chuck Norris, I love you.  I do.  I had a friend who was cast as an extra on your epic show, and he had only good things to say.  Also, your house (well, one of your many houses in Dallas), was surprisingly normal, and located a few blocks from mine.  I used to jog past it in the summer.  And I still remember the year you gave out autographs for Halloween.  Classic.  A true populist, you are.

But this?  This is a little nuts, my friend.

As a devotee of history, I appreciate your callback to the good ol' Republic.  But I would like to remind you that one of the most pressing reasons that we joined The U.S. of A. was the crushing debt amassed by Texas the Country.  One of the conditions of our annexation was that The Union would pay that off.  Just sayin'.  I'd also like to remind you that the last time Mexico underwent serious social upheaval, Texas benefited big time.  Lots of the intellegentsia immigrated, and we reaped the fruits of their labor with the roots of the Chicano movement.  La Raza, Crystal City, Felix Longoria, LULAC, Hector Garcia, etc.  Plus, you know, the Americans serving on the border now are federal employees.  Something to keep in mind.

And lastly, YOU MISSED THE PART ABOUT THE CONFEDERACY, JACKASS.   After we seceded?  We didn't see any major battles, but we still got screwed.  You know why?  Because the Secessionists rode around terrorizing Anti-Secessionists like the immigrants from Germany, or the settles from the Ohio River Valley.  In fact, along the Nueces River, they cut massacred a group of German-Texan citizens (women and children included) trying to LEAVE Texas so they could be abolitionists somewhere else.  Fact: after Reconstruction, there were a series of revenge murders that no one ever investigated too carefully.  As for your allegations about corruption, I refer you to Ma and Pa Ferguson.  You might find some good material there.  Or, hell, look at the DISD for the last twenty years or so.  Watch where you point that finger, buddy.

We tried seceding one time.  You know what happened?  Sam Houston rode around the state BEGGING PEOPLE ON HIS KNEES not to secede.  Yes, the same Sam Houston who beat the Mexicans at San Jacinto, who was our President twice.  So watch your mouth when you quote him.  He was the biggest supporter The Union had in Texas.  And he would not appreciate this bullshit.

The eyes of Texas are upon you, Chuck.  And if you keep misappropriating Texas History, you're going to end up like this guy.  Which is to say, a douchebag in the annals of history.

rant, texas, politics
