Vile movie, take two:

ORPHAN: My readers quietly passed along some information on this still-yet-to-open movie that I trashed earlier…and a little more information on a personal note.

Susan talked to Mere, and she got the impression from Meredith that the sheer scariness of the poster got to Mere more than anything else.

Arthur passed along this article from the Daily Read more... )

You are talking about a movie that has no business existing. I, too, am horrified (and does my horror count for more, less, or about the same because I have not been in the adoption situation on either side?) and I hope they go bankrupt.

Horror is horror. You don't have to have anything directly to do with adoption to recognize that.

Oh, the producers probably won't take a serious hit, but you can damn well bet that some flunky of the senior executive who okayed it will be looking for work in another couple of weeks. It's the old Hollywood song and dance: if it turns out to be a success, then everyone's going to fight to take credit. However, if it bombs, nobody in a position of power will admit to having anything to do with it, and everyone will try to find someone on the way out to pin it to ( ... )

Yeah, I know - the old HSX stuff about 'if it doesn't do squat in the first week or so, it's dead' rule is annoying, but it largely fits modern cinema business setups.

Hey, even a blind pig can find an acorn now and then. The new setup is a pain for good films that need time to find their audiences, but it works really well for killing monstrous films like this.

If WB has the sense $DEITY gave a frozen turnip, they'll gulp hard, swallow the cost of the film, and quietly pull it.

If they had that much sense, they wouldn't greenlight half or better of the things that they do produce.

They won't, because someone In Power had to have approved it. Either this individual is just starting, in which case everyone's waiting for it to hang him/her, or that person is already halfway out the door. In the latter case, it's being released (a) because the new suits don't have anything to replace it with, (b) the new suits can blame the old guy if it craters. It's the oldest story in the movie industry.

Let me repeat: Orphan is awful. I will say it again and again.

*growl* I believe in karma. It will bomb hard.
