An Anniversary Thing
Peter insisted that they spend their first anniversary in Kendal-he wanted to spend the time, with Rose, in the place where everything had started. Rose had laughed, at first, asking why they couldn’t simply spend it in London, but had relented upon seeing that he was both serious and not a little stung by how cavalierly she’d

Upon re-reading, I'm very curious to know more about Annie in the future. Again, real life resonates: my husband has a couple of very close female friends and while I've never felt insecure about them, I can understand why Rose might.

Thank you. Poor Peter suffers from an affliction also shared by several of my friends, and it struck me that Rose would love the train mostly because it reminded her of her home universe.

Annie really pops up in the forthcoming sequel. Which isn't meant as a tease, but rather a promise that you'll learn quite a bit more about her.

Random question: does Peter also have issues with travelling backwards and/or amusement-park-type rides?

I'm surprised Rose wouldn't realize Peter would be truly sentimental, especially for Kendal.
He still didn’t quite understand the allure of travelling by train
He really just doesn't care too much for travelling in general, does he?
At least, he reflected, he actually had friends to visit in Kendal.
Aww. Has he made any new friends in London yet? I could see him having difficulty with that.
it was a far cry from the debacle of their first meeting
Ooo, I want to know more!
“But...I…I didn’t get you anything.”
“I’ve got you.”
Very sweet.
I don't really get why he brought her up to the warehouse. Perhaps I'm a bit thick this morning...

She hadn't expected him to want to go anywhere for their anniversary, I think. They're really homebodies (when they're both home), so...yeah. I think, though, she'd have been less surprised if he'd suggested Croy.

I'd not really thought about it, honestly--but reading your comment, you're spot-on. Peter's happy when he's home, in a comfortable place filled with his books and his things and happy memories.
Has he made any new friends in London yet?
Not many, no. He's been dragged out to TW happy hours with Rose, Mickey, Jake and James; and he's got his partner at the Met. Beyond that, though...not so much.
Ooo, I want to know more!
And you shall.
I don't really get why he brought her up to the warehouse.
It's where he first kissed her.

I’m actually a little surprised at Rose’s reaction. After a year, you’d think she’d have realized what a sentimental mush Peter is when it comes to their relationship. Although, maybe she had been making some plans of her own based around London?
He still didn’t quite understand the allure of travelling by train-and truth be told, staring out the window tended to make him sick-but Rose adored it and so he had humoured her.Have to agree with Rose on this one, travelling by train can be quite relaxing and a perfect way to decompress going into a weekend away. Especially for Rose, who may be imagining ( ... )

I'm so glad you enjoyed this! I literally dashed it off Saturday night in Japan, when I realized that I didn't have a thing to post on Monday. I'd wanted to write the anniversary fic for a while, et voila!
I’m actually a little surprised at Rose’s reaction ... maybe she had been making some plans of her own based around London?
Her reaction, I think, was "Oh, Peter! We could spend the weekend here, together, and never leave the flat!" It's not a disparaging comment, but one that's a bit obtuse. Silly Rose--she absolutely should have realized Peter would want to go to Kendal--but I think she'd planned a weekend hunkered down in the flat doing nothing but playing scrabble!
So did she earn the right to be the keeper of the key because of her fantastic coffee making skills, her staunch refusal to give any information to the press about Peter, or because she and her tea group ( ... )

Seriously? Well, then I bow to you because the pacing of this is perfect. Even though it is not one of your longest, the amount of action and storytelling that takes place and is so clearly conveyed with is just amazing considering the brevity of the story itself. I hope that makes sense.
...but I think she'd planned a weekend hunkered down in the flat doing nothing but playing scrabble!
Ah, scrabble. Peter and Rose and board games... *mind drifts to happy place*
I imagine Louise offered a sympathetic ear for poor Peter after Blackpool--not about what he did, but about what happened to Natalie.
I love Louise, she's already married so Peter was off limits there, but nothing was going to stop her from stepping in as a surrogate mother. Peter is just one of those men that women want to take care of, no matter that snarky outer shell, he's really just a great big woobie.

It does. And thank you.
Peter and Rose and board games...
They do enjoy them, don't they? *g*
no matter that snarky outer shell, he's really just a great big woobie.
Yes! *sigh* He's such a sweetheart.

“Wee, sleekit, cow’ring, timorous beastie...” He leaned towards her, the words almost a whisper. … If he thought they could get away with it, he would have made love to her in that field.
Favourite moment recreation #2. At least it wasn’t raining this time round. Although I always thought a return to this site would involve some form of car sex, I’m glad they waited until they got back to the house. Don’t need Farmer Brown pulling up on his tractor to investigate the car on his property and ruining a perfectly romantic moment.
The duvet was blue, the furniture was a blonde wood-but there was still a power to making love to Rose in that room, based on that first night together with her.
Favourite moment recreation (recollection) #4. The bed and bedding may be different, but it’s the emotions and memories behind it that make that moment special.
He made sure the towel was tucked securely around his hips ( ... )

I always envisioned it ending with the two of them having sex on a picnic blanket out in the field ;) I have this theory that Rose, eventually, buys that parcel of land. :)

Is there a #3 that I could work into a future fic? ;)

Exactly!
No real comment, just why?
He doesn't want the gift-giving to be interrupted by Rose molesting his naked form ;)
Do we know that that is? Is it the copy of Burns he had on his night table that Rose saw when she slept over the second time?
You got it in one ;) It's not just the copy Rose saw--it's also the copy he read to her the night he finally told her he loved her.
I really like the fact that it is on their anniversary that each finally reveals when it was that they realized they were in love.Aw--thank you! It just struck me as such a ( ... )

And, to Lucy's utter horror and never ending embarassment, puts up a great big, shiny monument to mark the site where she and Peter first snogged. :^D

*sigh* See, this is why I went to law school instead of getting an MBA. At least I was able to count up to 2 without incident. Honestly, the older I get the dumber I get. Do you know, even when I'm staring directly at a clock (with numbers!) I still have trouble telling time? I think I need to go back to kindergarten, or, at the very least, be allowed to take a nap at 12 every day to recharge my brain.

Again, why? ;^) Peter's priorities have shifted, I'm so disappointed.

Ok, this will be my #3 (slightly out of order) Favourite recreation/recollection. :^P

Peter's priorities have shifted, I'm so disappointed.
They've not shifted at all. Instead of a quick shag pre-dinner, Peter is looking forward to a long, slow, sensual bout of love-making with the woman he loves.
another attorney quit today! Just when things were starting to get better.
Based on what I've heard from you and EGT, law firms sound like the most miserable places on this planet.
