... in San Francisco

Nov 28, 2008 23:27

The City by the Bay is no better off than New York or Philadelphia. Brainiac's plan with this city isn't quite so clean-cut as the prior two... Metallo and his army of replicants appear in San Francisco split into two groups, one on the Golden Gate Bridge, and the other on the shore of Alcatraz ( Read more... )

"Die. Die." The Jason Todd replicant repeatedly smashes a prison guard into the bars of a cell, the prisoner himself cowering as the mulched up corpse ends up being forced through the cracks.

Letting go, as there's no longer much left to hold onto, the replicant seeks out new prey.

From high over Alcatraz, a starbolt strikes a replicant.

The replicant is programmed to feel the pain of its underlings. "You two, out there. Take weapons."

Two Flamebird replicants leave the prison and start firing wildly into the sky with prison issue automatic pistols, hoping to hit the Tamarean.

Metallo is on the bridge, yes, smirking with amusement at all these do-gooder replicants causing a mass-murder panic.

Metallo himself, however, is on top of the bridge, tearing off the suspension wires and whipping them off into the city itself, entirely uncaring of where these giant cables might land.

And he's just warming up.

thirty seconds to impact zone...

Hourman takes a deep breath, pacing as the carrier circles above. He takes a moment to offer a few muttered words, and a kiss to the tachyon-filled glass around his neck.

Fifteen seconds to impact zone...

The Golden Gate Bridge is speeding into view as the back hatch opens. Hourman takes a step towards the door, holding a parachute in one hand, and finally flipping it back before diving into the skyline.

He's picking up velocity with each instant, eyes wide open before finally clicking the button on his gauntlet. Newton's law still holds up, as he crashes right into the plated spine of Metallo.

59:55 registers on his glove, as he begins to yank and pull on any soft looking piece he can.

SLAMMMMM!

The impact is tremendous, and it drives Metallo straight down through the bridge spire he's standing on, cracking it deeply. He didn't see it coming.

But this is a guy who takes on Superman. It's going to take a lot more than that. The soft parts vanish immediately as he begins to absorb the very steel of the bridge into his body.

Growing larger by the second, and sending jagged spikes out of his back at his assailant.

Hourman dives out of the way of the spines, grabbing one as a handhold and swinging back and forth from it.

That momentum sends him sailing to Metallo's right arm, before he starts to climb it, digging his fingers into the cables and wire for support.

"Hahahaha!" One of the replicants on the bridge laughs hysterically as Metallo throws cables toward the city. The Huntress replicant rips a door off of a car and proceeds to start strangling the occupant.

Another Flamebird replicant has been sneaking towards Ollie, and silently, she raises a sharpened piece of metal above his head as he lets loose at the Mid-Nite replicant.

And suddenly said pice of metal is pulled backwards by electromagnetic force, courtesy of a hovering Static.

Somehow this replicant got lost. Perhaps it's because something went awry with the programming, or because it wasn't equipped with a weapon, but it doesn't find itself attacking other people. Instead, it just walks down side streets, smiling at shops and houses, reaching out as people run away screaming. It forgets that it already had its face melted off when a Jason Todd replicant set fire to a nearby car.

"Now that's creepy!" Plastic Man says as he beams down to Frisco and gets a face full of Melted Mid-Nite.

"I'm gonna guess you're a part of the Big Bad Battallion, aren't you, Sourpuss?"

"I just want to help people. I want to fix what's wrong inside..." The Mid-Nite replicant somehow looks sad, even without any semblance of a human face. "Why do they run from me?" It staggers forward, reaching out to Plastic Man.

"Because there are about eight million copies of you on a killing rampage without rhyme or reason! Duh!"

An arm snakes around the replicant to keep him from trying anything funny.

And he tries not to feel like he's in a a Romero movie.

Another Huntress replicant, this one on the Golden Gate Bridge, starts to frenzy. Maybe some wiring came loose, or it's something to do with the combat inhibitors taken by Fire, Ice and the Blue Beetle during their Opal City raid, but she begins indiscriminately attacking anything. Cars, people, the road, the bridge, herself.

Perhaps for no other reason than to kill things, the Red Panzer, having escaped from Alcatraz, leaps from the water and onto the Golden Gate Bridge. With a maniacal laugh, he proceeds to blow the Huntress replicant to smithereens with his equipped cannon, and then targets a civilian running away from the carnage.

His cannon fires, bursting outward...

...only to meet a wall of flesh, wrapped in blue, red, and yellow. Eyes the color of a dieing sun burn in the air, as the Man of Steel absorbs the terrible power meant to snuff out an innocent life. "Your powers cannot harm me." Superman chants, ignoring the pain. Yeah, sometimes the invulnerability's an act-but it's an effective one.

"I've already humiliated one neo-nazi idiot tonight, Panzer." Superman booms, slowly hovering towards the villain, never breaking eye contact. "You are keeping me from stopping this insanity. This is pissing me off. Find a hole to crawl under, or I will find one for you and STAPLE you there until I can spare the attention to properly beat you within an inch of your miserable, hate-choked life."

Red Panzer weighs up his options, nods, and packs his cannon back into his armoured suit. And then he turns back around to look at Superman. He throws up the Nazi salute and marches down the Golden Gate Bridge, away from the battle.
